Flashback

A younger Vanderwood was sitting in a metal chair inside a dimly lit room, it’s walls were concrete except one that was lined with mirrors.  The agent’s form was shaking ever so slightly as he tried to regain his composure back after what had just happened to him a few hours prior. The only noise coming from this room was the voice from a man sitting across from Vanderwood, his face was cold as he as he spoke in a stern tone to the other male. “It wasn’t your fault agent Vanderwood, it was her mistake that got you both into that mess and she was the one who paid the price. If you went back to get her, you would have been caught and killed as well. Getting away was the correct choice and the agency commends you for your quick thinking. That being said, you do have to get over her. I understand this is your first time losing a partner, however, this will not be the last time in this line of work. Let this be a lesson to never get close to anybody, not even those you work with. With that said, your next mission is in three days agent Vanderwood and I expect you to be ready for it. Use these three days time to get your thoughts back in order as you would not want your ex partner’s fate to happen to you as well. That is all agent Vanderwood, you are dismissed.” With that the the agent got up and left Vanderwood alone in the room. Vnderwood’s form was shaking more now and he turned away from the mirror, not wanting the people behind it to see him……
