Why are you hating on typology (enneagram in this case) while having a blog dedicated to the same exact thing? Like that doesn't make any sense. Yes we should all be caring way less about this but you have a freaking blog about it get off that horse.

But to answer this more seriously, I do actually enjoy the concept of core ennatypes a lot and think it can be quite helpful. However, once you get into differences between the same core with different wings, or your non-core fixes, or the wings to your non-core fixes, I find it has seriously diminishing returns - knowing you’re a 1 core has a lot of value, but I’m really not sure how much self-knowledge is to be gained from knowing you’re a 1w2 vs. a 1w9. And in doing some more research into enneagram, I’m finding that not only is it a pseudoscience (which we all knew) but literally no one involved in its development even agrees on what it includes.
I say things like go outside or meet a person jokingly, but perhaps I should say it more seriously and earnestly, because I do genuinely believe that if you’re into typology not as a game of numbers and letters but in any sort of drive to better understand yourself and others, you will absolutely better achieve that goal through having life experiences and interacting with people and trying to understand where they’re coming from and what your own motivations are, just in general, than by biting your nails over whether your non-core head fix is a 5 or a 6. In some cases, such as when people look to typology in order to ‘read’ people or analyze relationships, I think it’s worse to give a typology-based answer than to say “communicate with other people and go outside.” Simply because I have a blog about one of my interests doesn’t mean I think it’s always the right tool to use.
Add that to the fact that I’m not particularly interested in having abstract discussions with strangers on the internet and so when I get questions without any context about things I perceive as fairly negligible differences with little real-world impact, I write answers presumably like whichever one led you to send this.
