Mama Murphy willingly gets kidnapped by that raider gang in the Corvega plant. Preston & Sturges seek out help in Diamond City (since the Minutemen are still trying to gain footholds. It's a long tough process), ask the local detective for back up and sure enough run into Echo :D Who turns out is working for Nick lmao The whole "oh yea she snapped a deathclaw's neck after helping us fight a raider gang" is definitely brought up.
This is like... an eventual sequel to my Sanctuary Hills fic because I have not decided when Preston gets to know Echo's big secret of being a psyker yet. And there are some background pieces I'm still debating on too...

Sometimes it's the absolutely hardest part about a fic. Other times I just go "yep that song title is perfect" Depends on the fic lmao
Echo prefers rifles (Hemlock and Heartbreaker) but will use pistols if she can't be long distance.
Nova meanwhile likes being up close and personal. She'll go up to bat swinging but tends to accidentally break her uh weapons... when that happens though she's fine with using her fists and flaming powers lol
Alice (whisper) pretends to use guns, but prefers to just... explode peoples heads with her psyker powers. Hates fighting bots because she can't just... explode their heads.
Barclay hates fighting and will use his psyker abilities to confuse the hell out of enemies before riding away on an invisible motorcycle.
NoOne is a sharp shooter and prefers pistols. She doesn't mind rifles, but hates the kickback.
W: What job does your OC do in the Wastes?
Echo used to work as a merchant/merc with NoOne until they went their separate ways in Sanctuary. While NoOne continued to be a hired gun, Echo assisted Codsworth in finding Nora (the sole survivor) and then accidentally stumbled her way into finding Nick Valentine. Echo's been assisting as a detective since. She's really good at finding lost things and people.
Nova goes from a bouncer to becoming a glass blower! She's always wanted to blow glass especially since she's immune to the heat and loves how pretty glass is.
After wandering, scrapping stuff and finding old holotapes, Barclay is able to do his dream of being a radio host! He has shifts for the Minutemen once the Castle is taken back.
Alice (whisper) is a runner for the Railroad (White Rabbit) and while it doesn't exactly pay much, she does enjoy the drama going on AND it gives her both food and a roof over her head so like she's chilling.

NoOne loves most alcohols. She won't turn it down if offered, but don't try to give her beer she will judge you.
Nova also loves most alcohols however she is currently banned from drinking any in Goodneighbor (you sneeze fire one time) She does love a good Nuka Cherry though!
Barclay prefers anything that'll keep him hydrated. Purified water. Any hot tea. He has to be very careful with his voice after all!
Alice (whisper) does love a good hubflower tea as does Echo. She will also silently judge your alcohol preferences.
R: Where does your OC live? Why?
NoOne & Nova live in Goodneighbor. Nova because her ghoulfriends live there. NoOne because its one of the few places that's chill about ghouls and well... easy to make money in.
Echo lives in Diamond City. Best fuckin place for her to sleep man. That place used to be a baseball diamond. Do you know how hard it is to find a place that isn't drenched in depressing energy in the wastes when you're plagued by visions of the past? Very fuckin hard. She can and will fight Moe Cronin about baseball. Nick only drags her away sometimes.
Danny lives in the Institute... against his will. He's stuck there. He would like out eventually please.
Alice lives in a uh... location. (Daytona House) with Gecko & Opera while helping move around packages for the railroad.
T: What in canon character is your OC most similar to? Was this intentional, or not?
Oh, that's a bit tough. NoOne is kinda similar to Raul in a sense since they're both sharp shooting prewar ghouls. They definitely hit it off while NoOne still went by Courier Six and they shit talked about smooth skins while drinking gin or rum or whatever they got their hands on.
Barclay is a bit like Deacon and a mixture of Travis Miles in there now that I'm like thinking about it.... Though being compared to Deacon is absolutely something I intended cause like Echo is the younger sister and claimed Deacon as her brother because he reminded her so much of Barclay lmao

