A collection of awkward and embarrassing incidents that happened to you while working with Levi.
context : chronically you are in season 1 part 2, you work alongside Levi and his special squad Petra, Gunther, Oruo, Eld and Eren. In addition to being a soldier, you were in charge of everything administration-related, Levi hired you to take care of the paperwork, the finances, the stock management- basically all the aspects of his jobs that he despised doing- besides you were friends with Hange, so you accepted the duty with a good dose of pride, honored to be of help to Humanity's strongest. Also, you admired him so much to the point where admiration soon started resembling an all too different feeling.
The chair incident
One time, as an important meeting was coming to an end, and all of you were starting to depart, Eld bumped into you making you lose your balance and you ended up falling on Levi's lap who had not yet got off his seat. The incident lasted for a negligible two seconds, but the shock and embarrassment were excruciating, jumping off your superiors thighs immediately, you managed to steal a brief look at his face, his expression was a blank one, your face on the other hand was boiling. You excused yourself with a small, almost inaudible "sorry" and hurried out of the meeting room. You went directly to the first floor bathrooms, splashing icy water on your face, trying to shed yourself of the last bit of embarrassment, however, during the rest of the day, you couldn't get the incident out of your head. The feeling of Levi's thighs still lingering under yours, the scent of him was still teasing your memory, but most of all, you couldn't shake off the feeling of the lump you felt for a split of second the moment you landed on him. When you encountered Levi in the halls the next day, he was as expressionless as usual but you weren't able to look at him for at least two whole weeks.
The chest-bandage incident
You were in a spare room you and Petra sometimes use to do physical training. The other members also used this room as a storage place for documents, gear supplies and such items. You and Petra were busy doing your habitual set of push ups-and girls chatting- when Petra decided to go fetch some water. You continued your physical exercise while trying to bear the pain induced by your menstruations. It was that time of the month and you were just telling Petra about how unusually heavy your breasts felt this time and how much discomfort it was causing you during training. Petra had told you not to worry about it and that she couldn't really tell the difference due to your chest-bandages. When you heard her footsteps back in the room, you decided to continue the conversation where it left, without interrupting your work out, still facing the ground. "Hey, i really think my breasts got bigger, i'm gonna take off my bandages and i want you to take a look and tell me if they look bigger to you okey ?" You got up from the ground, sighing from the exhaustion but turning around, it wasn't Petra that was standing in front of you, instead, you were met by two steel colored eyes looking right at you with a mix of shock and utter confusion. It wasn't Petra who entered the room. It was Levi. You froze, replaying in your head what you just said, feeling mortified. Even though the words weren't directed at him, he just heard you asking him to take a look at your breasts to see if they were bigger ! you felt your blood changing its route from south to north, going directly to your face. The ginger-head soon appeared right behind the short man and seemed to instantly capture the heavy atmosphere. Levi had apparently came into the room looking for a cleaning cloth since he was holding a new one in his hand, you stared at the white cloth while the only thoughts running in circle inside your head at that moment were : it wasn't Petra ! it wasn't Petra ! it was Levi You just told Levi you have bigger boobs ! You told him to check them out ! You snapped out of it when you heard the sound of Levi clearing his throat before turning heels, just before disappearing from your view, you heard him practically spiting to Petra "I think she needs you to confirm something for her". Your comrade stood there looking at you with nothing but confusion while you were still staring at the same spot where just seconds ago, Levi was holding a washcloth, and you had just told him that your breasts got bigger.
The brushing incident
You were standing behind Levi in a crowded market, and while you were gathered in line, a merchant shoved you forward, right into the captain's back, and you swore your hand brushed his buttock. Alarmed, you waited for the short haired-man to turn around but he didn't move an inch and you were glad he didn't, because if he did, he would have seen your face, and the cruel crimson color splashed all over it. You just touched (accidentally) Humanity's strongest behind you thought shyly to yourself.

Rougher is Better
"Fuck"
Levi moaned into your ear as he pulled out. You panted trying to catch your breath while sweat rolled off your skin. What time was it? You turned to look at your alarm clock on the nightstand; in bright red numbers you read 3:44 . Had it really been 3 hours since you started?
"What are you looking at?"
He asked calling back your attention, you responded by smirking and wrapping your legs tighter on his waist brining him even closer. He glared at you and proceeded to look at whatever was on the nightstand that had taken your eyes from him. 'Oh' he thought, and looked down into your eyes again your coy smirk becoming wider. Your hands found their ways to his back and painfully you dug your nails deep into his skin. He frowned.
"Tch, horny brat"
You simply smiled at him you could feel him getting hard again.
"You're not one to judge"
You whispered; your throat extremely soar from moaning, panting and screaming. He grabbed you lifting you quite roughly from the mattress and making you sit on him. As he repositioned you, you felt his hard dick entering you again instantly making you moan and arch your aching body towards him. As soon as you felt the entirety of his shaft inside you, you panted. He thrust his hips forward.
"a-aHHH"
You said involuntarily while throwing your head back enjoying the feeling it brought; you would never be able to get enough from this man. You brought your head forward meeting his eyes; you bit your lip before starting to hump his dick. This was by far Levi's favourite position, you got to feel you working to pleasure yourself it was almost as erotic as watching you masturbate. He grabbed your hips and helped you go on a faster pace.
"Fuck, you are so fucking good"
He remarked letting out a muffled moan. Your head was now resting on his shoulder as your hips kept swaying, your pants filling the otherwise silent room. However, you wanted more, you wanted something even rougher so you opened your mouth and bit down into Levi's shoulder blade. To this he fingers dug into your ass, separating it a giving him more space to fill you. Now it was your nails that began working, this was going to leave scars.
"Ah-ahhhh ah ah ahhhh Moreeeeee~"
That did it, Levi slammed your hips together making him pant faster and faster he would feel you getting there.
"Say my name"
He ordered. You were left at his mercy, you loved this side of him, not wasting a second you complied to his every whim.
"Levi"
You began moaning again.
"Leevi"
His thrust going faster and harder every time you said his name.
"Levii!"
You couldn't stop his name from rolling out your mouth; it flowed so naturally like water.
"LEVI!"
You screamed and came for the fifth time that day. You could feel him close too. He went faster and until he too came inside you filling you up even more than what he had already done not 40 minutes before. You looked down at your connected parts; semen was dripping onto your thighs. He looked down too and smirked. You collapsed into his arms your eyes droopy with exhaustion. You literally could not feel your legs anymore.
"Finally satisfied?"
He asked holding your body closely. You hummed in response, you heard him chuckle and the vibration from his throat. He kissed the nape of your neck lightly sucking it while he laid you back on the mattress. Your arms were still wrapped around his neck not permitting him to separate himself from you.
"I like you inside me"
You commented on his ear while he pulled out from you once again. He unwrapped your arms from him and proceeded to pin them above your head with one hand.
"Are you trying to make me hard again?"
He said with his mouth on your neck nibbling on it lightly.
"Maybe"
You responded turning your head right to allow him more space.
"If you do. I'll make fucking sure you can't walk for the next two days"
He warned and bit harshly earning an exquisite sound from you.
"Levi, I won't be able to walk already, fuck me again"
You said opening your already numb legs for him to position himself in the middle again.
"Fucking brat, I'll show you what it feels like not to be able to move"
He said taking one of your already bruised nipples between his teeth.

Summary: Everyone get insecure and needs reassurance, even Humanity’s Strongest </3
You and the Captain had been together for quite some time now. True, you’ve had trials and tribulations, ups and downs, but the two of you had grown quite close after the loss of his squad about a year back. You could recall those days as easily as you could recite your own name. Every so often, you’d catch yourself daydreaming about those first moments you had shared with the seemingly otherworldly raven-haired man.
The rest of your squad always made jokes about the old grump, all which stemmed from their own inability to approach those intimidating charcoal eyes. Even before you and Levi had been together, you admired him in a way you suspected no one else did. While everyone else was concerned with poking at his compulsive cleaning habits or hard-ass attitude in training sessions, you found yourself wondering when those steely eyes would so much as flick to yours. Maybe that’s what had drawn him to you as well. The other cadets always looked so uncomfortable in his presence, but not you. You didn’t cower or avert your gaze when his eyes studied yours; you were never one to break eye contact when his roaming gaze found you across the mess hall at meal times. Instead, you would always offer him a small smile. The first time you smiled at him rattled him more than he would have liked to admit. Who is this brat? He would think to himself, unbeknownst to the two of you that small smiles and glances in passing would have the power to flourish into a relationship so wholesome that neither of you thought you deserved happiness such as this in a world such as yours.
Though never spoken, it had become routine for you to spend most nights with Levi. You loved that about your relationship; some things just did not need to be said. The two of you had a silent understanding and there was never any need to fill comfortable gaps of quiet with unnecessary chatter. You took comfort in the nights where long after Levi had thought you were encased in your own dreams, he would still lay with you, even if his own thoughts prevented him from finding his way into slumber.
