It is me, again! NOW with the "ask". XD I was reading your "theory" regarding Azazel!Dean and a thought "came to me": What if AU!Cas is human and a "hunter" (probably a rebel in the AU) and he is tracking down his HUSBAND (AU!Dean BUT we don't know the identity yet)? It is just a thought, but I would LOVE to see they putting that Cas and Dean ARE MARRIED in the AU (too), I think it could be a way to show that they belong together no matter where they are! What do you think?
I mean my Destiel shippy heart would love this so much but I don’t think they’d go this strong tbh. Not just yet but hey who knows? Also I would prefer just epic Cas himself exposition tbh :)
I think far more likely and what I’ve hoped for all season is for au cas to have fallen anyway because he loves humanity (for real) and be protecting them BUT he’s kind of miserable because he doesnt have his reward, Dean. So it shows he would do what he did anyway because he is who he is, but he wouldn’t have his happy ending without Dean. I think it’s so important to show he is still him and would make these decisions if he could even without Dean, I think it’s really important to emphasise that his whole story doesn’t revolve around Dean. Dean is the catalyst but he has his own story. An AU where Dean isn’t born or has been taken away could help do this.
OR what I would also love is to see him still an Angel and fighting for Michael but absolutely hating it, being reprogrammed all the time and generally showing this isn’t what he would choose if he could and had the catalyst of Dean to allow him that switch flicking moment to rebel and enough that he couldn’t be reprogrammed again.
Either way the point being the AU is showing us the choices Cas would make if he could, which is entirely what an AU is for. Honestly the first thing I thought when I saw AU in 12x23 was OMG WHAT COULD THIS EXPOSE FOR CAS’ STORY ARC ALL THE POSSIBILITIES!! He is such a closed off character, there’s so much contention over people’s interpretation of what he wants, an AU could absolutely solidify this if they so wished.
TL;DR yes I love the idea of Destiel exposition through the AU but I really don’t think we would get that and all season I’ve been wringing my hands like *but when are we gonna get AU CAS ALREADY?!* and well I haven’t given up hope yet, let’s see, I’m far more interested in what an AU Cas would reveal about him in himself than just regarding Dean. We have enough of that in the normal universe these days lbr ;) Anyway Dean is just a part of Cas’ story so they could absolutely do this but I’d far rather see the wider context of Cas’ story, his desires, his wants, who he would be if he was just given the CHOICE.