i’m gonna answer these for Arais because she’s who i feel like talking about.
2: their smile
Arais’ smile is usually very subtle. her resting face is perpetually sad, and when she smiles, it just a subtle curve upward. her eyes are the most expressive feature on her face. you’ll see her smile more there than on her lips. the silver seems to almost glow, just a bit, even when she’s hardly smiling at all. it’s rare to see her smile with teeth showing. her happiness is very muted, but it’s obvious to those who know her well.
4: their insecurities
she is very susceptible to feeling like she never does anything right. she does her best to be merciful, but if anyone dies as a result of something she does, she beats herself up over it. she can’t handle anyone being hurt because of her. and she doesn’t cope well, so when she reaches a breaking point, she shuts down entirely.
she’s also very critical of her magic. she works herself to the bone to be as precise as possible. she’s constantly studying, and if she doesn’t pick up something immediately, she gets frustrated. her first spell was winter’s grasp, so she picked up primal magic pretty quickly. except earth magic, and she’s studying it well into her twenties, still trying to master it, even though she accidentally causes damage to her surroundings with misfired stonefists and causing an earthquake when she meant to petrify that wolf, Maker curse it all.
and, finally, she is clumsy as hell. when she’s performing magic, she’s graceful as a ballerina, but take away her staff and she trips over her own feet. Zevran learned this the hard way teaching her how to dance.
6: how they deal with grief
unresponsive shut down. she’ll be silent as the grave, won’t speak a word to anyone, and shuts herself away in her tent. she’s like a zombie, moving with no real purpose. it takes someone very close to her just sitting with her and talking until they can reach through to her empathy to pull her out of it. ultimately, her compassion will always overpower her depression, and after a lot of tlc (usually from Zevran, before Teagan enters the picture), she’s back to her old self. just with a bit more baggage.
8: what they like to eat
she loves spicy food. when it was Zevran’s turn to cook when they set up camp, he would use Antivan spices he managed to procure during their travels (and he never ran out of, somehow), though she suspected he only did it for her and Morrigan, since they were the only ones who didn’t complain about the food the first time he made it.
she also loves fruit. strawberries and pomegranates are her favorites, but she’ll eat any citrus you put in front of her (Alistair winced when she would eat grapefruit without the sugar he liked to add to it).
really, the only food you couldn’t get her to eat was mushrooms, if she had a choice. she doesn’t like the texture.
10: their fashion sense
lol, what fashion sense? she was entirely hopeless without Leliana (and Zevran, to an extent). she just stuck to mage robes (and her Warden robes) until she was forced to attend formal gatherings. and then her personal maids in Redcliffe took over for Leliana. as long as it was (any shade of) blue, lavender, or dark purple, she didn’t care what it looked like.
12: their romantic life
complicated, until she married Teagan. she had a thing in the Circle with Anders (REGRET), but it never went beyond fwb, and it was short lived, because she ended it the first time he tried to escape, because why are you being such an idiot, you selfish asshole?
then her thing with Alistair started after she found out he was Maric’s son, and she wasn’t sure where it would go, but she loved him. then he left after she recruited Loghain, and it was just another lover she later decided was too selfish to give another chance. that took years, though.
when she first started having feelings for Teagan, and pursuing that (off and on in her own mind), she felt it was clandestine from the start. she didn’t think it would go anywhere, and part of her (at the time) was still sure she would find Alistair some day. but when Teagan confirmed Eamon was stepping down as arl and he would take his place, she finally confessed she wasn’t sure it would work.
then he was like, “lol, fuck tradition, i love you,” and they were engaged like two weeks later.
but then Zevran and Teagan had been getting closer since the Blight ended and she was comatose, and after what they thought was harmless flirting and the miscarriage, that comes to a head and they realize it’s more than just harmless flirting. at this point they both knew the other loved Arais, but Zevran wasn’t going to pursue it.
when you don’t stop loving the woman you’ve been pining after for over two years and you’re suddenly also in love with her husband, though, something’s gotta give.
then it gets complicated again, because Teagan is like, “if we’re going to do anything, you need to tell her how you feel about her, too.” and then she and Zevran are going to Kirkwall together, and it never feels like the right time, but then there is a right time, and since Teagan had already basically said, “if something happens, it’s fine, we’ll cross that bridge if/when we get to it.”
so she and Zevran basically agree there’s something there, and how it culminates i haven’t decided yet, but when they get back to Redcliffe, Zevran seamlessly enters the marriage, as if it’s always been that way, they even have an official ceremony with Mother Hannah, so Zevran is able to rule with them. he chooses to use his assassin training to bolster the guard, but he has the ability to make decisions, when necessary.
14: how they react to burning their tongue on food
she honestly just gets annoyed, because food tastes different until it heals, but otherwise she doesn’t give a shit.
16: their dreams
she just wants her family back. it ends up being impossible with Seona, because she was in the mage underground with Anders and when he’s killed, she tells her sister to fuck off and disappears. Ayden, though, she does get back, though he’s stationed in Amaranthine with the Wardens there or in Kirkwall with Merrill.
and then she just wants to have a family with Teagan and Zevran, which she gets, even if the timing ends up being garbage because of the mage rebellion, the Venatori, and the Rifts opening all over the damned place.
18: how they sleep
she’s been a restless sleeper ever since she was taken away when her magic manifested. it got better over the years, but then she went through her Harrowing and it got bad again.
it fluctuated a lot. it would get better, and then she’d go through something that made it bad again. the Joining, the entire Blight, the coronation, and the wedding all triggered restlessness.
she barely slept for months after the miscarriage. when she did sleep, she would see what she would later learn was her mother’s spirit.
and then the Venatori and rifts happened.
Arais never gets to sleep well unless she’s sick, basically.
20: their reaction to a mystery love letter
in a word: why?? she doesn’t like that kind of attention and not knowing who it’s coming from. she barely likes it when she does, because she’s not entirely sure how to handle it.
22: what they're like on two hours of sleep
not all that different than usual. she’s pretty used to it. she’s crankier, but she mostly just channels that into her magic. she doesn’t take it out on people unless she’s in a really bad place.

24: what motivates them
i know i’ve said this a lot, but mercy, compassion, and empathy. she wants to save as many people as possible. she wants to make people happy. she often does this at the expense of her own self care. Zevran, Leliana, and Wynne have to constantly remind her to do something for herself every once in a while to maintain her sanity.
they’re the ones who do it nicely.
Morrigan and Sten are like, “please stop for like two seconds and be selfish for fuck’s sake.” Sten more so after she finds Asala.
