Tate stared up at the sky from his spot in the grass. He’d come to the park about an hour or two earlier to go for a run, collapsing onto the grass when he was finished and lacking the motivation to get up again. Besides, the sky was beautiful, especially once the stars appeared. “Ever gone stargazing?” he asked the person he’d seen out of the corner of his eye.

staring down at the textbook and back at her notes, she let out a frustrated sigh. with her leg bouncing a mile a minute and her pencil tapping against the table, she couldn’t help but feel frustrated. she didn’t understand why she needed to know what a quadratic equation was or how to do it. if there’s one thing audrey loathed, it was math. everything was fine until they started bringing in formulas and as soon as she got the hang of one, they went to the next one and she was confused all over again. “how the fuck am i supposed to know if it’s fucking discriminant is positive?” she whispered to herself. dropping her pencil, she let her hands go to her face only to slide down dramatically. “go to school, they said. it’ll be fun, they said.” she mocked under her breath.

A spattering of colors stain the arch of his cheeks, and the tips of his fingers. Heavy paint strokes create the character, yellows and reds blending seamlessly in inquisitive doe eyes, and jet blacks pulling together furrowed brows and thick lashes. His head tilts in question, teeth pressing against chapped brims. “So, question.” It’s deadpan, brain filtering over ways to make the art piece BETTER. “Who’s your favorite character?” Another pause, “If you say Draco Malfoy, you’re cancelled.”

“kodak get back here!” she called out in a huff, breathing in brilliant wisps of night air the moment after despite the oxygen being hard on her tired and worn lungs. with the end of summer briskly approaching now that the school year had started up once more, the temperature had already begun its descent, dipping below 50 just the night before in welcome of the coming season. and while the petite brunette didn’t normally mind such conditions, walking the rambunctious canine almost seemed like that much more of a chore. especially, now that the animal had managed to dash off ahead of her, the leash completely lost to her grip. it was someone else, though, who’d found the dog’s attention, effectively distracting kodak enough to allow for birdie’s feet to finally catch up and grab the leash nestling in the grass. “god, i’m so sorry, he gets so excited and he just took off. what did i tell you, mister?” she explained, directing the last of her sentence towards the chocolate colored dog happily wagging his tail at the present company. “seriously, excuse this one’s manners.”
