Senate Trial Day 3 (Thursday):
Yesterday, Democrats began making their case against Donald Trump. Most notably was Adam Schiff’s closing statement above. He makes a powerful speech about the integrity of the President and why he must be removed. Schiff lays out different scenarios of how our elections could be interfered with and states that you know Donald Trump would not call them out, but he would use the advantage. Most of all, he ends by saying that if right does not matter then we are lost. If the truth is not sought after and respected, then the constitution no longer matters, this trial no longer matters, and our country is grave danger. We cannot operate with agreement on truth.
Sadly, the Republican part has proven to us time and again that they do not care what is true or right. That they, like Donald Trump, have no desire to do what is right above their own personal interests. They are rooted in corruption and power seeking for its own sake. I have no trust that Republicans will ever do the right thing over their personal interests.
This is why our nation has come to a historical crossroads. We are not just in a fight over policy anymore, we are in a fight to save our democracy, and the freedom of our people. If we continue with a government stacked with those who value power over governance then we will degrade into something other than a constitutional republic. As time goes on, it becomes more and more clear that we need a radical change in our politics, and continuing business as usual will ruin our country.