However, you started noticing that more and more your captain would eventually carefully slide his arms from around your waist. It was almost every night now, that the sudden cold assault on the exposed skin of your torso would pull you from a dream just enough that you were able to feel the bed dip and bounce back when Levi would get up and drag himself to his desk. For weeks, you pretended to sleep, but watched him through the spidery veil of your eyelashes as he worked tirelessly through the night, occasionally stopping to brew tea or rest his forehead on the heels of his palms, sometimes clutching strands of his ebony locks between his fingers. Your heart clenched inside your chest each time you watched him. You tried to send affirmations of love and comfort to him telepathically, and each night you politely asked the universe to grant your lover some sort of release from the grasp that he was helpless in. You wanted to tell him all this, but you knew it would do more harm than good. He would come to you when he was ready. And so you waited. Each night you told yourself that this would be the night he didn’t untangle himself from your embrace, or that this would be the night he confided in you about all the guilt and anger he was engulfed in. Each night you grew more disappointed when you realized that would not be the case.
After weeks of repeated let downs, you couldn’t stop your mind from settling into a negative haze. You began to think that maybe Levi no longer wanted you, and he was trying to spare your feelings through avoidance. You decided that it would be better for both of your sakes if you stayed in your own room for a night. You meant to tell Levi of your intentions, but you weren’t able to find him all day and between a hectic day of training and paperwork, it slipped your mind as you continued with your own work. You busied yourself into the wee hours of the night with tedious little things; anything to give your mind a break from the constant paranoia and speculation. Figuring it had to be well past 2am, your thoughts migrated to darker places than the paperwork you had buried yourself in previously. Why hasn’t he come to see me? Did he even notice I was gone? We haven’t properly talked in almost 2 days. . .
The more you allowed your mind to fester with frustration, confusion and anger, the more heated you became. At some point, all your thoughts bubbled over and your temper was that of boiling water splashing onto a burning element. It moved and sizzled in you until you couldn’t stand it anymore. You stood forcefully, chair scraping loudly on the stone floor. Your strides to his office were long and purposeful. Your knuckles cried in protest at the three solid knocks you rapped on his door. No answer. You knocked again. Nothing. Feeling brave, you tried turning the knob, and to your surprise found no resistance. Stepping into the small space, your eyes immediately landed on the hunched back of Levi sleeping over various scattered papers. You cocked your head for a better view of his cheeks squished into a distorted yet peaceful expression. The sight before you had a cooling effect on your hot anger from before. You told yourself that speaking to him could wait. As annoyed as you were, you could never tear him from the rare and valuable bouts of sleep he was able to find. You turned on your heel and headed for the door, careful not to wake him. Hand twisting the knob, you froze at the sound from behind you.
“Y/n,” his voice called out to you, low and raspy.
“Sorry, did I wake you?” you turned back around to see him standing to face you. He didn’t offer a response other than a simple dismissal of your disturbance to his sleep with a casual wave of his hand.
After some silence, and against your better judgement, you spoke again: “I didn’t think you had noticed I was gone.”
“Why wouldn’t I notice? Do you take me for an idiot, y/n?” he raised one thin eyebrow at you, the sleepy haze now gone from his eyes.
“No, sorry. I just . . . you didn’t come to talk to me at all today,” you confessed, fingers picking nervously at the ends of your nails. If you weren’t looking down at your hands you would have caught his eyes widen ever so slightly.
“I didn’t come to you because I thought you wanted to be left alone. You’ve been quiet lately,” he observed.
“Me? What about you? You think I don’t notice that every night for the past few weeks you’ve been leaving the bed? You think I don’t notice the way you look at me differently? Do you take me for an idiot, Levi?” you used his own words against him, admittedly sounding a little more venomous than you had intended. At this, his eyes widened further, confirming your suspicions. “I knew it,” you continued, “there is something different between us. Why can’t you just tell me instead of leading me on for the sake of my feelings?” you asked, beginning to become angry again.
“What the hell are you talking about? Leading you on,” he scoffed, frustration now creeping into his tone as well.
“I can’t really think of another reason you’d be avoiding me other than the fact that you no longer want to be with me and are sparing my feelings,” you said, crossing your arms over your chest defiantly.
“Y/n, you are a fucking idiot,” Levi stated, shaking his head in disbelief. When he raised his eyes to lock with yours again, you almost gasped when you saw pools of emotion swimming in the usually stoic man’s eyes.
“Well then tell me what’s going on Levi. Let me be there for you,” you hesitantly wrapped your fingers around his wrist in a comforting gesture. After a few minutes of painful silence, you heard him draw in a shaky breath.
“I just want to be more for you. Here I am, Humanity’s Strongest, and I can barely be a good partner to you. I see you and your smile lights up any room you walk into. You’re like the sun. You radiate goodness. I am like the black hole in the corner that sucks all the happiness out of a room. I’m just a grumpy old man who is plagued by memories and haunted by the fact that everyone I care about is eventually ripped from me. I am the opposite of you and I am everything that you don’t need,” the words spilled from his mouth. His voice was no longer a bored monotone, but was overflowing with all the unspoken and buried emotions and insecurities he had shouldered for so long. Your heart felt like it was about to burst. Despite all this, you could help but release a breathy laugh of relief. “What?” he asked defensively, annoyance flooding into his tone at you laughing at him.
“Nothing, I’m just so relieved,” another giggle slipped past your lips. “Levi, look at me,” you cupped both your hands on each of his cheeks and urged him to fix his downcast gaze on yours. “You are everything to me. Got it? I don’t care if you’re an old grump, because you’re my old grump. I have admired you since the first day we met and that is not about to change.” You gave your wrists a tiny shake to add further impact to your words. A small smile graced your lips when you watched the meaning of your confession slowly seep its way into Levi’s eyes, like honey being drizzled over a spoon. “Look,” it was your turn to look at the ground, cheeks heating up as a blush crept across them, “I love you, you dumbass. Okay? So, next time lean on me. I want to be here for you too, like you are for me,” your eyes snapped back up to meet his. There was a light shining behind those dark orbs that said much more to you than his words ever could.
“Y/n . . .” Levi tugged at your wrist, pulling you in and enveloping you in his strong embrace. He pressed the side of his cheek to the top of your head, inhaling your comforting scent. “Thank you,” he sighed. “I love you too.” At this, you smiled, feeling your cheek press into the stiff material of his uniform. “But,” he continued in a lighter tone, “If you ever call your Captain a dumbass again, I’m putting you on stable duty for a week.” You giggled, taking joy in the sensation of feeling his chest rumbling against you as he offered a small chuckle.
“Okay old man, let’s get you into bed. You need sleep,” you joked, backing away and landing a soft punch on his arm.
The two of you climbed into bed once again as you had many, many times before. Only this time, you took comfort in the feeling of being encased in his arms the whole night, your hearts once again full.
There was a pain that you could sense even before you open your mind to the subject of complete consciousness. It trickled down into your right big toe.
You slowly sat up after you opened your eyes to a row of empty cots made with plain white linen and one flat pillow. You rubbed your eyes, looking around to the majority of the room that was, to say the least, depressing. All along the walls were shelves and cupboards made from dark, grainy wood, set with vials and mason jars of who knows what.
You reached for the little nightstand on the side of your bed, set with only a tarnished bell that you pressed with your palm.
Moments later, you could hear shuffling and footsteps coming down the hall. The door opened open, and to your dismay, an unfamiliar woman entered with a glass and a pitcher of something that sloshed with ice.
“How are you feeling?” she asked.
You watched with mild shock as she poured you a glass of ice water and held it out. Your dry tongue yearned for the glass, and you took it and gulped it down in a moment.
The woman gave you a refill.
“Who are you?” you asked after one more drink.
“I am the on call surgeon for the survey corps,” she explained, setting the pitcher down on the racketing side table.
“I’m at the survey corps?” you asked. Your brows contorted with confusion. “How long have I been...?”
“About four days,” she explained. “You were badly hurt during the battle of Trost and you lost a lot of blood. Your injury required twenty two stitches, all on your lower back, where you had a five centimeter deep gash after being dropped on a rock fragment.”
You were dumbfounded. “Four days?” Four days for such a minor injury?
“You must have needed the rest,” the surgeon said with a simple shrug. “Your friends attested your long day of hard work.”
“Why am I with the survey corps?” you asked. “Where are the others?” You’d been half tempted to ask for your friends, but you didn’t really have friends. You had people you’d trained and bunked and fought with, but not ‘friends.’
“You are one of the few cadets that seemed to be close to the asset. Captain Ackerman has been waiting for you to wake up so that you can be questioned.”
Questioned? Captain Ackerman? Asset? Though none of that answered your question about the other cadets, it explained why you were at the survey corps hospital.
The surgeon explained Eren as the asset, and Captain Ackerman is the man in charge of anything related to Eren. Captain Ackerman wanted to know about Eren, from every point of view possible.
You drank the rest of your water before crawling out of bed. You could feel the stiff sutures rub against the fabric of your shirt. The ache of the injury stiffened your movements as you paced back and forth across the length of the room like the doctor had asked of you.
She made a note on the parchment pad she held before setting it down and making way to the cabinets that lined the wall. It was filled with syringes made of brass and had foggy glass jars filled with powders and pills capsules.
She leveled four scoops of a thin, white powder and placed it in a small drawstring bag. “That’ll be for the pain,” she says. “Mix one spoonful it into water or tea before bed and again as needed. The survey corps only allows one dosage of painkillers per injury, so you will not be getting any refills. Try not to get addicted.”
You were tempted to toss the bag back towards her. “Addicted?” you said with wary.
The surgeon shrugged.
“What’s your name again?” you asked. She lifted her brows.
