exploration records - memories of a certain disciple (9-10)
9 - Terzette
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
In the Vriksha Forest of Grand Gaia, it was a warm day. There was sunlight and chirping birds in a small open space among the trees. The members of Terzette - Restoc, Nigel, Faber, Olivia, and their close friend Sharon, are enjoying a break in between their missions. It was a peaceful time. Smiles, trust, and respect flowed in abundance. They chatted casually in a relaxed atmosphere. Restoc, the former disciple who was now living as a human, was the happiest he had ever been in his life. The only regret he has is that eventually he will have to say goodbye due to the difference in their lifespans.
Terzette had come to Vriksha after hearing about the appearance of a demon. There normally would be no time for conversation, but they hadn't come across anything. However, there would be a price to pay for this carelessness. The demon was so skilled at concealing its presence that even the experienced Terzette were unable to notice it. The only exception was Restoc, who was able to sense its attack at the final moment.
Its sharp horns tear towards Nigel, and without thinking, Restoc pushed him out of the line of fire. Even with his skills, he was unable to completely block the attack, and the demon's horns pierce Restoc's palm. He grabbed the horn with his other hand, and utilized the pause to commence battle. Not wasting a moment, Nigel and Olivia attacked, while Faber utilized the crossfire to aim his cannon. The God Slayer Crossbow landed a fatal attack on the demon. The battle ended quickly. They were all undoubtedly strong - which might have been why they had let their guard down.
While recieving first aid on his hand, Restoc thought about how he had instinctively protected Nigel. He had decided to live as a human, but still didn't understand his own actions. He hadn't even thought about what he was doing before he pushed his friend out of the way. A beautiful story - a perfect example of friendship. He gradually became horrified of how dramatically he had changed. Maybe he was an entirely different being now. He felt the gap between his past and present selves. In his head, his past self was criticizing him, calling him a Fallen God.
10 - Arturia
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
Ever since the incident in Vriksha Forest, Restoc felt as though he had been split in two. His current self as a human, and his past self as a disciple. Restoc the disciple was dead, and he was haunting Restoc the human. Every time he did something, there was a whisper in his ear of how a disciple should have done it. It would have driven any human mad. Or maybe he had already lost his mind, and was having auditory hallucinations.
Was insanity the price he had to pay for pretending to be human? Or had he simply been wearing a mask for so long that he had forgotten what the real him was? Restoc asked these questions over and over again. On the surface he appeared to be the same as before, chatting idly with Nigel and Faber. It was a strange sensation, as if two souls were in one body. Restoc believed that the person he was trying to be was an extension of his true self, and he had worked hard for it. His past was nothing but an illusion that he must dispel.
A year passed, and Restoc was still tormented, although he still shows no sign of it. His close friends probably never imagined he was struggling with such things - after all, they didn't even know he wasn't human.
Terzette was given the task of investigating Arturia. Thanks to Sharon's efforts (her wheedling<3), all three squads would be going. However, Nigel wouldn't be going, as he was on a mission in Azcastelli (that lugina dragged him to<3). His younger brother, the lieutenant, became acting commander of their squad. This was a common occurance.
There was no danger whatsoever in the ruins of Arturia. The members of Terzette were in a good mood, and went about their duties as if they were sightseeing. This had happened before - Restoc remembered their carelessness in the Vriksha Forest. The ghost of the disciple's voice grew louder. Sharon continues to investigate the artifacts. They appear to be a device that calculates the coordinates of unknown other worlds. Combined with her portable gate generator, it would allow them to go literally anywhere. This power would surpass that of even Lucius.
The past Restoc whispers that if the current Restoc is rumored to be the reincarnation of the Legendary Summoner, then summoning the Divine Ten should be easy. In other words, he should be more powerful than the gods. If he could obtain the pwoer to travel between worlds, he might even be able to surpass the summoner favored by Tilith. Then it would be possible to carry out Karna Masta's final order. Humanity could be destroyed.
Why did he ever pretend to be human? Why would he ever live among them? What was the purpose of this? The means had replaced the ends. Of course, he had known this for a long time, and had accepted it. But his ghost kept whispering.
