December Pokemon Challenge: Day 12 - Favorite Ice Type

Jynx

Okay, first off I acknowledge the criticisms of jynx have a racist design are valid, and while the purple skin is better (and my favorite color) it really doesn’t fix the problem. I will also point out her design was entirely inspired by the Yuki-onna and Yamauba so the racist characteristics are an unfortunate coincidence.

With that out of the way, my appreciation of jynx comes from my use of her. One playthrough of Crystal I happened to get a smoochum from the day care egg and decided I may as well raise it a little. Well very quickly I realized the evolution line is very powerful! High speed and massive special attack meant she was one-shotting every pokemon she was against, regardless of type advantage. I’ve only used jynx on a couple other teams, but that is partially because she is too powerful and I want a little more of a challenge. I’m not stoked with her design but I gotta admit she produces a mean Ice Beam and Psychic. She’s a great pokemon now but was even more powerful in gen 1 when there was just a “special” stat that very few pokemon could protect against. Jynx is for sure a unique special sweeper, just a little embarrassing to be a fan of.