“I am Kathie Perrine, head of surgery and chief assistant to Hanji Zoe, the lead on science and medical research here at the corps.” Kathie reached for the glass frames that were tucked into her shirt pocket, unfolding the arms then placing them at the bridge of her nose. “The captain will give you more information on your room detail and other housing matters. You and the other cadets will be given the formal opportunity to choose your branch of desired service after Eren Jaegar’s trial. Captain Ackerman’s office is up the staircase outside the room, at the right hand wall. It’s the very first entrance.”
You clutched your bag of medicine tightly, nodding and trying to soak up all the information you could. It felt like Kathie was trying to get you out of the surgery as soon as possible, even though you didn’t feel ready yet.
“What if I get lost?” you asked before you budged.
Kathie looked lost herself. “Ask for directions. You’ll get it.”
As you walked out the double surgery doors, you felt like Kathie wasn’t too concerned with you getting to the apparently important Captain Ackerman. Maybe you’d get lost in the giant place and die. Maybe you’re stitches would rip open and you’d bleed to death on the stairs.
It felt like it would happen as you climbed the steps, wincing as the tightly closed wound on your back stretched with every movement. It was worse than the sort of stretch you got when your knee was scabbed. It was real.
This was all real. You were at the cadet corps in God knows where, about to meet God knows who.
But you had been assured by Miss Perrine that Captain Ackerman would set you straight with your living details and your new assignments. Then you could get the hell out of here.
The survey corps was not a place you wanted to be.
With every step up the winding staircase, you could remember the agonizing noises of wailing and screaming on the roads of Trost.
You looked at your hands; you flex and clench them, looking at every detail of your skin. You had been scrubbed down. No dirt and blood was jammed underneath your fingernails.
What was that boy’s name?
You suddenly remembered him as you took a stark right, looking at the oak door to Captain Ackerman’s office.
You hesitantly rapped your knuckles against the door.
“Enter,” a stern sounding voice sounded from beyond the oak.
You turned the brass handle and opened the door to a neatly put together office. It was a normal looking one, with a large wooden desk, stacks of yellowish parchment and leather bound books. You were completely stunned to see who must be the one and only Captain Ackerman.
He wasn’t like you’d imagined at all. For one, he wasn’t old. At least, he didn’t look like it. He was older than you, by maybe ten or so years. His hair wasn’t white or gray, but rather a deep shade of black that had undertones of violet in the candlelight.
He was sorting papers, not bothering to look up as he spoke. “Name?”
“Y/n L/n,” you stammered, offering a weak salute. You felt strangely embarrassed by the greeting, wondering if he’d look at you and wonder why on earth you were doing such a pose. It didn’t feel like he was a captain. He felt like something much more intimidating.
His eyes finally met yours, and you felt like you’d been slapped in the face. Sharp and steely as they were, they were darkly beautiful. He had a stern looking expression, one to match his voice, and the finest bone structure you think you’d ever seen.
He did not look like he belonged in the survey corps. He looked like he belonged in the royal courts at the interior, maybe even on the arm of a princess.
“Yes, miss L/n,” he murmured to himself as he searched through his papers. “Have a seat.”
You strained to do so without meeting his gaze as he looked back and forth between files.
“I am Levi Ackerman, a squad leader here. For the time being I’m also taking the lead on the Eren Jaeger case. I’ll be asking some questions about Jaeger and I am expecting your full, honest answers. Now, until you’ve chosen a corps to serve in you’re going to be residing here and answering directly to me.”
He looked at you for confirmation when you did not answer, a thin eyebrow raised high.
You stammered, “Oh, yes sir,” as a pathetic reply.
The captain tutted under his breath. “Room assignment is seven in the girls hallway,” he said then, going through his papers. He didn’t sound like he really wanted to be going over this all with you. “Sauna and showers every morning at seven sharp for the females. Breakfast seven thirty. Lunch is optional, all noon. Dinner eight in the evening. Questions?”
“No, sir,” you quickly said. You could remember all of that. Maybe.
“Let’s talk about Jaeger.”
It was an abrupt topic change, one that you didn’t quite welcome. To be honest, you didn’t want to be here at all. You were in the total dark about everything. Where was Krista and Ymir?
And Armin, and Mikasa, and even Eren?
Reiner?
The last image that you could muster into your brain was clutching Eren’s limp body in your arms. You remember trying to pull him free of the titan corpse and then nothing else.
“Last time you and I met, you had been recently injured,” Levi noted. “How is that?”
You blinked. “I’m sorry,” you muttered, “but I don’t actually remember meeting you.”
The captain impatiently tapped his pencil “The injury?” he repeated.
You felt your face flush with warmth and embarrassment. “Better,” you said quietly, using a hand to feel the medicine in your pocket.
“And was that induced by Jaeger?”
“I don’t think so. No.”
“Do you think, or do you know?” the captain asked. His eyes were a stronghold, trying to force their way into your nerves.
“I-No.”
“So, you know, then?” the captain asked. He leaned back in his chair, using his forefingers to massage his temples. “It’s a simple question.”
“No.” You spoke firmly. “Eren did not hurt me.”
“You do not remember meeting me,” the captain drawled, “but you remember clearly that Eren did not hurt you?”
Floundering was the only way to describe how you were currently feeling. The captain seemed to know every way to make you feel flustered and feverish.
“This feels oddly like an interrogation, captain,” you said before you could stop yourself.
His eyebrows lifted in shock. You could see the age in the crinkles around his eyes as he finally let his face relax. Late twenties, maybe even around thirty, you estimated.
“Let me correct you, cadet,” the captain said slowly. “This is. Did you know Eren Jaegar was a titan?”
Your eyes would have rolled out of your head if you could widen them any wider. “Absolutely not,” you snapped. “I wasn’t under the impression that any human could be a titan.”
“If I were you I would very quickly adjust that attitude, Y/n,” the captain said smoothly. It shook something in your belly when he said it. His dark eyes were unwavering and they peered into you with no remorse.
“I did not know. I don’t know Eren, really. He and I were never friends.”
“Were you close with the Armin boy?” Levi asked as he looked at his pages, making some notes in the margin.
“No.”
“And the girl?”
“Your relative?” you asked for confirmation.
The captain looked surprised again. “Do not begin to assume anything about me, L/n,” the captain said carefully. “Though she and I share the surname, I do not know her. That wasn’t the question. Were you, or are you, close to Mikasa Ackerman?”
“...No,” you said again, feeling the strain of frustration tugging at your jaw, keeping your mouth tense.
“Were you ever threatened by Jaeger?” the captain proceeded to ask.
“Never. I hardly interacted with him.” You crossed your ankles.
“Then why help him?” the captain asked.
You paused. You looked at the captain with a blank expression.
He lifted his eyebrows again, silently repeating the question with what you would have imagined to be a tone of annoyance. “Is there a problem?”
“Is there some reason I shouldn’t have helped him? Does that make me a bad person? An accomplice? I would have liked some support, had it been me. I can’t understand why you don’t understand about-”
“About?” the captain challenged. He wore a strange sort of smirk, as if he were impressed by your impending outburst; it was like he’d been waiting for it all this time.
“About human decency,” you concluded.
The captain had a mask of amusement on his face as he folded his hands overtop his desk. “You’re a stark change from the usual cadets around here.”
“How so?” you asked, feeling your face sizzling with impending embarrassment.
“You’re a much bigger dumbass than most of them. In the two interactions we’ve had together, you’ve proven yourself to be quite stubborn. You refuse to die, and yet you also refuse to comply with human nature. The nature in this compound is that I am your captain and I ask you what I ask you not to humiliate you, but to form a solid basis of what I’m dealing with. Eren Jaeger is not a usual situation. I will not have usual reactions. Despite that, I expect you to behave like a cadet should behave. You’ve made your impression. Those are all the questions I have for you today. Report to your quarters, change into uniform, then report here immediately.”
“For what?” you asked, your voice squeaky with humiliation.
“For janitorial service. Problem with that?”
His challenging tone was just daring you to talk back one more time.
You ground your teeth in a hard clench. “No, sir.”
“You are dismissed,” the captain said with a small wave of his pale, slender hand. You could see the scars and callouses that littered the top of his palm even from your seat across the desk.
Standing to your feet, with your fists clenched at your side, you offered Levi a stiff salute; you didn’t mean it, without a doubt, but you didn’t want to risk getting in even more trouble.
“Dismissed, cadet,” the captain said again. “I expect a swift return.”
You have never felt so completely humiliated. The captain had practically gutted you in there. Your legs trembled by the knees as you stormed out of the office.
You paused in your steps, groaning, then you turned around again, making your way back inside.
“Yes, cadet?” the captain asked, sounding exhausted as he immediately pinched his nose in frustration.
“I forgot my room assignment,” you muttered, avoiding meeting his gaze.
“Room seven, girls’ hallway,” he said. “I can write it down if you’d like.”
“No thank you. Sir,” you added before he could bitch again.
It was a slap in the goddamn face to have to march up to your room while knowing you’d have to march back down and face your first ever corporal punishment.
The girls’ hallway was marked by a little plaque on the door. All the doors were made of the same kind of heavy oak with grains and lines from the aged tree it’d been born. No numbers were put up. You had to count a few times, unsure of how the rooms were meant to be numbered. Down one wall, then back the other? Or alternating?
You hesitated to enter the room you thought would be yours. You knocked a couple of times, while pressing your ear up against the door to hear any answers inside.