The other members of the corps also seemed to understand that the discovery of this artifact meant that humans had surpassed Lucius' powers. One of them said, jokingly, "The age of the Gods has come to an end!".
It made him angry, and the laughter of his comrades only dug in deeper. No - it's you humans who are done here.
He tried to contain his rising fury. He had used his will as a human to overcome his past, but his ghost laughs at him, saying that without borrowed powers, humans would never stand against the gods. That couldn't be true - the heroes of the God War resisted the Divine Army with their own strength. What good had it been, though? Every single person left in Grand Gaia had died. The divisions of Restoc's will fight - the human versus the disciple. But Restoc was never human to begin with. He isn't human.
Certainly, the power of humans may exceed that of the gods, but the power of those who pretend to be human certainly can't. (? why?)
The god who wanted to be human - Restoc is dead.
The being standing before them was not the Restoc that Terzette knew. This was the disciple of the God Emperor, Karna Masta. He had finally regained his true self, had mastered summoning, had surpassed humanity. He would eradicate man from every world, and restart the Age of the Gods anew.

7 - Elgaia's Prosperity
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
After losing his master, Restoc had no direction in life. He only had the God Emperor's last order: to have humanity destroyed. However, he had no way to fight against summoning. Ashamed, he stands in his one true home: the tower. It's been vandalized during his absence, he realizes, and his anger only grows.
Man has surpassed God. How? Being immortal, he has plenty of time to think about it. He realizes that the human who had wounded him was wearing armor that the gods had forged, and that the human who had killed his master was using gods as tools. They use what their enemies create, or their enemies themselves, as the source of their strength. To combat this, he mused, was to use the power of humans. He remembered that when he was in Mistral, they had thought of him as one of them. They couldn't tell that he was a disciple.
He decides that his top priority was to learn more about humans in Elgaia. He passes through the Gate of Lucius, and immediately notices a change in himself. Restoc thought of the La Veda knight who defeated him, and Will manifested before him as a unit. It appeared that he was able to use summoning magic. It was easy for him! No advanced techniques or magic were required at all. While he stands there, stunned, a human approaches him and warns that using summoning is forbidden here. For a moment, he considered using the knight to kill the human, but then quickly decided to heed the warning. Now wasn't the time. In order to become proficient with summoning, he must study how others use it. After all, that's what a human would do.
--The humans were so kind, it was almost ridiculous. They showed him the way to Randall, and then the location of Akras Summoning Hall. They also didn't forget to explain what Akras was, and he became a novice summoner.
The prosperity of Imperial Capital Randall surpassed that of any city that had been established in Grand Gaia. Restoc considered the fact that humans built this without the favor of the gods, and felt a sense of awe. He was a bit ashamed of the fact that he had never doubted that god was superior to man. The ability to do great things within a short lifespan and pass things on to descendants was what made humans great, Restoc considered. (wrong.) Just as dry earth absorbs water, he continues to learn many things from humans.
8 - 23rd Demon Slayer Squad Sky Garden
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
Restoc met a man in Akras' Arena who called himself Lugina, and he left a strong impression with his unintelligent expression and vulgar language. However, he quickly realizes that it was a deliberate facade designed to elicit a reaction, and that in reality, he's extremely intelligent. (wrong!) Lugina seemed to understand what Restoc was thinking, and recruited the novice summoner into his squad. (extremely loaded sentence that is probably also wrong. i <3 you unreliable narrator) There's a possibility that he would be able to see that Restoc wasn't human, so to avoid this, the latter decided to further suppress his power as a disciple.
The Demon Slayers were originally units assembled to defeat demons who came from Ishgria, but now it simply serves as the elite of Akras. Among them, the Sky Garden is one of the best. There was a man named Nigel in the same squad, and since he seemed to like Restoc, he started to talk to him in a friendly manner and tried to join him in various activities. It was clear what Nigel wanted - friendship. In order to act like a human, Restoc accepted this and decided to play the role of a comrade. He also became close with Nigel's younger brother, Faber, and his childhood friend, Olivia.
