one of the first clients of the day, a particularly pretty red headed man with virgin skin — and his first tattoo was going to be a tramp stamp. a perfect choice, if she had to say so herself. he hadn’t settled on an idea yet when he booked. but, now that they were meeting face to face, maybe he would have a couple concepts bouncing around his head. “ ‘morning friend! i’m excited — are you excited? have you got anything in mind yet? ” many would say her passion and intensity can be … overwhelming. a blazing ray of sunshine no matter the time of day. hopefully he wasn’t too off put it.

Something soft is being tucked under her chin and around her shoulders, and that’s what rouses Naoko from her little nap. “Mmm... what?” Squinting up and around, catching a glimpse of red hair, she sighs contentedly, then winces at the crick in her neck. “Wow--” A cough to clear her sleepy throat. “--didn’t mean to fall asleep here, actually.”

Rem says he figures, but he didn’t want to disturb her, not knowing how long she’d been napping for. It warms her heart, like all the other things he does for her.

“Might actually...” She tugs the blanket close around her neck and shoulders as she struggles to sit up. “Go to bed properly. Still tired, honestly.” A sniff. “Join me for a bit? I’ve missed you, sappy motherfucker that I am.”

A bitter thought: a little late to that. But it’s not fair, so she stops herself from spitting acid, stops herself from working herself into the sort of state that seeks to ruin good things herself instead of letting others take horrid glee in doing it for her. Thinks, understands, feels the exact same. Still, wriggling her way between the walls at Maliwan is, at this point, a necessity, and there’s not a lot of time to spare. Even if she would like to wait for Rembrin to catch up with her, because she knows (remembers) how terrifying it can get.

“Not to be flippant, because I get it, I swear, but I have been hurt plenty before, and... and you know what? Water off a duck’s back.” A short laugh. “You know that. I’ve told you before.” She licks her lips, then mutters a quick, “I’ll be fine,” before disconnecting her ECHO device. She has to be quiet now that she’s back in this hellhole.

It was good of him to pretend not to notice the stiffness in her back and the way both hands were tucked under the pillows despite nothing of worth being hidden under them -- a habit she only half-remembers to perform, or half-performs. Or maybe he was tired from the long day, and couldn’t see her hands either way since her back was to him to begin with.

“S’OK.” One hand slides out and behind to grasp for Rembrin’s, her fingers wiggling slowly with impatience when he doesn’t immediately comply. Oh, they’re both tired, asleep or awake. “I kept waking up anyway,” she says, half-laughing drily as she pulls his arm around her waist. “You’re right. Long day.”
