Reading outside for spooky season 😌
My upstairs neighbor started the morning off at 9:30am by doing step aerobics and has been moving furniture since then. It’s 8pm now 😓 so you can imagine how difficult it’s been for me to concentrate today 😂 hopefully after today, she’s done doing whatever she’s doing.

Hey all I just wanted to share some resources I’ve been gathering and reading during these protests (I want to keep this list of mostly free stuff so you can donate the costs instead of paying for the material, so this is definitely not an exhaustive list! Please feel free to reblog and add!)
The End of Policing by Alex S. Vitale (free ebook on Verso Books)
Policing the Planet: Why the Policing Crisis Led to the Black Lives Matter Movement edited by Jordan T. Camp & Christian Heatherton (free ebook on Verso Books)
Police: A Field Guide by David Correia & Tyler Wall (free ebook on Verso Books)
You can also find some lists of Verso Books on decolonization, abolition, and antiracism here (includes free and discounted ebooks)
“How Much Do We Need the Police?” (NPR interview of Alex S. Vitale in the wake of George Floyd’s murder)
“The Only Solution is the Defund the Police” (Alex S. Vitale in The Nation)
Cornel West: Neoliberalism Has Failed Us (2017 interview with Cornel West)
Because We’ve Read Digital Library
Who Do You Serve, Who Do You Protect?: Police Violence and Resistance in the United States edited by Joe Macaré, Maya Schenwar, and Alana Yu-lan Price (free ebook on Haymarket Books)
Freedom is a Constant Struggle: Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundations of a Movement by Angela Y. Davis (was a free ebook when I got it, now it’s $5.99 at Haymarket Books)
Institutionalized Racism: A Syllabus
“Late-Stage Capitalism and the Pedagogical Resurgance of Anti-Fascism”
“Abolish It All: Towards Eradicating the Prison and Military Industrial Complex” (lots of other stuff to read at the link also!)
Black History Month Library (a googledoc (not made by me!) with tons of PDFs, videos, and articles by Black writers including Cornel West, Malcolm X, James Baldwin, bell hooks, and Angela Davis (haven’t explored thoroughly yet))
“‘Toxic Culture’ if Police Departments Decried After 57 Buffalo Police Officers Resign in Supports of Two in Unit Who Attacked Elderly Man”
Master List of Black Revolutionary Readings (another googledoc including PDFs and articles on Marxist theory, Angela Davis, bell hooks, and Toni Morrison (haven’t explored thoroughly yet and not compiled by me! Credit in the googledoc))
As I said above, I haven’t read all of these completely yet and I tried to keep this list as free as possible so you can make donations to bail funds, Black owned businesses, and charities. This is by no means exhaustive! Please feel free to add any other free resources you might have!
