I received my preorder Caraval package last week, and it was incredible!! The map is stunning!! I'm not sure I'll ever have the courage to actually color it, for fear of ruining it. Cress is Book 3 in the Lunar Chronicles series from Marissa Meyer - a long book 3. (15+ hours of audiobook or 552 pages 😮) This series is Meyer’s reimagining of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and now, Rapunzel. The gang’s all here - including Wolf and Captain Thorne - all trying to save Emperor Kai from the evil Queen Levana. Partway through, the story felt like three different books at once 🤷🏼‍♂️ Meyer pulls them together at the end but part of this book felt like a bit of a slog. Scarlet is Book 2 in the Lunar Chronicles from Marissa Meyer. Really enjoyed Cinder so I had to continue the series. This is not a retelling but more of a reimagining of some familiar fairytale characters. We have Scarlet, whose grandmother is missing. Wolf, the street fighter, might know where she is. Scarlet runs into Cinder, a wanted fugitive/long lost Lunar princess. Mayhem ensues. A nice choice if you’re looking for a good story that’s not too weighty but interesting. I love Meyer’s imagination and the world she’s built. M/M Contemporary Romance, Sports Romance

Opposites attract, teacher-student taboo-ish, and a nice hot and spicy and yet sweet romance about a hockey player worried about his career if he shares his sexual orientation and a teacher worried about tenancy if he is discovered dating his former student.  So much going on in this one and I enjoyed it, especially the family and hockey friends.

Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson, Narrated by Rebecca Soler

Paranormal Suspense, YA

Wry heroine with an unconventional background I found refreshing- she’s Hispanic and Wiccan.  Good mystery.  So-so on teen school and social life.  Good dynamics between all the girls as flaws and mistakes are resolved.

Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence, Narrated by Heather O’Neill

#2 Book of the Ancestor

Fantasy

Strong and intense second leg of the series.  Nona advances in her classes, picks up a mean girl enemy.  Abbess Glass is working like a spider in the center of her web to make sure good results come of the actions she sets in motion.  Action packed and building to an incredible finish for all involved.  Can’t wait for what comes next.

#2 The Ones Who Got Away

Contemporary Romance

Talk about a romance that shouldn’t work, but does.  Rebecca, a school shooting survivor now divorce attorney finds herself indebted and attracted to the man she helped his ex take him to the cleaners.  Both of them are broken and put back together in their own ways.  I enjoyed their story.
