So I'm a been thinking about Redwall again. Specifically the Redwall TV show. So I personally prefer the Redwall TV show over the original book because of the better characterization of cornflower. (The book is still amazing!) While I like the Martin the Warrior book over the TV show.
However thinking about the shows, I realized they had a parallel for the climax. Both Cornflower and Rose where captured and used against the heroes. With only Cornflower suriveing.
For Matthias and Cornflowers situation, part of me couldn't help but think. Was Martin looking out for them? They were in his Abbey, and he was faced with the same thing, could he have just been "I won't let it happen again...." He lost Rose he wasn't about to see another Warrior lose his love.
Also I realized why Rose death hit so much harder as a kid. I saw cornflower held at sword point and survive! So they would do the same thing for Rose, Martin would save her. They set up that expectation in the first Season only to stab you in the heart instead.
