RECSMAS 2019: DAY 19
Day 19: A Book That Made You Cry - HA. So if you know me, you’ll know that it takes very little to make me cry. I probably cried at half the books I read this year, but the one that stuck close to me was Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer. This is a story about Juliet who lost her mom in a car accident, and her way of helping with the grief is writing her mother letters. Declan, who goes to school with Juliet, finds the letters and because he recognized a familiar hurting soul, he writes back. It’s really hard to write about this book without crying because the grief that Juliet experienced echoed my own when I lost my dad this year. There are still moments where I remember how much what she was thinking and experiencing felt like Brigid saw what was inside my head. There’s a scene in the book with her dad where he tells her that if she never feels ready to get rid of her mom’s cameras then that was okay. I didn’t know I needed to read that until that moment, and I just kind of lost it at that moment. This book touches on some heavy subjects, and Brigid treats them all with the utmost respect. I can stress enough how much this book meant to me.
