Things I didn't expect to do but I wanted to write a Morro redemption fanfic so here we are anyway:

-Research the long term effects of inhaling methane gas

-Hate Wu more

-Like seriously Wu did a terrible job

-Piss off a bunch of ghosts

-Realize how fun it is to write about a parrot mocking people

-Write casually about a talking book

-Take up 3 months to finish something that was already half finished anyway

Consider this for a hot second

Redeemed Morro, whether he stays ghost or gets turned back into a human, in a new gi, but always wears it with the right panel over left - like a dead person dressed in traditional Japanese wear. It's got accents that are like a dusty and very gray-ish desaturated green, that's his color now. Serves as a reminder of his past, the long gone past. He doesn't use a full head wrap often, preferring a bandana-style mask because it helps him feel the wind better than completely being wrapped up. Other than that his uniform is generally as old-fashioned as you can imagine tbh.

“You remind me of a kiwi,” Kai said, not looking up from his phone as he played Tetris.

“I—what?” Morro asked. The two of them had been sitting in absolute silence for at least 10 minutes now, and he had no idea where that had come from.

“You know... black... green... like a kiwi!”

Morro stared at him in bewilderment. “I remind you of a fruit because my skin is transparent green.”

“Yep.”

“Okay fine, you remind me of an apple, cause you’re always wearing red.”

“That’s fair.”

“You ninja are so weird.”

“Hey, you’re one of us too now, weirdo,” Kai said, looking at him with a smirk that was anything but mean.

Morro didn’t want to admit it, but he liked being part of an “us”.

*looks around nervously* destinyshipping, if possible? I need a little bit of Morro×Kai

“Ugh.” Morro fiddled with his collar. “I don’t understand. Why do I have to come to this thing?”

Kai tugged his hands away from the offending fabric and smoothed it himself with a hint of heat. “Well, you are technically the green ninja’s cousin.” He stepped back only to whip a comb out of who-knows-where and continue his assault. “Not to mention a current member of the ninja.”

Morro rolled his eyes as Kai kept his head steady. “I understand that, I suppose.” He batted a gelled hand away from his hair. “Don’t even think about it, firebrand.” Kai shrugged and wiped off the goo on a hand towel. “But...I’m not exactly...”

Kai preened in the mirror. “Not exactly, what?”

Morro sat on his bed, arms at his sides. “I’m not exactly up for a popularity award.”

Kai frowned at his boyfriend’s glum look. “Well, I mean,” he sighed and sat next to him. “What does that matter? We all like you. I for one love you.” He stole a quick peck on Morro’s cheek. “And really, half the city formed a gang dedicated to killing Lloyd. It’s amazing any of us are liked.”

Morro huffed. “Kai, there is a big difference between not being liked and,” he sucked in a breath. “And,”

Kai frowned. “And?”

“And being one of the many threats to this realm.”

The two sat in silence, the event forgotten.

“Morro, I,” Kai let out a long breath. “I...have no idea how to help. I wish I did.” He pulled him in close, wrapping a protective arm around him. “But...I do know how it hurts.”

Morro raised an eyebrow. “And how would you know that?”

Kai bit his lip. “I ah,” he rubbed the back of his head. “I kinda lost it, once. Did anyone ever tell you about Chen?” Morro nodded. He’d heard enough whining from Clouse to know the basics of the story. “I had the staff. Coulda smashed it.” He gripped the sheets tightly in his hands. “Instead, I let it take control. I turned that thing on Lloyd. On my sister. On the team. I’m just,” he let out another breath. “I’m just lucky the rest of the team was there to snap me out of it.”

“Kai, I,”

Kai smiled at the dark haired ninja next to him. “And we’re here for you, too, Dust Devil. No matter what.”

Morro returned his warm gaze, fears quieted for now. “Thanks, Firebrand.”
