TEASER
So, in honor of me not being normal about a game I have yet to play, that game being Mohrta because I tragically don’t own a PC (please no spoilers, I do really want to experience this properly), I have decided to wonder aloud something that I have puzzled over to myself before. How do the likes of Scumhead (Mohrta’s creator) and Lovely Hellplace (the wonderful team behind Dread Delusion go play it, it is amazing) come up with these worlds, settings, and vibes?
These games and their upcoming projects all fall under the category of vibes that I call “Weird Fiction”. If there is a proper term for it, please let me know. I ask, because I want to try and even imagine something similar and yet can’t seem to do it. There’s something so unique and inherently mind grabbing to these games and their vibes that I wish I could articulate properly. Dread Delusion initially grabbed me because I thought it looked fun, but as I played it, I became absorbed in this equal parts strange, disturbing, and fantastic world. Mohrta, from what little I have seen of it, initially grabbed me because of the gameplay I saw, but it was the vibes from the bits that I saw that put the hooks in my brain.
As I look at the future projects of these creators, I see things that fall under the same umbrella of Weird Fiction as their predecessors, but are undeniably their own thing, and I once again ask, “How do they think of these things?” I ask because the imaginations of the creators are very compelling to me for reasons that I cannot yet explain, for I do not know how.
Well, maybe one day I will get it. If you are curious about these games and want to know more, Mohrta is out on Steam, and Scumhead’s next game, Ringwyrm will be too. Dread Delusion meanwhile is out on multiple platforms and Lovely Hellplace’s next game, Entropy, is currently seemingly only coming to Steam.
