The Chinese Prodigious and Zealous

The Chinese Prodigious is an ancient medallion hidden away in Shanghai, China. Hosted within it are eight renlings embodying different human values, allowing those that posses them to transform into their respective animals.

Guarding this Prodigious is a kaire named Mei Shi, who is tied to a magical yellow orb called a Zealous. Mei Shi will test those seeking the Prodigious, and grant those they choose the title of Renren. Renrens are given both the Prodigious and the Zealous, and are free to use the magic within.

When lacking a chosen Mei Shi will merge with his Zealous, allowing him to switch between two forms, both based on a lion. His companion form is a small kwami-like being who can easily hide and observe the world unseen. Their champion form is more humanoid, being that of a giant metallic statue built to fight.

i just watched the shanghai special so it’s time for my opinions ! if you don’t know where to find it, here is the link to the website i used :) 

MASSIVE SPOILERS

• can they stop. i’m not even kidding anymore. it’s pissing me off how creepy they’re making mari. and i’m coming for the writers in this mini-rant, because it’s annoying me so much. they could have easily made it so mari wanted to go to shanghai because she wanted to learn about her culture, and adrien happened to be there too. there was no reason to have it like that. it was making me so sad how her uncle/mum/dad were all so excited for her to learn about china, but the only reason she went was because she wanted to see adrien. it’s obsessive, it’s creepy, and they should not be promoting that behaviour to kids. 

• it bothers me how they’re styling the akumatized versions of east asian characters. i hated furious fu’s design, and don’t even get me started on silver fan man (the akumatized guy in the special, i can’t remember his name). why does there need to be some form of chinese written on them?? it’s just weird.

now, onto the good things! 

• despite the problems i had with it, i really loved it. i definitely prefer it over the new york special. 

• I LOVED THE PRODIGOUS STORYLINE. OHMYGOD. it was so fucking cool. when fei transformed i got goosebumps, i swear to god. i can’t wait to see if they bring it into any future episodes and/or specials! 

• marifei anyone...? the bike scene was fruity thats all im saying 

• WHEN CHAT ‘DIED’ I LOST IT OH MY GOD 

• can adrien and mari get over themselves. everyone thinks you guys are dating. THERES A REASON FOR THAT. stupid idiots. i love them. 

• we were so stupid for thinking we were gonna get a marichat scene. how dare they tease us like that. so rude. (but it’s okay, because marifei <3) 

• i love fei. she’s so fucking cool and i have the biggest crush on her. i loved her storyline and i really want to see more of her in future episodes and specials! 

• can gabriel just give up. bruh. he keeps getting beat by a two kids with magic jewellery. what an L.

So, I’m not really sure if you’ve been asked this or have already made something on it, but have you got any headcanon info/lore on the Prodigious, the Renlings, and Mei Shi? If not what kind of info would you make? Especially on the powers and abilities the Prodigous and the Renlings (and maybe Mei Shi) would offer? Because considering how Nooroo went off so much on how powerful the Prodigious is I imagine it would’ve offered more to go with what we got in the Shanghai special.

I do have quite a few headcaons and OCs based around the Prodigious, though it has been a while since I've talked about them or fully drawn them all out. Some of them will have an important role in this AU though, actually! :)

So for beings like Mei Shi I have given them the name of "kaire" (combination of yōkai and fairy), and I have 5 OC kaires, each embodying an element (water, air, earth, fire, wood) with Mei Shi embodying metal (these elements are a combination of the western four elements and the five elements of Wu Xing).

I actually have most of my art done for my kaires for quite a while now, I just haven't posted because I haven't finished their champion forms (the equivalent of the statue form Mei Shi takes on in the special) or my OC renlings for them. Maybe I'll finish them up soon if people are interested.