The room, though muffled, was undeniably silent. You opened up the sticky door, the door swinging into the room.
It was a plain room, but no doubt better than the group bunks you had at the training academy. One unmade cot was pressed up in the left corner. Your familiar trunk of belongings sat on the bare mattress, alongside a set of sheets, a woven quilt, and two dismal pillows.
There were no windows; rather the light source for the rest of your days here would be the oil lamp or the three large candles sitting on the pathetic looking desk pushed up against the north facing wall.
Wow. You sure got lucky with room number seven, you bitterly think to yourself as you slam the door shut behind you. Stalking forward you could feel the slight pain in your back as you threw open your trunk. You felt relieved to see your belongings packed in it. It must have been brought after the attack.
As you sifted through, looking for your uniform, you felt rage boiling in the pit of your stomach. The prickly, uptight Captain Ackerman had an easy time brushing off your attitude and asking you insensitive questions about Eren. Who knows what Eren’s feeling right now? His experience compared to the others that suffered in Trost is entirely different, but likely just as traumatic. You couldn’t imagine how he was feeling.
Really, you couldn’t imagine how anyone was feeling.
You thought back to Fable, her baby Bree, and that boy who was just around your age, whose name you’d forgotten. You felt nauseous as you imagine the fate that could have befallen them after they left with your horse.
You didn’t want to know the details. You’d rather go on the rest of your life assuming they made it to their little farm in Fairkelt by Stohess.
Just as you didn’t want to know the details of their adventure, you certainly didn’t want to know what happened in Trost after your injury. You feel lucky for not remembering the injury itself, or your apparent first meeting with Captain Levi Asshole-man.
Four days has been long enough to clear out the titans and assemble the dead.
You took your time buttoning up your shirt as you tried to keep the Captain waiting for as long as possible (without getting in even more trouble). Maybe if you just barricade your door, he’ll give up and let you go on your way.
Doubtful.
You shoved your feet into your knee high boots, strapping up the buckles as you eyed your trunk you’d moved to the floor. It was a little bit pitiful to look at the small room and realize you didn’t even have enough belongings to fill it up. There wasn’t even enough clothing to constitute owning a wardrobe.
You kicked the trunk out of the way as you stalked out of the seventh bedroom in the girls’ hallway.
Your back did feel stiff and achy as you sped walked to Captain Ackerman’s office.
As you walked down the stairs, you could see him waiting outside of his office door, leaning against the door frame with a bucket of water and a lame mop.
“Reporting for janitorial duty, sir,” you scowled as you salute him. The captain simply gestured for you to take the mop. “In the future,” he said as you took the handle, “you will be expected to know where the cleaning supplies are, as you will have to get them yourself,”
“Thank you so much, sir,” you scowled again.
“Cadet, your attitude is the reason you’re doing this,” the captain said carefully. “I would suggest keeping that attitude of yours in check for the duration of your stay.”
If you had the balls to do it, you would have made a retort featuring something about his height. It was surprising how short he was. You couldn’t tell by him simply sitting, but on his feet, he didn’t even exceed 5-foot-four.
You chose to keep your mouth shut the way he’d so lovingly suggested.
You dunked the mop head into the water before slapping it against the stone floor. “Happy mopping, cadet. I’ll make sure to leave my office door open if you have any questions. I except the hallway and the staircase to be done after thirty minutes. Then we can review your next cleaning assignment.”
Thirty minutes, you think angrily as the captain turns his back on you to retreat into his stupid office. Just how long would this little punishment last?
You got to work mopping the hallway outside of the captain’s door; his office seemed to be the only one down here, so you didn’t have any luck of running into your acquaintances. While you wanted to ask him about any of them, you had a small feeling he’d be of little help.
You supposed that you couldn’t blame him. If he truly were managing Eren Jaeger’s case, he must have an enormous amount of work he needs to get done. Your testimony, though filled with ‘attitude’ may have helped him some, and he needs to properly log it.
How stressful.
Such a job would produce wrinkles in the forehead.
Looking at him as he works, you can see that while he may be older than you, his face is rather smooth. You’d peg him to be in his later twenties.
You were stunned to look from his office to the corridor, and seeing a young woman approaching. You blushed. You didn’t want her to think strangely of you for continually glancing into the Captain’s office.
“Good afternoon, miss cadet,” the woman said kindly. You lamely gathered a salute as you got caught in the warmth of her eyes. She was incredibly beautiful. She had soft hazel eyes, and wavy reddish brown hair that tickled her chin and neck.
“Is Captain Levi available?”
Levi must have heard the woman’s voice. He quickly stood to his feet, pushing down his stack of papers and striding out of the office.
“Petra,” he said smoothly. His voice was noticeably kinder than it had been when he had spoken to you.
“Hello Captain,” Petra replied with a voice so genuinely sweet. “I see you’ve been working hard. Already giving poor cadets janitorial punishments? She’ll never want to join the survey corps now,” she added, throwing a small wink your way.
You would have laughed if you weren’t so flabbergasted by the captain’s change in demeanor.
So he could be nice! You supposed any one would be nice to a young woman as pretty and charming as Petra. So, that’s not you. Not that it matters.
You don’t need the captain to like you, mostly because you have no intention of staying in the survey corps longer than you have to. You’d certainly had enough of death and destruction to last you an entire lifetime. The Garrison unit just made sense.
It’s not as if you had any other options.
You did your best not to eavesdrop on the conversation Levi and Petra were having. You mostly wanted to listen for details on any of your friends, maybe even Reiner or Krista. Any familiar mention of the two would make you feel somewhat better for being trapped here.
“L/n,” the Captain called.
You jolt with a start. You cast your eyes into the office, the sole point you’d been trying to avoid until now. “Yes, captain?” you asked meekly. His gaze combined with Petra’s made you feel strangely sick.
“Finish up with the staircase,” he said dismissively, immediately turning his attention back to Petra, as if he hadn’t just spoken to you. “Then you’ll be escorted to the mess hall for dinner.”
You blinked back tears of absolute ignominy.
Petra noticed how you’d been silently struck by the captain’s curt words, and she tugged his sleeve, whispering something to him with her eyebrows sternly furrowed.
You weren’t sure that you could bare the weight of their eyes any longer, or even the potentially cruel response from the captain.
You strained to pick up your bucket. You knelt down, wincing at the strain it put on your stiches. The flat soles of your boots left imprints on the wet floor as you slowly walked up the stairs of the spiral case.
Water sloshed over the bucket as you struggled to place it somewhere constructive. Rather than listen to Petra and the Captain, you tried to decide how the hell you would go about mopping stairs. It was very compelling as you tried to block out the small laughs that Petra let out downstairs as they discussed the “shitty new batch of cadets.”
You felt slightly unnerved at the thought of the captain shit talking you to Petra. What did you ever do to that man?
You’d done nothing. You couldn’t be expected to not get angry when the captain likes a dickhead. You dunked your mop into the bucket before you sloshed the head of it around on the first step.
As long as Captain Ackerman is apart of this corps, you’d never, ever join. You would rather slap the man in the face then tell him to shoved. Straight up a titan’s-
A slight scream left your mouth as you felt the heel of your boot pushed the bucket of water back. It clunked against the steps, spilling the water across the way and gathering beneath your boots. The flat soles did nothing to save you as you felt the entire world tipping backwards.
You tumbled down the hard set of stairs, shrieking so abruptly at the pain that you bit your tongue hard.
It was a hard thump at the bottom of the steps, your head cracking against the stone floor.
“Oh, m--!”
You could hardly hear the rushing footsteps to your side as Petra’s light feet slapped against the floor.
Her light head of hair appeared over you, her eyes wide as she knelt down to your side.
“Are you alright?”
No. You were not alright. You were laying in a pool of your own blood because your stitches pulled open. You opened your mouth to reply, to maybe even ask for help, but the blood from your tongue seeped out in a mixture of your saliva.
This seemed to truly frighten Petra as she called for the captain.
“No,” you begged her, wiping your mouth as you tried to sit up. “Not the captain.”
“Christ, L/n,” the captain swore as he exited the office. “I only asked you to mop. Is that something to throw yourself down the stairs over?”
He came to your side, just by Petra. He rolled the white sleeves of his shirt up to his elbows as he examined your wounds. “Ah, shit,” he muttered.
You flinched under the captain’s touch. His arm swept underneath your back, pulling you to sit upright. His hand tugged at the blood soaked hem of your shirt. His palm felt warm against your wound. “Shit,” he said again. “Okay, you’re going to the surgery.”
“No,” you said quickly. You used the back of your mouth to wipe the spit from your mouth. “I just came out of there.”
Petra looked horrified at your words. She whirled her head towards the captain. “She just came out of the medical unit,” she gasped. “And you already had her go onto janitorial service?”
Levi looked flabbergasted. He didn’t bother to say anything. Surprisingly, he just kept his mouth shut as he swept his other arm beneath your legs. You tried to push out of his arms as he rose to his feet.
You were slightly shocked at how strong he was, especially considering his height.
“Medical unit,” the captain said sternly. “Now.”
“I can walk there,” you argued, still squirming under the feeling of his strong hand clasped across your wound.
He met your eyes with his own. It was a strange sight. Up close, his eyes were less dark. They were a smoky grey, with little wisps of crystalline blue seemingly fracked into the irises.
“Let me do my job, cadet,” Levi said as he continued to carry you down the hall.