-Reinvestigation of the world of Rokkzalm. During his time with the Sky Garden, he came close to death many times, even as a disciple. The power of the God Emperor was meaningless to the fierce warriors of another world. For the first time, he learned the meaning of the word "comrade". The feeling he had for Nigel and the others was genuine friendship. He no longer needed to pretend to be human. (extremely loaded sentence!!!!!) He was able to speak, smile and think like one. Nigel, Faber, Olivia, and Sharon, the engineer providing support, were Restoc's friends.
Restoc was aware that Olivia had feelings for him. He also knew that Nigel was aware of this and had stepped back to give them space. However, they avoided talking about it simply because he didn't want to strain their friendship. Their relationship now was comfortable, and he didn't want to ruin it. It was a very human way of thinking. Restoc realized this one night, and laughed at himself, marvelling at how human he had become.
When he had found out that Karna Masta had been killed, his pride as a disciple had been shattered. He had assimilated to human culture quickly and accepted himself as one of them. Unlike his friends, he would live for a long time, and he figured that once doubts began to arise about his appearance, he could simply disappear, and when the dust settled, he could change his name and rejoin the Summoners Hall.
And so he could live forever as a human. The will of the gods no longer mattered. He could live his life how he wished.

5 - The Defeat of the Gods
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
Maxwell, Cardes, and Zevalhua, members of the Divine Ten, have been defeated by a human using summoning. The only Fallen Gods left are Afla Dilith and Lucius, who remains hidden and is using humans as his pawns. In Restoc's eyes, the battle was already over. He was correct - Afla Dilith was killed soon after that.
At this point, he finally noticed that Lucius had been carefully executing his schemes since long before the God War. With his power of controlling the gates, Lucius had allowed dangerous beings to invade Grand Gaia multiple times. By doing this, he had allowed humans to advance their technology and weaponry. Then he had killed all other high ranking gods who were friendly towards humans, and had the other gods realize that humans were a threat. The God War had been intentionally started by Lucius. He also ordered the humans under his command to attack Karna Masta. Of course, it was impossible to kill him, but he was able to create an opening in this way. He was able to banish Karna Masta to another world and become humanity's savior by leading them to Elgaia.
His plot was successful, but he was wounded by one of his disciples, the Oracle Knight, and had to spend some time recovering. Although he had made some miscalculations, his plan was successful, and Lucius had become the only god left in Grand Gaia. But he was also killed by the same humans that he had used as pawns. Restoc had scoffed - it was a fitting end for a foolish god.
He now had hope - the God Emperor was alive and well. All he had to do was rescue him from Ishgria. And so Restoc set out from the Grand Gaia Seal to Ishgria, the banished land of the gods.
6 - The Corrupted Land of Ishgria
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
Restoc believed that Ishgria was an ugly world without a shred of beauty. A demon appeared before him, and it was clear that it was not an opponent that could be cut down with one blow. From his words and actions, it was clear that fighting was his only goal. Restoc decided that there was no need to engage him, and shamelessly turn and ran. The demon pursued more persistently than expected, but eventually gave up.
The God Emperor was a being so powerful that even demons feared him, and it should have been easy to locate his presence. Restoc knew this, and was getting impatient. It was clear that Karna Masta had wielded his power here, but Restoc could not sense him. As far as he knew, demons would never work together on anything, and it should have been impossible for any of them to defeat the God Emperor. So did he travel to another world? Maybe.
Feeling that he lacked knowledge of other worlds, Restoc returned home and visited the Library of the Gods - a place beyond the reach of humans, a place of wisdom where only gods may enter. There, he researched Ishgria and worlds that could be reached from there.
He learned that Ishgria was a dead end. Without a power like Lucius', the only way to reach it was through Grand Gaia. (boring!!!!! and also untrue iirc) So either Karna Masta was dormant in Ishgria, or he was dead.
When Restoc entered Ishgria again, he felt that something was off. He had not intended to stay in the library for that long, but the presence of power in this world had changed drastically. The demon who demands fights has also not appeared. Something must have happened.
