This hedgehog was brought into the centre recently after being taken to a local veterinary practice. The vets referred her to us and Emma gave her a thorough checkup. Sadly, the poor hog had a broken mandibular symphysis (the connection between the two sides of the lower jaw) and needed surgery. After anaesthetising the hedgehog, Emma carefully cleaned and realigned the two pieces of bone before sewing them together with strong suture material. This will be removed once the two sections of the jaw have healed! The hedgehog was moved into one of our incubators to recover, and we all have our fingers crossed for a full recovery