You felt so close to tears as you earned glances of confusion from the wandering soldiers. While the captain didn’t seem to mind, you really did. You hated feeling so exposed and helpless to a person you didn’t even know. You fought in the Trost battle, for Wall’s sake! You could make it to the surgery all on your own.
Shame doused over you as Levi kicked the door of the surgery open, immediately demanding a bed and attention for you. You hated the way he said your name. Cadet Y/n L/n sounded almost like an insult. It didn’t take a genius to know that the captain doesn’t like you very much; perhaps some reason is your own fault. Even so, you felt like you didn’t deserve to be judged based off a first interaction.
Or, second interaction, if you count the captain’s claim that he met you during Trost. You couldn’t remember that no matter how hard you tried, in the same way you couldn’t remember Fable’s friend’s name.
Kathie Perrine stalked towards you and Levi, rolling her eyes practically to the back of her head when she recognized you. “Back for more?” she asked you.
She gestured a thin hand to one of the made beds.
You tried to crawl out of Levi’s hold. He didn’t let you. Instead, he placed you gently on the mattress.
And then he left.
You looked after him, shocked that he had managed to be so nimble and graceful looking even with his hand covered in your blood. You blushed as Kathie approached you, looking not as gentle as Levi had been. “What happened?”
You started to unbutton your shirt as she gestured for you, mumbling in a low voice, “I fell down the stairs.”
“You fell down the stairs?” Kathie said for confirmation. A little part of you was willing to be that she was repeating it to rub it in your face. She sighed. “Well, lay on your stomach girl. I’m going to have to close them up.”
You cringed. “Is there any way for me to be unconscious during this procedure?” You begged.
“Not unless you want me to hit you over the head with a lead pipe,” the doctor said. “I can give you a drink of whiskey, though,” she added hopefully.
You accepted.
You downed the two shots Kathie measured out for you before turning to lay on your stomach. Her hands were cold against the sticky, warm mess of your wounded back. They didn’t feel anything like the captain’s had.
You tried to focus on the captain’s hand as Kathie made the first stitch.
You wonder if he felt bad, at all. You wonder if he’s discussing just how lame and clumsy you are with Petra. Sure, a small part of you knows you slipped on your own accord, but majority of your brain blames the captain. He had to have known you’d just gotten out of the medical unit.
Oh, but maybe that’s just how it works in adult life. Perhaps you’re just used to being coddled by Commander Sadies; it was strange, thinking that Sadies was the nice one in comparison to the 5′3 captain.
“So, what happened?” Kathie asked.
You clutched onto a pillow, trying not to tear the fabric apart and release the feathers. “I fell down the stairs while mopping.”
Kathie snorted a laugh. You didn’t exactly appreciate it.
“Well,” she said, “I suppose you learned your lesson. I’m tempted to put you on bed rest...but, with Eren Jaeger’s trial coming up, you’ll need to attend.”
You strained your neck to look at Kathie. “Why do I need to attend?”
“The captain wants you to. Captain Ackerman, that is. He’s been postponing this trial for days, waiting for you to wake up. You were a key witness, you know. He was adamant that you attend. You’ll have to go in a wheelchair.”
You dropped your face into your pillow. “’Wheelchair?!’” you repeated, sounding (and feeling) mortified.
“Trust me, there’s lots of soldiers here that would kill to be put onto wheelchair rest. You’ll be in it for a week.”
“What about my room?”
“Hmm,” Kathie hummed as she did one last stitch. “I suppose you’ll be sleeping down here. I can send someone for your belongings, if you wish. Don’t worry, I won’t be too mean to you.”
You winced at the feeling of her stitching, taking comfort when she told you all she needed to do now was bandage you.
There was a small levee on the wall, made from a wooden handle that poured water from the embedded spout as she pulled it. Kathie dunked a cloth into the water bucket and grabbed a roll of cloth bandages from one of the taller cabinets on the wall.
You braced yourself for the freezing water, and hissed as Kathie put the cold washcloth to your skin.
“If you didn’t want to be uncomfortable, you shouldn’t have fallen down the stairs,” Kathie said in cool tone.
You turned your neck once to glare. “The captain put me on janitorial punishment,” you explained, your voice sounding just slightly snotty.
Kathie tutted. “So soon? I’ll have a word with the captain. Not the first time he’s overworked my patients.”
The captain has a history of this?
Ugh.
You pulled your pillow closer to your face. You focused on the fabric threads, your eyes going cross eyed, as you mumbled, “I don’t think he likes me very much.”
“Trust me, kid,” Kathie laughed. “He doesn’t like anyone.”
When the bandages were done, Kathie helped you roll over onto your back.
As you nuzzled down into the bed that would be yours for the next week, you had one thought that stood out against the others. Anyone, except for Petra.
“I’ll bring you a tray of dinner tonight, and with that you can take your painkiller. I’m giving you a stronger dose, so it might make your stomach uneasy. I’ll send someone up for your things here soon, alright?” Kathie set a folded, linen shirt on your lap. You were bracing your chest with the blanket from the cot.
“Alright,” you mumbled as you slowly tugged the cloth over your head. It’s not as though you have a choice. “Miss Perrine?” you call before she can leave.
“Yes?”
Your cheeks felt warm and rosy before you could speak. “Did you, by any chance, treat a patient by the name of Krista Lenz?”
Kathie shook her head without any thought. “She a friend of yours?”
“You could say that,” you shrugged. You didn’t want to feel to sad to hear that. It’s good to know that Krista wasn’t hurt.
“I can ask around. I’ll see if she’s stationed here. Do you want me to let you know?”
You carefully leaned back against the propped up pillow you pushed behind your neck. “That would be lovely,” you murmured. “Thank you, Miss Perrine.”
“Stop looking at me,” you mutter, positioning yourself again for hand-to-hand combat, “You are making it very hard to concentrate.”
“Huh? Did you say something?” Jean asked.
“Not talking to you,” you replied.
You then proceeded to throw a punch at his head. He blocked it and armed for your open stomach. You could have taken him down then and there but you decided to let him win.
You were on the ground in no time. You could get up and fight still, but you weren’t feeling it today.
“Hey, brat,” you heard Captain Levi yell, “You could have stopped him. Why are you holding back?”
“I’m not holding back,” you replied, getting up off the ground.
“Don't lie to me, cadet,” he said, “You. Me. Now.”
He walked a few feet away and turned to face you, positioning himself in a fighting stance. You did likewise, tempted to go in your old stance back when you were underground. You waited for Captain Levi to make the first move, hoping you can read his moves. After a minute, Levi tsked and came at you. You blocked his punch. You saw him begin his second attack. You could have blocked it, but you decided to let hit him, knowing he will take you down. As you predicted, you were on the ground again.
“Stop holding back,” He growled, “Again.”
He readjusted, waiting for you. You picked yourself off the ground again, tired of pretending. You positioned yourself in your old fighting stance. There was already a crowd around both of you. This time it was your turn to start. You began with a false punch, hoping he would fall for your trap. He didn’t. Quickly adapting to the situation, you were able to block him. Barely. He attacked again. This time you blocked it, more successfully. Then, you saw an opening. His stomach was open. You knew he could guard it, but you decided to try and hit him anyway.
BAM!
Your foot successfully hit the Captain, causing him to almost fall to the ground. Instincts from the underground kicking in, you swung your other leg. Your ankle colliding with the Captain’s head. He instantly crippled, falling to the ground with a loud thud.
You stood there, taking deep breaths, waiting for Levi to get up. He didn’t.
“Uhhhhhh… Captain?” you stuttered, horrified.
There was an awkwardly long pause before a brave cadet walked over to the Captain.
She crouched down and shook his shoulder, “Captain?”
No response.
“Heichou?”
Again, no response.
“Shorty?”
And, again, no response.
She checked his pulse and looked up at you, “At least you didn’t kill him.”
You let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding, falling to your knees.
“Fuck.”
Why did he go easy on me?
———
Soon after Levi was taken to the informatory. You were still on the training grounds. You haven’t moved an inch since you knocked the Captain unconscious.
You felt a hand on your shoulder. You looked up to see Jean.
“Come on that was amazing. You should be celebrating,” he said, pulling you up.
“What happens if he doesn’t wake up?” you asked, walking alongside Jean as you made your way back to the castle.
“Pfft. Oh, come on. This is Humanity’s Strongest we’re talking about. He’ll pull through,” Jean laughed, “Besides, if you’re so worried, you can just take over for him, considering you have been hiding your awesomeness.”
“That doesn’t sound too bad,” you mumbled.
Jean paused, “I was making a joke, but fine. If it makes you feel less guilty. I’m sure Commander Erwin wouldn’t mind.”
You huffed. Hunger leaving you, you walked toward Commander Erwin’s office.
———
You knocked on the door, grateful that the Commander wasn’t as scary as the Captain.
“Come in.”
You opened the door and saw the Commander writing on a piece of paper.
He looked up and smiled, “Hello Cadet L/N. I heard you took down Captain Levi. Congratulations.”
You didn’t return the smile, “I was thinking,” you paused, “If I am able to take care of Levi’s duties. Like doing his paperwork and making sure his office is clean.”
“You feel guilty about defeating Levi,” Commander Erwin commented.
“Yes, sir.”
He smiled again, “That is fine with me. You can take care of teaching the cadets hand-to-hand combat seeing that you’re at Levi’s level.”
