Kakyoin and Jotaro’s First Christmas
Jotaro woke up to the sound of Christmas carols and the smell of warm freshly baked pancakes. He could hear Kakyoin singing joyfully, prancing around the living room. Jotaro groaned. First of December... He rolled back over and tried to sleep but unfortunately Kakyoin's singing was too... captivating.
Eventually he turned over and sat up in the bed when Kakyoin came in. Holding a giant pile of pancakes, Kakyoin, dressed in a full on Santa costume, sat down next to Jotaro.
"Yare yare daze..." Jotaro muttered, "Really, Kakyoin?" Jotaro knew Kakyoin loved Christmas but he'd never been here to experience the horror first hand. It was their first Christmas together, after about 10 months of being together. Jotaro went to put on his hat and gladly settle into his pancakes but Kakyoin snatched the hat out of his hands and plopped a little elf hat on Jotaro.
"Today, even the Jotaro's of the world will spread their very limited supply of joy," Kakyoin said, "Find your supply, dear."
Jotaro looked up to pull a frustrated face at Kakyoin, only to notice Kakyoin had tinsel braided through his floof and a bell on the end. What was originally a mocking (lighthearted, of course) scowl turned into a strange half smile as Jotaro suddenly felt all warm inside.
"Now, eat up," Kakyoin said, "I need lots of help from my busy, little elf today." Kakyoin left and gave Jotaro a kiss on the cheek.
Blushing despite himself Jotaro mumbled, "I'm like half a foot taller then you, you're the little elf...."
Once Jotaro had finished breakfast, he went out to the living room. Kakyoin was right - they did have a lot of work to do. Before they even touched the tree, they had to put up lights all over the house, put up reindeer statues out front, cut out millions of detailed snowflakes to hang around the house. All whilst jamming to Christmas tunes, Kakyoin dancing around and singing and Jotaro mumbling to himself. He had to admit - their lives weren't easy and it was nice to see his boyfriend so happy.
Then it was time... for the tree. As Kakyoin put the millionth piece of tinsel on it Jotaro had to ask. "What is up with you and tinsel?"
Kakyoin stopped dancing the first time all morning and he got really serious. "First of all it's super fun to say. Seriously do it. Second of all it's like the best Christmas decoration - super duper iconic. Thirdly it's so happy and bright. Fourth, it's always been my favorite but my parents didn't like it and thought it looked tacky. So I was never able to put it up as a kid. And now I'm not a kid so," Jotaro looked at him skeptically, "Okay not legally." He laughed and continued to put more tinsel around until the whole house was covered.
Then they put cotton wool on the ends to make it look like snow. "This is gonna be a pain to take off..." Jotaro complained.
They set up the train set underneath it.
"Well, that looks about it, can this finally be over?"
"Uh no, we haven't even made the ginger bread house or cookies - but there's also one more decoration to add." Kakyoin pulled something out of his red Santa coat. "Usually it's traditional to put a star or angel on the top and you know I love traditions but.. Close your eyes." Kakyoin paused and placed Jotaro's hand on the sheet of paper he'd stuck on the metal spiral to stick on the tree. They put it on together. "Open them."
One side of the paper was a photo of them on one of the first dates they went on. They went ice skating and Kakyoin is holding onto Jotaro as he required the support to stop from slipping. On the back was a beautiful drawing of Heirophant Green and Star Platinum.
"I made this because you're my angel and my star."
Jotaro's eyes misted slightly and Kakyoin gave him a big hug. The words came out before he even thought about it. The first time he'd uttered them before to Kakyoin. To anyone...
Kakyoin's eyes widened with pure joy. Kakyoin could tell that Jotaro had felt it before and Kakyoin had said it but Jotaro hardly ever spoke. This verbal confession was something he thought he could only dream of. "I love you too," Kakyoin said, "I love you too."
They made ginger bread cookies and flicked on the train set under the tree. For a long while they just sat there, eating cookies and snuggling. Jotaro begrudgingly agreed to watching Elf with Kakyoin. They drank hot chocolate.
As Jotaro got into bed, taking off his elf hat and helping Kakyoin unbraid his hair from tinsel, he smiled. Maybe Christmas wasn't so bad.
As long as his darling Kakyoin was Santa.
