I was such a pin up girl 6 years ago.
Prelude.
okay so i was searching through my old files and red through my old fanfictions and original stories and i found this sort of cute idea i had a long time ago and its sorta shitty but im gonna put it here bc i felt like it. my plot, my characters. mae and alex.
I let my fingers glide over the long ivory keys as I create a beautiful harmony with every soft touch my fingers made with each key. I pressed my feet down on the golden levers again and again, merging the melodies into one soothing sound. I leaned closer against the sleek black instrument of music as if to make the sound more beautiful than ever. Decrescendo, estinto. I kept shifting my fingers left and right, changing octaves from high to low. The music howled like a lone wolf in the woods, filled with sorrow and grief and regret. Dolonte, dolore, doloroso.
“Alex, can I ask you a question?” I whispered as I lay down onto the warm luscious green grass next to him, his dirty blonde hair sprawled onto his face but failing to hide his usual grin.
“Sure thing, sweetheart, what is it?” he asked as he intertwined his fingers with mine. The golden ring on his finger shone as bright as the moon that night, as mine shone as bright as the stars.
“What would happen if one of us somehow went away?”
I started to run my fingers faster, creating a loud booming symphony. It was like a sudden storm raged on, thundering the earth and ripping the blue sky apart into dull grey clouds. It was like the sky refused to be ripped apart and the earth refused to shake. Crescendo, fortissimo, afferttando.
I bit my lip, aware of the sudden silence that has come over both of us like a rain cloud. I couldn’t read his expression and I was afraid I had angered him in a way. But the simple smile on his face told me otherwise.
“Why would you ask such a thing, doll? You know I’m not going anywhere,” he said as he pinched my nose in a teasing manner. Usually it would crack a smile on my face or make me burst a giggle, but instead I had frowned. Tears formed, clouding my vision as I started sobbing.
“No, that’s not what I meant!” I had said. “I mean, if one of us d-died.”
The blonde gave me a look. “Now, where did you get such a thought?”
“Please just answer me, Alex. Please.”
“We’d light a candle and say a prayer,” he simply said with that stupid lopsided smile of his. “And know that our love will still remain.”
I remembered everything. The way his lips stretched ear to ear when he grinned that stupid grin of his, how his eyes glimmered under the starry skies. I could feel his presence fleeting behind me as I play tunes of major and minors.
“Mae, promise me something.” he whispered out of the blue, grasping my hand in a tight but comforting grip. He had turned around to face me, his free hand caressing my cheek. “Whatever you do, promise me this one thing.”
“What is it?”
“Promise me,” he demanded, his bright green eyes gazing at me. “If one day I die, if one day I am gone, don’t forget me. Remember that I will always love you.”
“Alex....”
“But live your life without me and love again.”
“What?”
My lips trembled as I continue to press each key, gradually slowing the rhythm into a heartbeat tempo. Fortepiano, alla breve, allegretto. The strong roaring music slowed into a tender passionate song with slight sadness. Like the tear slowly falling from my cheek, the music gradually played with its melodies until it died and faded away.
He gave me a gentle smile and kissed my forehead affectionately. “Yes, love. I won’t be here forever. And when that time comes, I want you to be happy.”
“How could I ever be happy without you?”
“Love again, darling. That’s all I’m asking you to do.” he stated, running his fingers through my ebony brown hair.
“Ridiculous!” I spluttered as I furrowed my eyebrows. “I only love you, Alex. Only you.”
“Promise me, Mae. Promise me.” he spoke with his deep silky voice. “Promise.”
I can’t Alex. Can’t you see?
Fin.
The masterpiece had been completed. My chin now held high, my tired fingers resting a few inches above the piano keys. Tears streamed down my face. All was quiet until the audience clapped and clapped and rose from their seats. Men in tuxedos and women in dresses with smiles adorning their faces, few shouting wolf whistles and Encore! Bravo!
Bouquets of flowers of every kind; roses and lilies and lavenders were thrown onto the stage. The lights were aimed at me, shining too bright blinding my eyes. All the attention made me feel so small and helpless in the world so big. It made me feel like wanting to hide forever and never face anyone again.
Forcing a smile I stood and swayed towards the front, taking a grand bow as the claps and shouts were thrown at me. Tears never stopped falling, my mascara slowly smudged. The memory of the night in the meadow replayed over and over and over in my head. For a split second I saw his bright face in the middle of the crowd before it disappeared in a flash. The same words were repeated like a broken record no matter how much I willed it to stop, it never did.
“Promise.”
I’m sorry, Alex.
I can’t. I won’t.
I’m sorry.
what was i thinking back the lmao
