2 songs: “American Idiot” by Green Day and “Stupid Girls” by Pink.
Both of these songs are expressing how one part of society has changed and they don’t support it.
“Stupid Girls” by Pink!, talks about how girls use their body to gain the male population’s attention. They do this by over-doing their make-up constantly, using push-up bras to attract the men, and acting a certain way to gain their attention. Taken from the song, “What happened to the dreams of a girl president, She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent”, this shows how a girl has lost her dream to be successful and lost it to social media. Pink!’s song suggests that she doesn’t support this behavior and wishes girls thrived on independence, strength and bettering themselves to be looked at as a stupid girl.
“American Idiot” by Green Day expresses how they don’t want to be apart of the nonsense they see happening in this country. They use terms such as media and television and relate them to how society is misguided by these two. The media propaganda can presude people to think a different thing by only showing certain images, broadcasting specific topics and using a political side to run their media forces. This songs talks about how people have changed based on what he media portrays and that they don’t support that change.
Both of these songs suggest that the uprising of news and social media has presented a change in our society and both artists do not support that change. Pink!’s song falls under the entertainment contract and does do a good job at making the song easy to understand and fun to play along with. She is in disbelief about what attracts young girls to act a certain way. On the other hand, “American Idiot” can be viewed by some as offensive and some might to see things the same way; thus leading it to the persuasion contract.
