Revision: My muse meets yours under entirely different circumstances.
“What gives! I haven’t done anything wrong, let me go!” Rhienne sighed as she tightened her cables around the young woman’s wrists after she had tried to run. Rhienne hated everything about her job right now. Since the rise of Amon’s terrorist acts in the city and Chief Beifong’s resignation, the station has become a bureaucratic and oppressive force in the city. She understood that the goal was to keep the citizens safe, but she did not feel that arresting first-time violators of the new curfews was the way to do it.
We need to track down the equalists and NOT the citizens… It just creates unnecessary hassle! She grimaced as the woman tried to pull away again. “Please don’t make this harder than it has to be… My orders were clear. You are under arrest in violation of the new curfew ordinance. After questioning, you will be released and until then, you will be held indefinitely.” Spirits… I can’t believe they make me say that!
Rhienne moved toward her and took out a pair of handcuffs before undoing her first cable and clasping the woman’s hand behind her back, followed by the other. As soon as both of her cables had snapped back into the mechanism on her back, the woman spun and rammed her forehead between Rhienne’s eyes, causing Rhienne to stumble back. Damn!
The woman began running away as fast as she could on her long, strong legs, considering her wrists were locked behind her back. Rhienne erected a stone wall, stopping her in her tracks. The woman spun away from the wall and kicked at the ground, effectively sending sharp shards of ice toward Rhienne, formed from a puddle of rain water in the street.
Rhienne moved to the left and shielded her face with one arm before shooting her right cable toward the woman. The ice hit her armor harmlessly, clangs ringing up and down the street. Rhienne heard the woman cuss when her cables clasped tightly around her torso before Rhienne walked toward her. “Now I have a valid excuse for bringing you in…resisting arrest is a serous offense, you know…” The woman nodded, much more sullen now. “Sorry…”
They began walking toward the station, and Rhienne spoke, her head throbbing from the earlier attack. “Listen… I’m not going to report you for resisting arrest because that will be an even bigger headache than I already have… Thanks to you, by the way.” The woman looked over at her, surprised. “What? Seriously!? You’re not a very good cop, are you?” Rhienne rolled her eyes, but winced when it sent a sharp pain back behind her eyes. “Yes I’m serious, and don’t push you’re luck! i could do it if I wanted to.” She sighed, but the woman smiled.
“Thanks! I’m Renka, by the way. Renka Teishu,” she said before continuing sarcastically, “I mean, you’re going to find out when you write up the papers, but…I sorta owe you for this.” Rhienne nodded. “Yeah, don’t worry about it… You can call me Rhys.”
