This one’s like. Basically canon I think, but Ketsu was the one who taught Sabine how to build bombs. She knew the basics from before her time at the Academy, and at some point during their school days she ended up showing Sabine how to make simple bombs. Sabine, chemistry and weapons nerd that she is, then got super into it and started doing crazy shit like rainbow fire bombs and remote-detonated explosive paint, while Ketsu stuck with more traditional demolitions stuff
Ketsu definitely had a fro-hawk while they were on the run together, and sometimes she’d let Sabine dye the tips. Ketsu acted all begrudging about it, but she actually really liked it, especially once Sabine got good enough that she stopped getting dye stains on Ketsu’s scalp. She shaved it all off after she joined Black Sun, hence her Grace Jones style hair in Rebels, but she missed the color, and once they reconcile she starts growing it out again.
Their relationship was very… fuzzy and poorly defined, I think. They were close friends, maybe friends with benefits, at the Academy, and it got very codependent and toxic while they were bounth hunters together, but being messy teens they never really talked about their relationship. It ended up being ambiguously patonic-romantic with some familial stuff thrown in (the homoerotic ‘little sister’ shit) by the time Ketsu left, which caused a lot of very complicated feelings once they reconciled. They eventually figure it out, but it takes some time.
Sabine definitely did the Star Wars equivalent of cyberstalking with Ketsu after the breakup (holostalking?). She’d obsessively check the Bounty Hunter Guild socials or whatever to see what Ketsu was doing every night for months. This was not exactly healthy; she absolutely flipped one night when she saw Ketsu had joined up with Black Sun. She finally broke the habit around the time that Rebels started, but she’d still do it every so often until Blood Sisters, after which point they started holo-calling again.
Hera and Kanan definitely heard a lot about Ketsu once Sabine joined the crew. I think girl was absolutely a mess for those first few months, and Hera, Zeb, and Kanan did their best to comfort her, which included a lot of listening to angry ranting and late-night screaming. However, Sabine and Ketsu’s relationship was so murky and complicated that the rest of the crew wasn’t really sure how it worked either. At one point after a long crying session, Kanan asked Sabine if her and Ketsu had been dating or something, which made Sabine start crying again because she wasn’t actually sure if they were or not.
Ketsu and Sabine both had pretty big growth spurts after they escaped from the Academy, so they rapidly outgrew most of their armor. Ketsu, who I hc as having been trained to be an armorer with her clan (this is based on nothing I just like it), eventually reforged her own armor into the larger pauldrons and unique helmet she has in the show, and she offered to do the same for Sabine, but their relationship was already deteriorating by then and Sabine refused.
Ketsu took payments in Beskar when she could working for Black Sun. She was planning to use for her own armor (because girl has like. 3 pieces??), but once she and Sabine reconciled, Sabine asked her to help reforge her armor, and Ketsu ended up using the extra Beskar to improve Sabine’s armor, hence the different-shaped pauldrons and new shinguards Sabine has in Seasons 3 and 4.
Ketsu has a soft spot for droids, and once she fully joined the Rebellion, she spent a lot of time hanging with Chopper and AP-5. They absolutely ended up hearing about Ketsu and Sabine’s rekindling relationship, and AP-5 did his best to actually help them work through their shit and get together, while Chopper used it as excuse to cause chaos and force them to work together
I don’t think they fully get (back?) together until after canon. Ketsu probably visits and runs supplies while Sabine is rebuilding Lothal, and they eventually confess and start a romantic relationship sometime around the Battle of Yavin
Once Sabine returns to the Rebellion during the Galactic Civil War, she and Zeb start fighting as ground troops (because Hera and Chopper are in Command and aren’t flying a ton of missions anymore). Ketsu is always their air support, and she and Sabine end up bantering over comms a lot during battle (Zeb is somewhat annoyed by this, but he finds it cute).
I do think their relationship either falls apart or takes a serious blow after the purge of Mandalore. Ketsu wants to fight back against Gideon and rebuild with her clan, but Sabine, having lost everything, retreats back to Lothal and isolates herself. They eventually work things out and get back together after the search for Ezra, (which does not happen like Ashowka) but it’s rough for a while.
