Supernatural is off of Netflix (and someone said TNT, too, but I can't confirm that myself)
It is now on Amazon and Peacock.
My question is, what does that do to the actors' residuals? Did they only get those on over the air (and would TNT not having them hurt?) Or does the new streaming pretty much take up the slack?
Might the whole thing change if WB is bought by Netflix?
Actors don't get residuals from streaming, that was one of the big motivators for the 2023 strike. It makes very little difference in the actors' residual pocketbooks when Supernatural left Netflix other than increased exposure and higher profiles at conventions. It's conventions where most actors make their real money.
All actual residuals decrease over time because the rates are usually based upon the performer receiving decreasing fractions of their initial payments even after the amounts reach cents per episode. Once TNT decreases airtime for SPN reruns or stops all together, then the residuals are drastically reduced or runs out. You can bore yourself and how residuals are calculated and paid out here.
Once Netflix and WB merge, then Netflix's business model will continue offer generous upfront fees for A listers but reduce profit participation and residuals for actors, directors, and their agents.
