Taking a break from my Rain World shenanigans to propose that these two could make a pretty funny "good cop/bad cop" style brOTP based on this little snippet of dialogue from WondLa Book 3! That is, assuming Redimus would ever agree to work so closely with someone possessing such an opposite personality.
Behold my greatest work of art yet:
I made a show version, too:
First of all: Yaaay, he wasn't written out!!!
On another note... @dracocheesecake and @faithisthedoctor, what do you think of his design and portrayal?
I always flip-flop on whether or not I prefer Besteel and Redimus's designs in the show or in the books
On one hand, I like how the show picked cooler colours for Besteel (black and blue) and warmer colours for Redimus (gold and brown). It's an interesting way to highlight how the two are meant to be the complete opposite of one another in personality and their relationship with Eva. I also like the detail that Reddie's hair on his back and chin is much longer and in general he's a bit more chubbier compared to Besteel. Again it somewhat hints at the fact that he was stuck in prison, so it makes sense that he wouldn't be well-groomed or not able to exercise properly even though they don't mention his imprisonment at all in the show
But on the other hand, I like how Besteel and Redimus actually look like they're related while still clearly being two different characters in the books. What makes both of their designs fantastic is how they're able to give the two completely different vibes by only changing a few things. With Besteel's fur looking more pointy and almost all his illustrations having his pupils be tiny. While Redimus's fur is much softer looking, and he has much kinder eyes whenever he's illustrated. I also really miss Reddie's eyepatch, I think it's a cool detail that helps give him a bit more personality
Also am I crazy is are these two pages meant to be a parallel to one another?
Headcanon: Dorceans are not only rough as adults, but beat the snot out of each other for fun as cubs.
I feel like Besteel would fit the bully big brother trope well.
@dracocheesecake this better be a joke. This BETTER. Be. A. Joke.
I decided to do some quick research. Theoretically, I don't trust AI search engines for this type of info, so I'm going with the narrative that season 3 is unknown regarding the whereabouts of our beloved Dorcean. If they remove his character, the entire series is a disaster, not just for the love of the character, but for his story and the reason why he existed in the first place. The entire point of Redimus's existence is that it portrayed a sense of forgiveness despite old wounds still having a stinging pain, and to not fully judge every being the same way based on the actions of another from the same species. Not to mention that Redimus is the reason why Eva Nine got Queen Ojo on her side and was even willing to sacrifice himself to protect her. A DORCEAN. Protecting a HUMAN CHILD. Other species would have most likely questioned it, but with Redimus? He only questioned why he had to find her. Not why she needed protection. And the end of the book!? He becomes an adopted uncle to the family!? Are you kidding me!? This is giving "Disney turns Jumba into the main villain while cutting out the father/son dynamic he had with Stitch, the uncle/niece dynamic he had with Lilo, the husband/roommate dynamic he had with Pleakley, and dangerous uncle/babysitter dynamic with Nani! All to replace Gantu who was a beloved and amazing character who ended up becoming a protagonist at the very end." (He was a protagonist in the beginning, but just had some twisted ways of expressing it, but I digress).
My point in this 4-hour sleep, after working a 12-hour shift, winded and tired af rant is that you can't remove a character that had major significance into a plot that was there in the book but may not be included in the show.
Besteel and Redimus becoming tumblr sexymen was not on my bingo card for the WondLa show but in hindsight how could it not have been.