“Sir, he held back. He could have blocked me.”
“Nonsense,” Erwin waved you off, “That doesn’t mean you can’t teach the cadets.”
“Okay, sir. I’ll teach the cadets, too.” you saluted and walked out.
———
You got some tea before going to Levi’s office to see if there was anything you can start on. You opened the door to find a stack of paperwork on his desk. Setting down your tea, you began going through it.
You worked through a good part of the evening and some of the night before you drifted off to sleep on Levi’s desk.
———
You woke up to the sound of knocking on the door.
“Name and business,” you stated, rubbing your eye.
Instead of getting an answer the door opened to reveal a crazed Hange.
“I thought I might find you here!” they cheered, “Little Miss Captain Levi~”
“Hange,” you hissed, getting up and running your hand through your hair, “Don’t you have some experiment to perform on Eren or something?”
“Hehe, nope! But you do have 3DMG training starting soon.”
“Oh,” you replied, your body too tired to care about being late.
“Now, don’t get all lazy with Shorty gone,” Hange scolded while grinning.
You walked past them, deciding to ignore them as they tried to talk to you about how you were able to take down ‘Humanity’s Strongest’.
You were almost at the woods, Hange still following you and talking, when you snapped.
“He held back! He could have blocked me! He didn’t! And now he is in the informatory lying unconscious in a bed!” you yelled, making Hange take a few steps back in surprise.
“Whoa there, Miss Levi,” Hange said, raising their arms, “No need to become Shorty after what you did.”
“Who’s going to do his paperwork? Or keep his office clean?” you hissed, walking off.
———
You were back in Levi’s office, working on the endless amounts of paperwork.
“No wonder he is always in a bad mood,” you muttered, sipping your tea.
Someone knocked on the door.
“Name and business,” you droned, picking up your pen and began writing again.
“It’s Jean,” you heard him snicker, “Miss Captain Levi~”
“Enter,” you droned again, complete fed up with everyone’s bullshit.
Jean walked in and saluted. Even though you were of the same rank, you did nothing to say he didn’t have to do that. In truth, you were glad at least someone had the decency to act like you were someone.
“I come as a representative of all the cadets,” Jean stated, “I have come to ask if you would partake in a deal.”
“Deal?” you asked, “Is this some cruel joke?”
“Well…” he rubbed the back of his head, “We will bring you your meals and tea here for you. And you can ask for favors if you need and we will do them.”
“As long?”
He sighed, smirking slightly, “As long as you wear Levi’s cravat and shirt and style your hair.”
“Deal.”
“W-what?” he stuttered, “You agree?”
“Yes,” you said, “Now, go and get me some tea, brat.”
———
The next morning, you styled your hair and put on one of Levi’s shirts. You also were successful in putting on one of Levi’s cravats.
Doesn’t look too bad. Just like Levi. You snicker. I even have the bags under my eyes.
—Week Later—
Over the next week, you basically became Miss Captain Levi. You acted like him, except for the punishments. You were a slightly kinder version of Levi. But it has been getting worse the longer Captain Levi stays over. You were becoming scared. Scared that he wouldn’t wake up. Scared that a mediocre cadet like yourself beat Humanity’s Strongest into a coma.
Well, you weren’t mediocre. You lived in the underground. When you were ten a man named Kenny taught you how to fight. As quickly he came, he went. You never saw him again. You didn’t mind. You fought there. You fought to live. Fought to become a soldier. A soldier with the Wings of Freedom flying on their back.
—Levi’s POV—
I woke up and squinted. Damn light. When my eyes adjusted I found myself in the informatory. What? Then, I remembered. I was hit on the head by Y/N. Where did she learn that? A nurse came up to me.
“How long have I been out?” I asked her.
“A week, sir.”
I was already in the corridor, heading toward my office. There were Cadets yelling about how I was awake. Tsk, news will reach everywhere before I even get to my office.
—Y/n’s POV—
Someone slammed my door open, “Levi’s awake. He is heading here!”
“Shit!” you yelled, “Get out! Don’t tell him I was here!”
You ran to a window, slamming it open and jumping down. You were on the second floor but you were not risking Levi seeing you like this. As you hit the ground running, you took off his cravat and threw it away. You always had a tank top under his shirt so you took that off too. I’m going to need to wash off to get my hair back in order.
You ran to the shower complex and immediately stuck your head under the water. After drying your hair, you took a deep breath, trying to slow down your rapid heartbeat.
“Captain Shorty wants to see you,” Hange said behind you.
“Didn’t take him long,” you mutter, “What do you think I’m doing?”
“Removing all trace that you were his ‘imposter’ as he’s calling it.”
You turn to them, wide-eyed, “He saw me?!”
“Only that someone that was dressed like him jumped out of his window. Don’t worry Little Miss Captain Shorty, he doesn’t know. Yet.”
You threw your towel at them, hitting them in the face.
———
You shook as you stood outside Levi’s office. The office you were now so familiar with. The one you slept in for the past week working on the endless current of paperwork. Putting on a brave face, you knocked.
“Name and Business.”
God, I haven’t heard that voice in forever. I almost miss it.
You shook your head, “Cadet L/N. Hange said you wanted me.”
The door opened to reveal a very untidy Levi. He glared at you.
“Why was someone acting as me?”
You swallowed, “I don't know, sir.”
“Liar. Who are they?” he snarled.
“I-I can’t say, sir,” you mumbled, looking down.
“Tsk.” he started to close the door.
“Sir,” you said, stopping the door and looking at his eyes, “Why didn’t you block me? Why were you holding back?”
“I wasn’t holding back.”
“You could have stopped me!” you pleaded, eyes watering, “I know you could have blocked it! So, why didn’t you?!”
“Don’t yell to your superior,” he commanded.
“Just tell me!” you cried, “You were out for a week! Do you know how much guilt I felt, every! Single! Day! I even punished myself for what happened!”
Tears were threatening to fall down your face. You turned away and ran, unable to look at Levi anymore.
———
You made it to the dorms without anyone seeing you. You leaned against the door, wiping the tears away.
It was his fault. He didn’t block.
You took a shaky breath and laid in your bed, looking at the bottom of the top bunk.
You didn’t go to dinner that day.
———
You were walking to the mess hall when you were suddenly pushed against a wall. You were about to snap at them when you realized it was Levi.
“I want you to give a message to this ‘imposter’,” he glared at you, “Tell them that when I find them, that I will slice every piece of skin from their body until they are a mutated mess. Then I will beat them so that they aren’t even recognizable as a human being.”
You were horrified, to say the least. It took all your willpower to not burst out in tears.
“Got that cadet?”
You could barely get out a ‘yes sir’, your voice disappearing after hearing Levi’s words.
He turned and walked away, but you called out, “You should be thanking them. They did nothing but help you. They kept your office clean and took care of your paperwork. Just imagine if they didn't take care of your things when you were out.”
———
You decided to stay in your room for the rest of your day. Not caring if anyone missed you. You felt like shit.
—Levi’s POV—
“Y/N was the ‘imposter’?!” I yelled at Erwin.
He sighed, facepalming, “There was no ‘imposter', Levi. Just unfortunate circumstances.”
I grit my teeth, “What do you mean?”
“I mean, when Y/N kicked you out she felt extremely guilty and cared for your office. Soon she became your kinder replacement and the cadets made a deal with her that if she dressed like you she would get food delivered to your office and favors.”
I snorted. What idiots.
“And now she is probably scared shitless of you.”
I groaned. Why did I have to be such an ass!
—Y/N’s POV—
‘I have locked the door… No one should be able to come in.’ The door burst off its hinges. ‘Goddamnit.’
You glanced over to see Captain Levi, who was out of breath for some reason.
Oh shit! It’s Levi! You immediately go to your backup plan of jumping out the window. You felt the Captain try to grab you as you rolled through the window.
“I just want to talk, Y/N!” Captain Levi yelled, climbing through the window.
You paused which was a mistake because that Levi soon grabbed your wrist so you weren’t able to run away. You refused to look at him.
You heard him sigh, “I’m sorry for being an ass. But please understand that I just woke up and to realize there was someone dressing like me who was in my office doing who knows what didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t need my office to be dirty by some mere cadet.”
You almost laughed, but a weak sigh escaped your lips instead.
“I forgive you,” you said, hoping he was satisfied with that answer and leave you alone.
“Saying those words and meaning them are different things,” he replied.
“Forgiveness doesn’t mean a thing to me. Where I grew up, there was no forgiveness or trust. When we were sparring, I felt like my life was in danger again and I couldn’t stop myself from my instincts,” you said, taking a glance at Levi before looking at the ground again.
“I know a place like that,” Levi muttered, awkwardly bringing me into a hug.
“I’m feeling more awkward than comfort,” you muttered.
Summary: It's a typical day in your household. It all started with Charlotte getting into Levi's tea collection and now Levi was marching out the door with you thrown over his shoulder and his mini-me following at his heel. -Charlotte is 5 in this story-

Mini-Me
“Ok brat”, said Levi, his arms crossed in front of his chest. “tell me the truth”, he insisted his brows furrowing, “Did you mess with my teas?”, he asked eyes narrowing down at the small child by his feet. Charlotte blinked, steel eyes widening innocently staring up at Levi. Her lip quivered. He sighed closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose. He couldn’t stay angry at her. Not when she was looking at him like that. “Just-”, he began opening his eyes again, “Just don’t do it again”, he said kneeling towards her. Charlotte looked at him, her lips still pushing downwards, “I’m sorry daddy”, she said quietly as she fiddled with her hands. Levi’s eyes widened, his chest in pain.
