You never thought rainbows would define one of your relationships as much as it did yours with one Derek Morgan.
It happened by pure coincidence, too.
All at a small coffee shop where he'd been getting his morning cup while you were getting something sweet after your overnight shift at the hospital. A peds nurse by trade, you needed a little pick-me-up before you got home and called it a night.
He saved you from a sharp corner on the counter but not unscathed himself.
Thankfully, the injury was minor. A simple bandage did the trick. A bandage with a rainbow design, a leftover from your scrubs pocket during your shift.
As thanks, he'd bought your sweet treat and your favorite drink.
The two of you even sat down to enjoy a few extra minutes together. There was a pull between you that you hadn't felt with another person in some time. Maybe it was his easy charm or the mischief present in his gaze as he interacted with you. You weren't sure, but you wanted to find out.
Sadly, those minutes went far too quickly for either of your liking.
But it wasn't hopeless.
Derek had asked you for your number.
You didn't hesitate in giving it to him, hopeful of seeing him again.
Your days soon found themselves full of texts and quick messages from him, especially when he was on the road with his unit.
Each morning, you woke to a good morning text. A rainbow emoji followed the words.
Every evening, he'd send you a good night one as well. Another rainbow emoji added at the end.
Whenever you two did get together and have a date night, he'd bring you some small trinket. Somewhere on each one was a tiny rainbow, always bright and shiny wherever he could fit it.
When you asked him why, he said, "Because you're a sign of hope after darkness. You never fail to brighten my day."
"You're mine, too," you said softly back.
It was true, too.
While most of your tiny patients were a real pleasure, not all of them had the best circumstances or home lives. Some even found themselves under your care because of those same circumstances and home lives. Those were the cases that broke your heart the most. You poured as much love into those patients as you could. It was your hope that they'd never forget someone out there cares, even if it doesn't feel like it.
Some days were all the harder when you had such patients in your care.
Those were the days that you'd glance at your phone more often in the quiet moments, rereading all of Derek's past messages. Sometimes, you'd even find a new one awaiting you. It never failed to bolster you, so you could get through the rest of your shift. He always left rainbow emojis on those messages as well. Just to remind you of the day you met. A day that changed your life in ways you never imagined.
So yeah, you grew to love rainbows and all they represented in your life because of one Derek Morgan.
Relationships aren't static. Relationship evolution is necessary to survive. This includes changing relationship needs, growing together, and healthy communication. This quote is from our book,
I have to say, despite the mini-ridiculous-argument we had today about parking at Fantasia, I am glad that we were able to resolve the issue so quickly and maturely. It just shows that we've evolved to the point where we know that frivolous arguments such as these hold no flame to the foundation that we've built, and that we can determine when an argument has absolutely no standing in our relationship, and doesn't affect our relationship or who we are. Sometimes.. I think we just need a good yell or argument to get frustration off our chests but that doesn't affect the way we love each other.
I love you baby. Thank you for loving me unconditionally, through big and little arguments <3
me: look - let's just forget about it. it was stupid. i don't know why it happened but it was a one-off. i'm sorry if i blamed you and i was wrong for that, and next time i won't walk away but i'll ask you if we can go somewhere else to talk instead.
i'll get a boba later to make up for my loss today =\
