On Amphisbaena Classification
I have seen much disagreements on how many broad varieties of Amphisbaena there are, and honestly I do not understand the reason behind it. I fully believe that, at the heart of it all, there are two varieties of Amphisbaena. False and True.
Let me begin by defining terms. An Amphisbaena is a variety of multi-headed Tainted where, in opposition to a Hydra, the heads are positioned on opposite ends of the dragon. In order to be an Amphisbaena, a dragon must have at least two heads, one on each end.
So what, then, defines a head? One would think this question obvious, and in the end it is, but many have agonized and debated over it for decades, going round and round again like the very creature they are debating.
For me, personally, my definition for 'head' states that a head must meet one of the following characteristics, though ideal it will meet both.
Jaws or a mouth of some kind.
Sensory organs typical of that of a head.
Others will go on and on about the need for a skull, or for a brain. I would like to remind these people that there are many dragons for which their primary head lacks these features. Why then would a secondary head need to posses it?
So how then would an Amphisbaena be classified, if you have proven it has two heads? Simply. A False Amphisbaena has a secondary head which does not connect to the digestive system, while a True Amphisbaena has a secondary head which does connect to the digestive system.
A note on what most would call a False Amphisbaena. Many will use this term for dragons with tails which merely resemble heads, thanks to patterning and such. Because they lack heads, I refuse to call them False Amphisbaenas, instead preferring the term Amphisbaena Mimic.
