Welcome to Daily Animals! A blog where I write about animals that sparked my interest!
Today's topic is...
Crested Gecko Morphs!
Crested geckos are arguably one of, if not the most popular reptile on the hobby for begginers. They are adorable and (in relation to to other reptiles) on the easier spectrum in the care department. One of the reasons of their popularity and a deciding factor in choosing your gecko is their morph, basically their color pattern!
I'm passionate about crested geckos, as it was my first reptile and what brought me more into the hobby and community. Today I want to dedicate a post to this specific topic!
Morphs
The morph names are patternless, bicolor, brindle, tiger, flame, harlequin, extreme harlequin, axanthic, dalmatian and lilly white. Here are the photos correspodning to each!
Disclaimer: I honestly from the bottom of my heart would explain how genetics work but I CANNOT work it out and I read that much of the avaible information is more of a speculation than scientific research so for clarity I won't try to piece together anything 😛.
Patternless
Photo from MorphMarket
One color on the entire body with minimum/no other colors.
Bicolor
Two colors, usually: one on the back going from the head to the tail, second on the rest of the body.
Brindle
(Usually darker) jagged markings over a lighter color on the rest of the body. The markings are more broken/scattered/faint than on the Tiger morph.
Tiger
Source
More distinguished, fairly continous stripe pattern on the back and sides.
Flame
Flame crested geckos will have a base colour with a lighter colour along the dorsal. Flames will show little to no pattern on their laterals or limbs. Flames display one base color and one color on the dorsum. The dorsum strip is broken by the base color.
Harlequin
Source
Harlequin is when the pattern is distributed from the ventral side (belly) of a crested gecko up towards the dorsum. When the pattern exceeds the mid-lateral line, we generally call these Extreme Harlequins.
Axhanthic
Source
Axanthic is a crested gecko that is unable to create yellow pigment. Yellow pigment usually makes the tails of a gecko cream colour. Geckos such as this display only black, blue, white, grey and silver colouring.
Lilly White
Source
A Lilly White crested gecko is a high white crested gecko. The tail will be solid white from the base to the tip with no breakage when looking at the tail from a top view and the eyes will be a silvery grey colour.
Lily white geckos are the most likely to be born with neurological/physical issues or die prematurely. Ethical breeders discourage breeding Lilly Whites with other Lilly Whites.
Dalmatian
The Dalmatian trait is one of the most distinguished features a crested gecko can have. The unmistakable spots set these geckos apart. Most often they're black, but can be red, brown, and even green. This dominant trait passes along easily to offspring, making Dalmatians one of the easiest traits to produce.
Thank you for reading! There are more minor mixes but there is so many it wouldn't fit into one post!

(if there is no source the photo is from morph market)
Footnote: Despite lovinf crested geckos I never really got into the morph stuff. After alk this I still don't know what morph my gecko was, I guess a mix of a few. I would put more but there's a photo limit :(

I'm just wondering... When has the response of "Throw lots of people with guns at it" ever worked out in this series? I know dinosaurs need a source of iron in their diet, but they can probably find an easier way of doing this... That apartment seems a teensy bit crowded... If you dont end up shooting each other, you might just suffocate on the rising testosterone levels. D'awwww It's a baby! Look how adorable it is! It's... Yea... How did you fit in those pipes? What were you sharing those pipes with? ...Dont snakes have noses on their tongues? OH YOU POOR SNAKE NO WONDER YOU WANTED TO EAT THAT CHILD. THE TASTE OF POOP AND DRAIN FLUID CAN ONLY BE WASHED AWAY BY THE TASTE OF CHILDREN.
Abby, darling. Wasnt that snake hiding in the plumbing? It's wrapped around your arms. You have a... you know what, never mind. Aha! clever girl! When in doubt, delegate poop smelling snake duties to the other two. Please, by the love of all things holy, wash your hands before having your tea break...