That had done it.
Now Charlotte could chuck every teapot in the house out the window and he would let her.
You watched, in amusement, from the couch, sipping silently the tea you had brewed earlier in the morning. A small smile dangled from your lips. Not even you had the Lance Corporal wrapped so tightly around your finger.
“It’s ok”, he cooed enveloping Charlotte’s small frame between his arms. His hand stroke the back of her head. Your eyes softening at the heart-warming scene. But then, Charlotte stretched, pushing her little feet to her tippy-toes and reached up to grasp Levi’s neck the best she could. Levi’s eyes shut relishing the moment, the hand wrapping around her little body tightening. He could hear her soft breathing around his neck. His heart could stop.
“Daddy!”, came her soft voice again, “You’re squeezing too hard”, she complained wiggling in his embrace. You smiled widely. Levi didn’t let go immediately, soaking up the few seconds he delayed letting the small girl go. But when he did, he didn’t let her too out of his reach. “Sorry”, he muttered, his eyes filled with warmth.
Charlotte started to bounce from her heels. She did this when she thought of an idea. Normally, these ideas required the help of your husband, for the most part. You see, Charlotte was 80% Levi and 20% you. She, of course, inherited features like the shape of your eyes and a couple of moles here and there, but to anyone that had eyes, she was a carbon copy of Levi. She had straight black long hair, his steel-grey eyes and, from how she had managed to get to his tea collection, she was an Ackerman through and through.
Sometimes you wondered if Levi would be more carefree and show more emotions if his upbringing had been different. Would he also clench his fist and pout just waiting to burst an idea out? You chuckled. Now that would be a sight.
“What are you laughing at?”, he asked, his eyebrows knitting together. Charlotte, following Levi, also turned to look at you, pout still in place. But this time her eyebrows mirrored Levi’s. You laughed. You couldn’t hold it in. Which only made them both frown. You laughed even harder spilling some of the liquid on the couch. “Tch”, Levi said getting up from the floor. “Th”, said Charlotte now looking up at Levi, never letting her little fist relax.
Your eyes watered.
This was too much.
Too funny.
“Oi”, said Levi, now hoovering over your trembling body, his hands holding his hips, “What’s so funny, huh”, he said both curiously and now a bit annoyed. You genuinely couldn’t talk. From behind him Charlotte tried copying his posture, puffing her little chest out. Another burst of laughter erupted from you. Levi’s nose flared. “We’ll see who’s laughing in a few hours”, he said leaning over you, hands grabbing you by your waist. “Wait! Levi! My tea!!”, you shouted. To no avail. In a quick movement, he lifted you up from the couch. You squealed, no longer laughing. “Put me down!”, you demanded making him smirk. “No”, he answered cooly, throwing you over his shoulder. The remaining tea spilling over the floor. He swirled to look at the wet floor. “Tch, we’ll clean that later”, he said, eyes narrowing at the splatter.
“Th”, came Charlotte little voice once more. You giggled, looking at your daughter. Levi’s grey eyes widened finally understanding what you were laughing at. He smiled and playfully gave your ass a slap. “Stop making fun of our daughter”, he said chuckling. It was your turn to pout. “I am not”, you argued making him chuckle again. “Common, let’s go to a tea shop”, he said marching towards the door, Charlotte already trotting behind him. “Hey! Put me down!”, you demanded, your hands reaching for your dress, making sure it covered your ass. “Not a chance”, he said opening the front door.

It's Just a Hobby
Sheeeeeeek
It was a sharp, almost metallic in nature shriek. You tossed in your sleep, your brain still half unconscious.
Had you imagined it?
It sounded familiar. Where you having another dream of your time at the Corps?
All this talk about Charlotte joining the military was definitely not doing you any favours. It was scratching at the back of your head the obscure memories you kept hidden away. Ever since you had pushed Levi into taking her to work, every night, without fail, the deformed hands of your demons came to grab you at night.
Yesterday Levi had shaken you awake. You were sweating in your sleep, haunted by the last expression of your friends, of your family. Some nights, your dreams were so vivid that you were convinced that the life you had now was… imagined.
How had Charlotte convinced you that it was a good idea to join? Ah, yes, her unwavering spirit. Stubborn and passionate to the core, just like her father. Erwin had earned Levi and his constant devotion to the cause had earned Charlotte.
Truly, she had worn you down. She would talk as if she had been in the military for as long as she was alive. She had convinced every single one of her friends to join. Of course, she had worn you down. Children, you had discovered, had a way to make you feel like you could endure anything as long as it made them happy. Even if that meant spinning directly into a titan’s jaws. You shivered. Tonight, marked the beginning of winter and with it the fast approach of harsh months.
How could you selfishly stand in her way? She was the carbon copy of your husband, down to his unhuman like traits. She was fast and strong, but that didn’t make her cocky, it made her aware of just how far she could go. So when she had implored you to let her join the military… You caved because you knew your daughter, nothing you could say, not even the hellish nightmares you conjured now, would deter her from joining.
Levi could though. You didn’t have the heart or the will power to stand against her, she was, after all, a force of nature like Levi. So, it made sense that he could and did stand against her. So firmly opposed that he would rather sacrifice his relationship with her than watch her wear forest green.
I would never want to feel responsible if something were to happen to you.
His words had rung deep within you. Levi was strong, the strongest in fact. He had carried with his best friend’s death, carried the guilt of every death, carried the title of strongest, but, he could never carry the responsibility of the death of his only child.
Your heart ached. For months now, you had tried to convince yourself that you already waited with your heart of your throat every time Levi sat you down at the kitchen table to tell you there would be a new excursion. You could do the same with Charlotte. Right?
It was different. You knew it was different. You were all too aware of it. So, you settled. Settled to be thankful that where you lack the willpower, Levi could. Maybe, you had thought, that having her shadow Levi for a couple of days would show her a glimpse into a world she could never have thought of. You hadn’t. Not even Levi, who lived in the underground, had.
Sheeeeeek
You shot up. Straight up.
That had been the sound of a knife getting sharpened.
In a panic, your eyes scanned the room, your hand already reaching for your bedside table, inching into the drawer on the hidden weapon inside. You could feel your heart lodged in your trachea. All you could think was of your daughter and how to get to her as quick as possible. But, then, your eyes landed at the corner at the far back. It was Levi, seated in the leather chair he liked so much.
Relief, ice-cold relief washed over your stiffened body. Instantly, you relaxed at the sight of the familiar presence. Your heart unable to dislodge from your throat, the exhaustion weighing down at your body once again.
What the hell was he doing?
Shreeeeeeek
You felt a new wave of alertness wash over you. Something glimmered, you squinted, your tiered eyes fell to his lap.
There was a blade.
Shreeeeeeek
He was sharpening his blades.
He was sharpening his blades.
He was sharpening his blades at three in the morning.
Oh, God.
Shreeeeeeek
Cried the sound of metal. He was hunched in the chair, hadn’t bothered taking off his uniform, or boots for that matter. His right leg on top of his left thigh. One of his blades rested across his lap. You sat there watching as he expertly manoeuvred the blade making it glimmer even in the darkest of nights.
Something was bothering him.
You sighed, the adrenalin leaving your body. It had been a minute since you last felt it course through your body like earlier. You had genuinely thought that there had been an intruder in the house. You were a light sleeper, years retired from the military could never kill that habit. It had saved you more than once.
You wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep until you untangled whatever Levi’s brain was scrambling. It was Charlotte, you were sure of it. After the little incident at the beginning of the week, she had somehow squeezed a promise to not react like he did that day. How she did it you would never know. It took years -years- to get him to not impulsively confront any man that would even slightly look at you the wrong way. You were certain that something must have happened again and the frustration of being powerless had him sitting, sharpening his disposable blades at such an ungodly hour.
This was it. The time had come to have “The Talk” with Levi. You had been preparing for this ever since Charlotte turned sixteen. You had already noticed the attention she garnered whenever she accompanied you to the market. How some of her oldest male friends would stare a second too long. It was bound to happen eventually. You had prepared for it, Levi… not so much.
“Morning”, you said the bedsheets still pooled at your waist. Even with the window closed, you could feel the cold air prickling your skin, like small needles. He frowned, not really expecting you to wake up. He had already spent an hour on his other blades, this was his last one. “How was work today?”, you insisted. He grunted. He at least acknowledged you. He wasn’t feeling all that talkative at the moment.
Shreeeeeek
The sound of the metal echoing across the room. This man was impossible. Like father, like daughter, two stubborn mules unwilling to bend or move in their convictions. You were convinced that when God created stubbornness, Levi was first in line, closely followed by Charlotte.
“Somethings never change”, you thought shaking you head slightly. Unceremoniously, you yanked the sheets from your lower body. You shivered, the cold air now attacking your legs. Levi’s face remained turned down, his eyes, however, sneaked a peek at you. He had heard you move. You were, to his dismay, heading towards his direction. He noticed the hair of your forearms standing to attention. You were cold. He clicked his tongue; he wasn’t ready to go to bed, anger still bubbling at his feet. He frowned, returning his attention at the weapon in his hand.
