something i would also like to say, i “get” why i was fired.
I got a phone call on the clock, my boss, Josh, told me i could take it. But was clearly annoyed. He tells me he just won a pickle ball tournament. But then something is wrong.
his speech is slurred, he’s saying something in english of all things, “help me please” were the last words he spoke. how could i help!? i live in tennessee and he lives in california! all i could do was grab a coworker of mine and have her call my step grandmother while i call 911 to get transferred to a dispatcher in california. i used another coworkers phone to call 911 so i could stay on the line with my nanu, i could hear him breathing, it was labored but there. when i wasn’t talking to the dispatcher i was talking to him. my broken italian failing me. what would have normally been a 2 minute phone call became an emergency that lasted over 30 minutes. 40 minutes after that finishes my step grandmother calls me to tell me that he’s passed on. i did all i could do but it wasn’t enough. i was a wreck. i was sent home for the day.
so; i took a unauthorized 30 minute break, several personal calls while on the clock, distracted my coworkers, and had a breakdown that forced me to leave my shift early, leaving them without coverage. all in one day. IN THEORY just hearing that description i would be like “yeah that person at least deserves a write up if it’s their first offense, firing still seems a little far but i won’t question you on it.”
In practice, however, i was dealing with an emergency remotely. i was grieving the loss of a loved one. i was stressed from the situation. and someone i thought was my friend showed me no sympathy.
it was policy, bc he gave me a new write up for each ‘incident’ i was fired for 4 but just to be a cunt it ended up totaling 5, the last because i called him a “fucking heartless dick, and a coward for not standing up for me against [owners name]!”
so yeah. fuck crumbl. but also maybe i from a corporate standpoint i deserved it.
