Meditating or mindfulness techniques don’t work for me is that anyone else or am I just wild
This..
I always get a burning need to create after watching films that steal my heart.
Moving forward with patience.
Note: This is an old post from more than two years ago that I wrote on an old blog. It's still very fitting today and probably the very reason why I loved the Jeep Super Bowl commercial so much. One of my biggest fears in life? Getting stuck.
You see, I’m not a creature of habit- I like change, a challenge, new surroundings. I’m not somehow who likes to stay in one place- I like forward movement, to travel, to see and experience new things (that is probably the military brat in me).
After being in the real world for more than two years now, I often wish that I was someone who was more content. I wish I could settle in the same job for the next twenty years, buy a cute little house to last a lifetime and live in the same place where my friends and family live. I often envy those who live, work and raise a family in the exact same town where they grew up- who don’t seek change- and are happy. I’m not saying those who are happy without change are stuck- but for me, that just isn’t who I am. I envy those who can be so content.
This real world thing has taught me that I must be patient. Yes, to not freak out when I’m feeling a little cornered in this life. I’m not stuck just because I’ve been at the same job for years or because I haven’t packed up and moved across the country (yet). When you graduate from college life kicks in- responsibility, bills, family affairs, etc. These things make it much harder to just live life on a complete whim.
This is what I am learning though…
More than ever I realize I am stuck the day that I settle. The day that I wake up and realize that I’m living a mediocre life and convince myself that is happiness- that’s the day I’m stuck. The real world, unfortunately, has made me a little more practical. Sure, the world is still at my fingertips still- but this life can’t be lived on a complete whim. I have to plan. I have to push. I have to try a little harder to move forward sometimes.
No one ever warned me how hard it was to be a free spirit in a practical world- but I’ll find that balance and I’ll keep moving forward. Here’s to pushing on, challenging myself and refusing to accept anything but forward movement. Life, I’m completely convinced, is way too short to be at a standstill… I just have to find a little more patience to move forward in little increments.
Just Dance
I have been restless. I am certain I have mentioned this.
Add my ADD to this restlessness and you can imagine how things have been around here.
Pick up a word game – halfway through I ditch it.
Start a project, leave it unfinished, start a new project.