Shreeeeeeek
“Are are you angry?”, he heard you ask softly. No answer. You grouched in front of his legs so that your face was in his direct eyesight. He gripped the handle of the blade, his eyes moving to observe the end of it. He was avoiding you. “no.”, he curtly answered. He looked stoic. “Stubborn, stubborn man”, you thought. You placed a numbed hand on his twisted knee. His eyebrows knitted together refusing to look at you, opting to look at your hand. You looked paler than usual.
Did she have another nightmare?
You smiled amused, “So sharpening your blades at three in the morning is just a hobby then?”, you asked sarcastically. His frown deepened, he didn’t answer. “Tell me what’s bothering you”, you pushed, the tips of your fingers going a bit numb. He sighed knowing you weren’t going to let this go and if needed would freeze half to death until he talked. “And you think Charlotte is stubborn because of me”, he thought. Charlotte, he frowned again the anger bubbling up again.
“Is it Charlotte?”, you asked, even softer than before. You gripped his knee in reassurance. He sighed again, of course, you would know exactly what was bothering him. He couldn’t hide anymore. “I can’t believe she is sixteen”, you said truthfully.
Sixteen years went by like nothing, one day she was too small to even reach the kitchen counter and the next she had a queue of boys lined up. “Fucking hormonal teenagers”, he thought to himself glaring down at the polished blade. He wanted to break the thing in two.
“Our brat is an adult now”, you said giggling pulling him again out of his thoughts. His eyes lifted slightly to look at you, clearly disagreeing with your opinion. Charlotte wasn’t an adult; she was just a brattier brat. “Did one of the cadets flirt with her again?”, you asked smiling sympathetically. His eyes widened and immediately narrowed to the point you thought he had closed his eyes. His jaw clenched, his grip on the weapon made his knuckles turn white.
“A boy”, he corrected. You smiled sadly at his words. “You know she is at that age”, you said earning you a glare. “You know I’m right”, you insisted. He clicked his tongue. You were right. That doesn’t mean he had to voice it. “I know this is very hard for you”, you continued, he looked pained. It had taken everything in him today to not march and punch the titan shifter straight in the face. He knew the look he was giving Charlotte; it was the same look he had given you. He felt his chest burn.
His eyes looked pained, the cold controlled captain melting away. You wanted to hug him, console him and tell him that his baby was still just that: a baby. That Charlotte would not grow up and that she would always call him ‘Daddy’. But this would only hurt him more and would do Charlotte a disservice as her mother.
“Here”, you said standing up offering a hand for him to take. He looked at your hand, eyebrow cocked upwards with curiosity. You rolled your eyes, “Well, take it”, you insisted shaking your hand. Cautiously, he placed his free hand on yours. His eyes narrowing when he felt how cold your fingers felt. In a quick movement, he rested the sharpened blade against the nearest wall and grabbed with both his hands the hand you had offered. “You’re cold”, he commented, making you roll your eyes again at him. “Well hurry up then”, you answered pulling him up. He pouted, finally complying with your request.
You pulled him out of the room towards the hallway in front of Charlotte’s room. His frown returned, “What are we doing here”, he asked, not appreciating the surprise. “Shh”, you said tightening your hold on his hand. As carefully as you could you opened the door to your daughter’s room. She looked tranquil, completely at ease. “Look”, you whispered moving out of the way. Reluctantly, he peaked into Charlotte’s room. His eyes softened and his chest, previously burning with anger, filled with warmth. She looked like a child hugging her favourite stuffed animal. “She isn’t quite an adult yet”, you whispered, “not because some boy is flirting with her means she stopped growing”.
He sighed closing the door just as carefully as you had opened it.
“Let’s have another one”, he said turning to look at you straight to your eyes. “What?”, you said in complete shock. “Let’s have another one”, he repeated closing the gap between the both of you. “What?”, you repeated louder, his hands grabbing your hips. “I said”, he whispered pulling you towards him, “Let’s”, you heard him next to your ear, “have”, you felt his breath on your neck, his nose caressing the base of your neck, “another one”. His teeth dug into your soft skin.

The flower shop owner next door
✥ The building next door had always been empty. Like many buildings on the street, it has two floors. The first floor was intended for a shop and the second for living. It was bigger than your modest flower shop too. But now? It was getting painted with a fresh coat of navy colour.
✥ The first time you had seen him was when the workers that had been buzzing around the last week and a half had finished just some small maintenance. He was using a wheelchair, half his face was scared deeply, two of his fingers missing. He looked impassive, so tranquil as he stared at what had been a ghost building before.
✥ He had caught you looking too. He didn’t smile, you didn’t either. Instead, his long eyelashes blinked and he nodded in your direction. You had been watering the plants on display. Your throat had felt a little dry.
✥ He was, apparently, not alone either. Two kids had moved in with him; Gabi and Falco. They opened a tea shop. At first, you had thought them to be his actual children, turns out he was more of a guardian.
✥ Gabi came often to your shop. She always made you laugh. Always giggling and her eyes filled with curiosity every time you showed her a new type of flower.
✥ The first time you had gone into the tea shop was because of Gabi’s insisting you try Levi’sblends- that had been his name. You had seen him a couple of times since that first day and he always nodded in your direction.
✥ The shop was not fancy, but the second you stepped in, the aroma of a fresh black tea brew hit your nose. He was legit. Most tea shops weren’t really that good. The last time you had tried good tea had been before the war.
✥ This time he was using a shiny black cane. So he could walk. Gabi had told you about how they were all soldiers and had hinted that Levi had been a great one at that. You could never imagine what he had to live through to have sustained those injuries.
✥ He looked up from the end of the shop, his steal winter eyes meeting yours. He looked tranquil. The gentle breeze coming in from the opened store door softly made his black locks dance. “Hello”, your voice came out more like a whisper than anything else. “Hello”, he answered back. His voice was deep and calm, like the ocean.
✥ His eyes turned to your hands. You brought with you a bouquet of pink roses with pear blossoms. “Gabi invited me over”, you felt like you had to explain. “I see”, he answered. He was handsome. “Do you like black tea?”, his rich voice filled the empty shop. “Yes”, you replied your eyes glued on his figure. “Do you care for a cup?”, he asked already reaching for a second cup. “Yes, thank you”, you said walking into the store.
✥ “I can take care of those”, he said eyeing the flowers. “O-of-course”, you stammered feeling him brush his fingers against your own as he took the bouquet. You watched as he retreated behind the counter and pulled a vase from one of the cupboards. “You own the flower shop next door, right?”, he asked his attention on filling a quarter of the vase with water. “I do”, you answered as he delicately placed the flowers into the vase. “Most customers come in carrying a bouquet”, he commented placing the vase next to the cash register. “Most of my customers can’t stop complimenting your blends”, you noted. He smiled. He looked... genuinely pleased.
✥ Turned out Gabi was out but he insisted you stay and enjoy the rest of the teapot. That afternoon had passed by in a blink of an eye. You learned that he liked to read, mostly classics but he also liked history books, mostly to do with myths and old Gods. His tea was also amazing, finally, someone who knew tea. The two of you had gone through three teapots; black tea, oolong and Assam. The day had ended with him inviting you to try green tea blends that weekend and you promising to bring more flowers and biscuits.
✥ It became a routine really. You coming over with new flower combinations and biscuits from the bakery a few doors down. He would make you try new blends or new tea from a different supplier. You had started reading the books he recommended, they were
actually good. On the weekends you would take Gabi and Falco to dinner in town. It was a comfortable routine.
✥ You were a regular in his life, it became rare the days you wouldn’t stop by. You had added game night to the routine. Gabi falling asleep mid-game, Falco dozing off on the couch. By now, you knew their house like your own. Levi would also come more often to the flower shop. It happened slowly, sometimes you would feel his eyes linger the slight brush of his fingers on your hand igniting your skin.
✥ The day finally came a particularly chilly night, the kids were asleep you were in the living room picking up the teacups to take to the kitchen. “You know”, came Levi’s voice from the door frame. “This weekend”, he started your face twisting to look at him, “We should go to that French restaurant”, he suggested his arms crossed in front of his chest. “Sure, I think Falco will really like that”, you answered smiling. You heard his breath out heavily, “I mean just you and me”, he corrected his eyes watching your every move. Your heart could have stopped. He was asking you out. “Ok”, you breathed out.
✥ You felt nervous wearing the nicest dress you owned, even wearing a delicate pair of black heels to match. He knocked on your door, your breath got caught in your throat when you saw him; white button-down shirt and a nice jacket to match. He brought you your favourite blend which made you smile. After you went to drop his gift at your kitchen, he offered you his arm and grabbed his bicep. You blushed a little feeling firm muscles behind the thin shirt. You had always wondered how strong he was, even years after the war he was very muscular.
✥ The night had gone better than you could have imagined, it wasn’t awkward, in fact, it felt even more natural than the routine you had developed. After dinner you went on a walk around the streets, stopping to sit on a bench when his leg started to bother him. You had rested your head on his shoulder, which made him inhale sharply. You giggled, feeling him narrow his eyes at you.
✥ After a while you took your head off his shoulder and turned to look at him, his grey eyes already awaiting you. He leaned in the tip of his nose ticking your cheek. You closed your eyes feeling soft lips touch yours. He kissed you softly, it was a peck really. You felt him retreat and opened your eyes. You smiled gently up to him and he leaned in again this time moving against your lips.
✥ That night had established a new routine for you.
