Our numbers weren't Legion, but there were more than people knew of. The library was well stocked, obviously, but so much work could only be done by so many people. When the paledrake fell, each one of us who fell with him would not return. There is no craftsman to fashion the figure from clay. There is no Lord to breathe Fire into their bellies.

There were less of us each day, and at the end of the long road, only I remained.
