gay? slightly homoerotic? But like, in an unhealthy manipulation kinda way? Thinking about “hurt people hurt people” and I’m just saying there might be something there.
This might be self-projection/trauma speaking. I’m also very sick currently. But I need someone to tell me if I’m out of my mind or if this is something that other people see
Here it is, my very first animatic! It’s clunky, it’s jank, but it is ALIVE. I remember coming up with this meme in my head and knowing the perfect lines to use, so when I finally got to make it a reality I was very proud of myself.
The main difference that people notice between Edwin and Regis Blackgaard is that their noses are different - Edwin's nose is crooked whereas Regis' nose is straight. The reason is that Regis broke Edwin's nose when they were kids and it never got set correctly. To this day it drives Edwin crazy that his nose is crooked, but Shakespeare always tells him that it gives him "character" and that it's "quite fetching, really." It helps a little.

And this is a pretty wide spectrum of bad, but I’m including characters who are presented as inherent, if not totally harmful, bad guys due to their views not aligning with Whit’s and therefore casting them as a villain in the eyes of the audience

realization about regis blackgaard i just had: in “the battle” he says he’s stupid with computers and relies on richard to do all the computer stuff, hanging back and asking a bunch of basic questions, but then in “double trouble” whit posts the article about regis being in vienna at some kind of technology conference, iirc giving talks about computer languages or something along those lines
which means that regis, after his escape, was considering finding another computer guy, then looked at everything that happened with his original computer guy — a teenage thug who spent most of his time (and some of regis’s pocket change) drinking sodas and milkshakes with a kid who had very little actual strategic value to their corporate espionage plans, and then used his “i’m in” skills and the moral code he’d accidentally absorbed from said kid to wreck literally everything regis had built in odyssey — and said “if you want something done right, do it yourself”
Glossman: Sir, I'm afraid you've gone mad with power... Dr. Blackgaard: Of course I have. You ever tried going mad without power? It's boring. No one listens to you!
Just jumped into the 1000 Episode Fan Art link and grabbed Episode 334, The Final Conflict! I have a solid idea for The Final Conflict fanart entry, and I really hope FotF likes it! I grew up with some of the Odyssey cartoons, but it was the Blackgaard Chronicles that got me into the radio program and made me realize that the world AiO takes place in is much larger than the cartoons suggested. And in my opinion, The Blackgaard Chronicles is about hope and despair: Some of the characters are full of hope (Whit, Jack, Jason, etc), Eugene and Richard are somewhere in the middle given their experiences with forgiveness and redemption, and then there's the arc's namesake, who's full of despair (Blackgaard).
To me, Dr. Blackgaard in The Final Conflict is what you get when despair enters a morally broken soul. He wants eternal life, but without the Jesus part, because that would mean changing himself, and that bothers him more than he lets on. I want my piece to convey that brokenness, not enough to concern FotF and be denied, but just enough to show what despair looks like.
And yeah, I'm probably overthinking this arc to a degree, but whenever I hear Earl Boen's performance in the Final Conflict, the word 'despair' tends to come to mind.
