🎬🎥✊🏽 #ArtIsAWeapon Last night I attended a screening of the @augustafilms documentary "The Rape of Recy Taylor." I URGE everyone to see this film and learn about Ms. Taylor's story, which has gone largely unknown despite her courageous fight for justice in racist 1944 Alabama. The documentary will be available on digital platforms and on demand streaming beginning March 20: www.therapeofrecytaylor.com ___________________ Following a brutal sexual assault by six white boys, Recy Taylor spoke up - an act of bravery and defiance, particularly during the Jim Crow era. A young Rosa Parks (before she sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott) assisted Mrs. Taylor with getting her story out and pursuing her case in court. Although it is historically significant, many people are just learning about Recy Taylor's activism. @oprah acknowledged Mrs. Taylor in her acceptance speech at this year's @goldenglobes (https://youtu.be/fN5HV79_8B8). Mrs. Taylor's case was a pivatol moment in the early civil rights movement and for Black women sexual assault survivors. I remain humbled and in awe of the countless Black women who persevered, organized, strategized, resisted and refused to back down. . . #recytaylor #therapeofrecytaylor #rosaparks #civilrightsmovement #WomensHistoryMonth #documentary #ICMPolitics #nancybuirski #TraScapades #ArtIsAWeapon (at NeueHouse)
