I'm just having fun now. WFTDA rules on legal blocking and target zones in roller derby, as applied to snakes. I could have sworn there was an update clarifying that you didn't need to wear protective equipment on body parts you didn't have, but I can't find it in the 2018 Risk Management Guidelines - they just specify that minimum safety gear includes knee-, elbow- and wristguards.
@antriebsloosigkeit, since you asked, the WFTDA rules on legal blocking and target zones in roller derby, as applied to axolotls. I decided the tail should be treated as an extension of the human coccyx. Additional concerns include the difficulty of getting axolotls into adorable little contrasting uniforms, and the tendency of bearings to rust underwater.
Edit: I got the target zones on the front of the legs wrong though.
Ref school and Skating ruts
I made the decision that I was going to join the referee school my league was running.
I made this decision because: A) I do shift work so any extra chance I can get to be on skates is a bon(e)us for me really. B) it will improve my game of Derby as I will understand the rules better. C) I quite fancy the idea of giving penalties XD
The ref school is ran by a level 2 ref close to the league and we have such fun, we end up digressing into massive tangents about the craziest of things and I’ve learnt so much.
I have already admitted to myself that I will never pass my minimum skills and be a proper skater, my dreams of A team glory and D1 playoffs against Skald Eagle will never be.
But zebra-ing could be a thing for me? I dunno, I had a go at scrim night after one of the session and although i saw penalties I didn’t call them, only because by the time I’d remembered the hand signal and the call etc someone else had already done it XD.
I’ve been in a real skating rut at the moment. I’m doing lots of random shifts and missing out on training so I really don’t feel like I’m improving at all. My body is letting me down; I have hip displasia in my right hip, going derby direction is OK as for crossovers etc the weight is on my left hip but as soon as we go none derby direction it hurts to just skate let alone try and crossover. And then the newbies (who are wonderful and Keen and I love them) just whizz past me with no issues.
I’m proud of them for progressing and learning but at the same time I’m so bitterly heartbroken and disappointed by my own failure. I think I could be pre-mins for about 5 years :s
I know previously I’ve talked about utilising the amazing A and B team skaters and motivation and teachers but I’m at the point where I’m embarrassed to ask the same question for the 1 billionth time or fail at the same technique they’ve been trying to help me with. I feel like I’m letting them down.
I’ve done a lot of night shifts recently as well , 6 in 10 days to be exact and I’m so disorientated that I don’t even know what day of the week I’m on to be quite frank and after a big tipsy rant with my mother a few weekends ago I’m trying to establish if I actually hate my job. Which is fun.
I’m so sleepy and confused and sad at the moment, blargh
Bones out.
