For all the Cheetah Lovers! Did you know the Cheetah is Africa’s most threatened big cat. Their populations have suffered a 90% decline over the past century. Only about 7,000 cheetahs are left in the wild. In Asia, cheetahs are now confined to Iran, where the subspecies Acinonyx jubatus venaticus is estimated at 60-100 and listed as Critically Endangered. In Africa, the cheetah's biggest threat is habitat loss due to human encroachment. They are also struggling with declines in prey and conflicts with humans. High cub mortality due to predation by carnivores like lions and hyenas are such that only 5% of cheetah cubs make it to adulthood. If you love cheetahs, care about their plight & fancy a magnificent coffee table book then buy @rememberingwildlife’s #RememberingCheetahs book. 100% of the proceeds go towards cheetah conservation projects, like @ccfcheetah https://buyrememberingwildlife.com/ Please do support the work of cheetah conservationist Laurie Marker and her organization, the Cheetah Conservation Fund. Follow @ccfcheetah. They are the leaders in conserving and protecting this species. And please—as cute as they are—never support the cheetah cub pet trade. Hundreds of cheetah cubs are taken from the wild each year to be sold as pets. Of these, only a few survive. The majority die due to inadequate care in the hands of their smugglers, and even of their owners. However, the trade continues and it is critically important to raise awareness, and educate people. Never visit a facility that offers you the chance to hold and pet cheetah cubs, and please don’t support such photos on social media. A good page to follow on Facebook, where you can learn much more about why this is such an inhumane practice is, “So you want a pet cheetah?” Check it out.
