You were fucking nervous. An absolute trainwreck. No enemy made you tremble like that - but Cayde did. And you hated and loved that. He was the Vanguard of the Hunters. One of you, your leader. A very friendly and very close person who treated nearly everyone the same.

And you two had sex. Two days have passed since then. With your jittering nerves you quickly played one Crucible match after the other, trying to avoid him while your heartbeat always quickened at the thought of him. If you had to be honest, you would say that you really, really like Cayde.

But you knew he would never feel the same. You were just a quickie. A person, who he had sex with. The more time passed though, the more you felt like you had to do something. I mean, you could try it? If he had no interest, you would always and forever go on missions and never meet his eyes again, ignoring him completely. Yeah, you could do that, you thought to yourself and nodded.

Your little mobile device which was connected with Ghost and just recently came out laid before you. Ghost directed a light towards your desk where some letters were shown, which you could use to type. You just had to fucking click on the letters with your finger on your desk! It was not difficult! But still your hands hovered over the light keyboard.

“Screw it”, you whispered to yourself and began to tipe away. Quickly you formed one sentence, then the other and another one. Before you could stop, you quickly pressed on send. Your heartbeat was echoing loudly in your ears. You felt like you would combust.

“I don’t know if I was just a quickie for you or something more, Cayde. It drives me insane to not know it. I really like you.”

Just some quick sentences, nothing major.

A second passed, then a minute and then some more. With each minute your hope began to dim. Your heartbeat was normal again, but you felt an ache in your chest like you never felt before. You did not react when Ghost silently flew towards you, gently nudging against your check.

“I am such an idiot”, you whispered to Ghost and yourself, some stray tears running down your cheeks.

Then a light knock was heard and before you could react and send them away, the door opened, revealing Cayde, leaning against the doorframe, Sundance hovering beside his head.

“I think we need to talk.”, was everything Cayde said before he entered your room and pushed the door closed with his feet. “So, let’s talk”, he added in a serious tone.

i’m well aware it’s been literal years since Cayde died, he wasn’t my Vanguard but he was still one of my favourite characters because he was hilarious, especially his interaction with Petra, i’ve just called this picture Memento, now that i’ve got a tablet i can actually draw properly with, i’m extremely happy with how it turned out either way

I didn't caption the beginning because I couldn't think of a way to make it look good, so only the first beat drop and beyond is captioned.

Random post and I know I'm late to the party but I can't get over the shock that is Destiny 2.

And by that I mean how in the freaking world did they take Uldren Sov--

FREAKING ULDREN SOV who flatout MURDERED my boy Cayde-6 and I cried about it for days because Cayde was the best character in the game and did not care about killing Sov at the end because he MURDERED CAYDE--

--and turned him into my new favorite character in the game??? Like... how???? HOW??????

Seriously, Crow is new best boi and I will die for him, end of discussion. How did this happen?

Cayde's Death

Re-watched Cayde's death scene for some reason and ended up writing this! Surprised I haven't written it yet, but yeah, here you go!

Arjun rushed into a new room within the Prison of Elders, the distressing comm relay they’d heard replaying over and over again within their head. The first thing they saw was Uldren with a collection of malformed Fallen, his back turned. The second thing they saw was Cayde laying back on the ground, the glow of his eyes dwindling. A pit dropped in the depth of their stomach, only to be replaced with bright and hot coiling fury as they turned back to Uldren, teeth grit from beneath their helm.

Uldren turned towards Arjun, an apathetic expression on his face as he held up the Ace of Spades. Arjun’s breath hitched. “He didn’t feel a thing.” He told them, brandishing the hand cannon. He chuckled lowly as the surrounding “Fallen” hissed with delight. Arjun scowled, throat burning with rage as they thrust their Sunshot up to meet him, only for the door to close right in time.

Immediately shoving their handcannon back into its holster, Arjun rushed to be beside Cayde, sliding to their knees and nearly bringing their arms around him to cradle the man. But upon seeing his broken form, they weren’t sure if his exo body could take it. He was mishapen and fragmented, bringing more worry and fury as to the thought of what may have been done while they were away. I should have gotten there sooner! Fuck- I should have been faster! They cried internally. He was shattered, just as his Ghost had been. 

Cayde let out a mechanical trill and a grunt as he shifted, trying to get a better look at the guardian. His voicebox was messed up pretty badly. “How’s… how’s my hair?” He joked, broken chuckles and coughs leaving him. Arjun looked him up and down in dismay, shaking their head in agonizing disbelief. Cayde shook his own head, gaining Arjun’s attention. “Speechless. Typical.” Arjun grit their teeth, ripping off their helmet and looking Cayde in the eyes. Their white glowing orbs were filled with tears. “Screw you.” They told him, the man chuckling and giving the barest smiles in their direction. “There they are. My strong and silent type.” He made a gesture in the air upon saying the nickname, chuckling again, only to break out into hacking and gasping.

