A proposed ballot measure in California that would increase taxes on its wealthiest residents has Pro-Trump billionaire Peter Thiel considering cutting ties with the Golden State, and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) felt compelled to weigh in on the news with a sarcastic quip.
“Peter Thiel is leaving California if we pass a 1% tax on billionaires for 5 years to pay for healthcare for the working class facing steep Medicaid cuts,” Khanna said Friday night in a social media post on X. “I echo what [former President Franklin D. Roosevelt] said with sarcasm of economic royalists when they threatened to leave, ‘I will miss them very much.’”
The ballot measure is known as the California Billionaire Tax Act, and would impose a one-time 5% tax on the net worth of residents and part-time residents worth more than $1 billion. To appear on next year’s ballot, it must receive just over 870,000 signatures, and is currently in the signature-gathering phase.

The honest objection is sincerity. Greta may believe every word. Lizzo may be sincere, and Khanna may have been genuinely shaken. I will grant all of it, because it changes nothing. A market never asks whether the seller believes in the product. It asks whether the product sells. What the last three years have demonstrated, in the follower counts and the chart positions, is that anti-Israel positioning is the most reliable comeback vehicle in Western public life. The same vehicle carried a MAGA communist, a progressive congressman, a punk act nobody had heard of, and a pop star everyone had forgotten. Its passengers share no ideology and no audience. The one thing they share is a need for the spotlight.
I will not accuse Ro Khanna of sitting in a minibus calculating engagement. He did not need to. The calculation was finished long before he landed, and every public figure in decline can read the results. The exit from irrelevance runs through Israel, and it stays open because it keeps paying. Platforms reward the rage with reach. Institutions fold after a single news cycle, and audiences keep accepting each conveniently timed awakening as conversion rather than commerce. At the Tel Aviv Institute, we have started logging these comebacks, with dates, follower counts, and revenue. Somewhere out there is a fading name none of us could guess today, someone about to discover the Palestinian cause at the exact moment a career requires it. When that awakening is announced, it will land in our log as one more entry, right on schedule.
🚨 RO KHANNA’S WEST BANK STORY IS COLLAPSING UNDER SCRUTINY 🚨
Representative Ro Khanna rushed to the media claiming that Israeli soldiers and armed settlers “detained” him and his delegation for more than an hour in the West Bank.
But video footage and Israeli accounts raise serious questions about whether this was a detention at all, or a politically manufactured confrontation designed to feed an anti-Israel narrative.
The footage reportedly shows Khanna’s convoy being stopped near a restricted military area, security personnel requesting proper authorization, Israeli forces arriving, and the road eventually being opened.
No arrest.
No handcuffs.
No one taken into custody.
No violent confrontation.
Yet Khanna presented the incident as though the Israeli military had unlawfully detained a sitting member of Congress.
That is not a minor exaggeration. That is a serious accusation against a U.S. ally, and it demands evidence.
Israel’s ambassador, Yechiel Leiter, has said Khanna declined opportunities to coordinate the visit with Israeli authorities and the U.S. Embassy. Khanna reportedly traveled with Palestinian activists and J Street affiliates on a trip centered almost entirely on allegations against Israel.
He also reportedly declined opportunities to meet families affected by the October 7 massacre or visit communities devastated by Hamas terrorism.
That tells us a great deal about the purpose of this trip.
This did not appear to be a balanced fact-finding mission.
It looked like political theater.
Khanna arrived with a narrative, entered a sensitive area without proper coordination, encountered a security delay, and then ran to the media claiming he had been “detained.”
Now the full, unedited video must be released.
Release the timestamps.
Release the communications with the U.S. Embassy.
Release the military orders governing the area.
Release every minute of footage.
If Khanna’s version is accurate, the evidence will support him.
But if the video shows a routine security stop being inflated into an international incident, then he owes Israel, the IDF, and the American public an apology.
Israel should be held accountable when wrongdoing occurs.
But politicians must also be held accountable when they exploit Israel for headlines, fundraising, ideological theater, or presidential ambition.
The American people deserve facts.
Not selective footage.
Not activist propaganda.
Not another manufactured anti-Israel scandal.
