One of the players in the first part of Jake Simpson's The Sims 2 Dev Twitter Thread asked a question:
Absolutely amazing info! Sims 2 has and will always be my favourite of the franchise. I have a question, early screenshots and gameplay videos seemed to show the game in a better graphical state then it ended up with. Reflections of objects/floors. Better dynamic lighting etc.
But this question was not answered by Jake Simpson, but by William Mendoza. In the credits, he is listed as one of the Object Modelers, those who modeled the objects for the game.
And here is his answer:
I was an artist on The Sims 2. The reason the trailers looked better was because they were rendered using 3D animation software and not using the game render engine. This was because the game render engine wasn’t finished.
And the next question from another player:
Did you cut the reflective flooring because of performance issues?
And the answer from William Mendoza:
That’s essentially what happened but it wasn’t my decision or anything.
And one more question:
Am I also right in saying it used to rain indoors? Hence why weather was removed?
Answer:
The thing is with game development is that thousands of features are designed and many of them are cut over time. It just happens. I also worked on MySims for the Wii and that went through lots of changes over development.
And the last question:
In your honest opinion, do you feel like the current state of The Sims has lost its roots?
I was mostly involved with creation of assets for home building and decorating, and those features seem to be following the spirit of the Sims 2.

Так они же многодетные, все нормально :D P.S. Лично я никого не осуждаю, но как мы уже раньше говорили, в симс 2 многодетные должны страдать