Restoc cut up a nearby low-level demon without killing it in order to learn what was going on. (so torture. ok) He hears the unbelieveable tale of how the human that killed Lucius also killed Karna Masta while he was sealed away. He travels to the sealed island, senses the remnants of power there, and confirms that the words of the demon are true. There was something that shocked him even more than the fact that his master was dead, or that humans were able to do it. The human had summoned a god in the battle with Karna Masta. Who would have thought that they would have been used as mere tools? The world that Restoc had believed in had collapsed silently. Loss and despair rule him now.

3 - Fallen Gods' Rebellion
Drifting in Avelhein, someone's memories flow.
Restoc had been seriously injured in the God War and had only recently awoke from a long slumber. He went around asking fairies and spirits about what he missed, and was shocked at the response. They said that all humans were exterminated, which was planned, and that the god Lucius had disappeared, which was not. Restoc was pleased by this, as he had disliked Lucius' reign in place of Karna Masta.
The only gods remaining in Grand Gaia were Maxwell, Cardes, Zevalhua, and Afla Dilith. Restoc was surprised and confused at how strong the human resistance was to have taken down many of the Divine Ten. Perhaps they should have been destroyed sooner. At this time, Restoc had misunderstood the idea that only four of the Divine Ten remained. He had never even considered that the God Emperor was not in peak condition. When he found out, he felt as if his world had been destroyed.
It was also shocking to find out that the four remaining gods were fighting among themselves to take the place of the God Emperor. No one knows where Karna Masta is or what happened to him. In his disappointment, Restoc decides to call the remaining gods the Four Fallen Gods. The conflict between them was fierce, causing lava to erupt in some places and ice storms to occur in others. Grand Gaia had lost its former beauty.
The Fallen Gods had contacted Restoc through their followers in an attempt to add him to their ranks, but he ignored them, continuing to search for information about Karna Masta. He was unable to find the answers he was looking for, but did learn a bit about Lucius. He had fallen by the hands of humans, like Restoc, and was sleeping to recover his strength. He would wake up eventually, and the Four Fallen Gods would become Five. It didn't matter to Restoc.
4 - Summoner
Drifting in Avelhein, someone's memories flow.
While wandering Grand Gaia in search of Karna Masta, Restoc hears a strange rumor. It was said that humans had been spotted in Mistral. Maybe they had stubbornly survived somewhere, or a foolish god had favored them, but either way, it seemed like they no longer had the power they once had. That was what Restoc thought. A few decades later, he would learn that he was wrong.
Maxwell was killed. It wasn't the result of her fighting another god, but a mere human. Restoc had figured that the other Fallen Gods had used the human to kill her, but he headed to Mistral to confirm this. Sure enough, there were humans there, and by coincidence, they looked almost exactly the same as he did.
The people there spoke to him in a friendly manner, and he was able to obtain new information, such as the Gate of Lucius and the existence of Elgaia. Simply, the Fallen God Lucius had saved humans to use as his pawns, and was now sending them back into Grand Gaia. What surprised him most of all was the existence of summoning magic, which was the ability to summon the souls of the dead, give them temporary bodies, and make them fight for you. Restoc was horrified, and wondered where humans gained this ability. There was no doubt in his mind that Maxwell had been killed by summoning.
Restoc acted like a human and gained as much information as he could from the summoners. While there, he recieves the report that Cardes has been killed. The people around him cheer, but he stands alone, with his face pale as he predicts what's to come.
After that, humans step foot into Zevalhua's territory. The Fallen Gods still won't stop fighting each other, and both Maxwell and Cardes had been taken advantage of due to this. That means Zevalhua will also...

1 - eternity in grand gaia
Drifting in Avelhein, someone's memories flow.
It's beautiful here in Lizeria, with the moon rising upon this great earth. The tower is dyed crimson, and its silhouette gradually blends into the darkness of night. The sky is filled with stars, illuminating the tower. At the summit, the tower's guardian watches the stars while bathed in moonlight. As a disciple of the God Emperor, the honor of guarding this tower is near to his heart. Thousands of nights pass this way, and no one challenges the God Emperor's might. He continues watching the tower. The silence of night would continue forever.
