Rin of all people knew how rude it was to stare at someone, but this was just... bizarre. The girl who’d just sat down across from him looked just like his mother, to the point where he’d had to do a double take to make totally sure she wasn’t. She was obviously much younger, around Rin’s age instead of nearing 40, but her moles were even in all the same places.
His first thought was that this girl could be a relative of some sort, which was an exciting idea. His mother didn’t talk about her side of the family after she’d been disowned, so it was entirely possible he had aunts and uncles— and cousins! —he’d never known about. Rin had always wanted a cousin.
“U-Uh, excuse me?” Rin said quietly, trying to catch the girl’s attention. “A-Are you, um... Is your family name Egin? Or are you related to anyone with that surname?” Realizing how strange his questions sounded, Rin grew nervous and began to fidget. “I’m just wondering ‘cause, uh, you look a lot like my ma and brother and our surname’s Egin so I thought...” Rin bit his lip. “I’m sorry if that’s rude. You don’t have to answer.”
He really hadn’t thought this through. If this girl really was a cousin, she was still from the side of the family that had disowned his mother for having him— meaning she probably wouldn’t be thrilled to find out she had the spawn of Satan for cousins. If she even knew demons existed...
