Visual Development Portfolio Tips by Sony Pictures Imageworks
You should be looking at the visual development work coming out of studios right now. What level of work are they producing? Of course, that will depend on the studio and artists, so you should start researching where you might want to work, and who works there. Look for vis. dev. artists' blogs. Soak up their work. Look for tutorials or tips from them. Here are some helpful sites:
Deja View
Tulptorials
Temple of the Seven Golden Camels
The Living Lines Library
Character Design Interviews
Rad How-To
Chris Oatley
Paperwings Podcast
Books:
James Gurney's Color and Light
Dream Worlds
The Skillful Huntsman
The Art of Layout & Storyboarding
Good luck!
