The hybrid exhaled a chuckle, shaking her head to cover the faint traces of surprise that threatened to make themselves known across her features. As…pedestrian as it was, there had been a part of her that had hoped that it was intended to be a date…but what she had expected was quite the opposite.
There had been meaningful glances, stolen looks, and conversations where the unsaid carried more weight than what was said for months now… But even so, the Original knew just how dangerous hope could be when allowed to run unchecked. She also knew just how dangerous it was to truly allow someone past your defenses.
“I wasn’t certain what to expect, love,” she admitted, speaking softly, rolling her shoulders in a lazy shrug. “But…” she drawled, a smirk playing at her lips, “I can hardly say that I’m disappointed.”
There was a fine line between allowing them exist in private and publicly showing everyone how they felt. That didn’t stop her from wanting what everyone else seemed to get and she seemed to only be reaching for. The fact that there were these invisible boundaries only served to frustrate her. Even if she understood the danger of being found out, it didn’t stop her from wanting to say ‘fuck you’ over it all.
She let out a breath she didn’t know that she’d been holding waiting for Nik to say something. She didn’t know what she thought the hybrid was going to say but now that she’d said something, she felt slightly more at ease. She glanced downward for a moment before back up at her, teeth biting her lip slightly in thought.
“I think if there is anything that I’ve learned is that you don’t like being disappointed,” she mused with a light smile. “I don’t think it would do for me to do that. I think you prefer me alive anyways.”
