Pride Month Movie 8: Down Low
The only time I'd seen Zachary Quinto prior to today was in the one episode of Hannibal where Gillian Anderson shoves her first down his throat, killing him. That performance really prepared me for this film.
Down Low is a 2023 dark comedy directed by Rightor Doyle. I loved it. It's a superb blend of moments that are irreverent, hilarious, and poignant. Lukas Gage, who I also don't think I'd seen before, plays the young and unhinged masseuse counterpart to Quinto's recently out, terminally ill, middle-aged father of two (why is two the magical number of children for a gay man to have? Even Oscar Wilde had two sons. Wtf?) This was so deranged, so hilarious. It's my new favorite "first time" story.
And there's an Audra McDonald cameo at the end!