Arjun grimaced tragically, bringing out their Ghost as they tried to keep their tears from falling. Come on, Silver. Do something! They begged internally as the Ghost looked over Cayde. “Oh no…” The Ghost’s voice wavered as he hovered over Cayde’s face. “There’s nothing I can…” Silver trailed off sadly, shaking his shell in the way a person would shake their head. Arjun’s heart dropped. “No, there must be something.” They pleaded softly, shifting forward to better hang over Cayde. ”Anything…” Their voice broke. “I’m… sorry.” Silver told them, only for Arjun to hold their head and shake.

Cayde looked up at them, sad. “Listen, kid,” He began, shifting so he could sit up somewhat and look at them. He grunted and his mechanical body whined with the effort. “This…. This ain’t on you.” He told them, head falling back to the floor. Cayde grunted, shaking his head again. “This… is what I get for…for playing nice.” He expressed, voice strained and weakening with every word. Arjun shook their head again, tears welling up as they attempted to blink and wipe them away. He lets out another string of laughter mixed with pained coughs. 

Arjun reached a shaky hand towards Cayde’s, taking it and squeezing it lightly. He squeezed back, shaking his head. “Don’t… don’t go and give me that look, Arjun.” He coughed. “Come on… don’t…” They attempted to smile, only for their lips to quiver and their expression to break. They felt so helpless. They tried to breath life back into the man, with the Light and their warlock induced healing. But it did nothing. The gaping hole in his chest did not fill. Why, exactly, they’d have to figure out later. They were desperate for the man to live so they continued to press the motes into him, only to feel the weight of the oncoming loss grow heavier and heavier. Nonetheless, they heald back their tears- the saline may collect in their eyes, but they wouldn’t allow them to fall. Not yet. Their hand wavered, still holding Cayde’s, but grip weakening.

From the way Cayde’s voicebox wavered and broke when he chuckled, Arjun could tell he was crying. If he had tears to shed, they’d be there. But he was an exo. So he laid there helpless, making a sad little melody that no one but himself and Arjun would ever hear. “You know… I hope you know…” He kept beginning sentences and ending them with harsh breaths. “You tell Zavala and Ikora this, too…” His breathing was quickening, deep and labored, “the Vangaurd…” He took a deep breath and blinked slowly, as if blinking the nonexistent tears from his eyes, “is the best bet… I ever…

Cayde’s body stilled as he looked up at the ceiling, “lost…”

His eyes went blank before flickering out of existence, light gone from his optics. The life he was clinging onto left him as his head tilted to the side, hanging limply. The hand Arjun held had no strength to it. His death punched Arjun in the gut, taking their heart and crushing it. Finally, the tears fell as they sobbed, holding his hand close. “No- no no no no no- please, not yet…” They whispered, anguish and agonizing grief evident in their wavering tone. It suffocated them as they pleaded with the dead exo, “Please, don’t leave me…” They hung their head, droplets of their tears splattering over his chest.

The sound of hurrying boots came from their left. Petra. She slowed to a stop, panting. Upon noticing the two guardian’s states, her breath hitched and she took an abrupt step back. “No…” She breathed in denial. But the way Arjun hunched over Cayde’s broken and lifeless form, sobbing soundlessly with his hand still clutched in theirs, told Petra all she needed to know.

Arjun was there for the funeral. Quiet and lonely for a Vanguard’s funeral, but this was only the first part. Only Ikora and Zavala were there. Only Ikora and Zavala spoke. Ikora was furious. Zavala wanted to keep his peace with the Awoken. Ikora believed that to be cowardice. Zavala pressed a hand to Cayde’s resting place. “I refuse to bury anymore friends.” He told Ikora, rejecting her idea for bringing an army to the Reef. Refusing to tear it to the ground. Arjun grit their teeth. “You won’t have to.”

Finally, Arjun spoke. They had been fuming and seething hotly in the background the entire time, white eyes like suns in the dark. The two remaining Vanguard turned to look at Arjun. “Uldren Sov is mine.” They spoke slowly and methodically, but with such hate it scared the Vanguard. Nonetheless, the two said nothing, watching as Arjun turned and stomped away, ready for a war waged on the Reef by no one by themself.

They would slaughter that Awoken Prince for what he did. And they would enjoy it.