It's beautiful here in Lizeria, with the sun rising upon this great earth. The tower is dyed crimson, and gradually its silhouette becomes visible in the dawn. The sun stands in the sky, and the tower remains tall. At the summit, the tower's guardian basks in the sunlight and gazes at the lush, green earth. The God Emperor has many disciples, and he was by no means a high ranking figure among them. However, he is filled with pride to serve such a glorious being. Thousands of mornings pass this way, and no one challenges the God Emperor's might. He continues watching the tower. The calm day would continue forever.
Every day, humans appear for what they call "pilgrimages". They come from the desert, but dare not step foot on the bridge that leads to the tower. A crowd of them pray before the bridge, and then leave. For the guardian of the tower, this is a normal day. This continued for hundreds of years. It seemed only right and just that humans offer thanks and prayers to the gods. To the guardian of the tower, it simply was another part of the world's order, a daily occurance like trees blossoming and the sun's rise and set. Humans worship the gods, and sometimes the gods reward them. These rewards brought prosperity to the human world, and they in turn filled it with more humans.
For the guardian of the tower, the rise and fall of humanity is no more important than the waves in the ocean. Their life and death were no more than bubbles on the surface of the water. He simply had no particular feelings towards them. Birds fly in the sky, fish swim in the rivers, animals run in the forest, and humans live their lives. That's all there was to it. The only difference between them and other animals is that they felt gratitude towards the gods for their creation. For the gods who live for eternity, this is just a trivial matter. Humans were creatures that were allowed to flourish. As humans keep livestock or pets, gods keep humans.
Restoc was the God Emperor's disciple and guardian of the tower. He was content to watch over his charge for eternity, ordered to remain there in case any blasphemers invaded. Such disrespect seemed impossible to him. In his long life as a disciple, he had never encountered such a thing. The reign of the Divine Ten would continue forever. As a disciple of the God Emperor, he could continue to guard the tower forever. Time would continue to march on in the wonderful world of Grand Gaia
2 - grand gaian war
Drifting in Avelhein, someone's memories flow.
At a certain point, humans began to take the grace of the gods for granted.
The passage of time is of no great concern to the gods, but it was enough for humans to become arrogant. Some gods were angry, but Restoc saw it as a change of weather, like rain or snow. People were still coming to the tower to pray, and the only difference he noticed was that some people had started to try to do business with him.
The higher gods made the decision to destroy humans. Restoc believed that the God Emperor would be able to eliminate them in one strike, but instead an army of gods was specifically assembled. This was likely to avoid bothering the God Emperor with the task of killing mere humans - or maybe a game being played by a higher god, such as play-hunting that some lower species enjoyed.
Restoc joined the Divine Army in wiping out the humans that lived in Lizeria. However, he was concerned about the fact that he had recieved no direct orders from the God Emperor. He couldn't help but feel astonished that humans had the gall to defy the God Army. What was worse was that some gods had even been defeated. Covered in blood, Restoc changed his perspective. It was right and just that the decision to eliminate humans was made. Livestock with the power to kill their masters had no reason to exist.
This metaphor was not entirely accurate. Humans couldn't live without livestock, but it makes no difference to the gods whether humans existed or not. They're now no more than unpleasant pests, and must be eradicated.
Most of the people living in Lizeria were killed. All that remained were a group that called themselves the La Veda Knights. These were the people who resisted more than expected. Anger and sadness built up in Restoc's heart as he watched other gods be defeated. They gave grace to humans, and in turn were given a chore in exterminating them. He decided that he would at least enjoy the fight.
Restoc continued to cut down the humans that called themselves knights. He knew he was called to serve the God Emperor, and no human blade was able to reach him.
He was furious facing the last human, whose name he could not remember. They were wielding weapons and armor created by the gods. It was extremely unpleasant to see such a lesser being use things meant for the divine. Perhaps anger clouded his judgement. Restoc was wounded by the last human standing in Grand Gaia. It seemed as though he would die, but instead his body went into a deep sleep to heal his injuries.
