I’ve been posting a lot about my MiSTer, and thought I should point out that the other FPGA console from the same group- the SuperStation- is currently (5/25/2026) on sale for $210.
Like the MiSTer and MiSTer Pi, this has support for all the cores for classic consoles (ranging from the Atari 2600 up to the PS1/N64/Sega Saturn), but with this sleek-ass PS1 form factor and some nice bells and whistles, like built-in WiFi, bluetooth, and support for actual PS1 controllers and memory cards. The dock they sell separately also adds a disc drive, extra USB ports, and a SNAC port so you can also hook up other real controllers for other consoles with the proper adapters.
If you have an interest in retro gaming beyond running an emulator on your computer, an FPGA console is probably the best way to go.

Retro Remake of 3D Starstrike Done by Andrew Nixon As I grew up with Atari 2600 and the Commodore family, I have a soft spot for old school games. In addition, I loved ALL Star Wars movies ... all three! Therefore I was really amazed about the fact, that Andrew has done a 3D Starstrike remake some years ago. He developed this remake over three years on his own and the final result is really convincing. Well executed, straight forward arcade gameplay like in the old days. Here’s an article about the game, including a free download link: https://stiggyblog.wordpress.com/2012/12/04/retro-remake-3d-starstrike/ It’s not his only remake - he also remade 3D Ant Attack and Highway Encounter. Furthermore he is developing iOS games. As mentioned in my last post, I’m really happy about the planned coop with Andrew and I hope that we’ll find a good way of working together. We are currently preparing all necessary things for the rebuilt in Game Maker Studio. The rebuilt could take a while, but I’m convinced that it is worth the effort.
