The Love Library: A Curious Archer Valentine’s Day Spectacular
Curious Archer is one of the most beloved romances of Once Upon a Time. While only given a little over half a season to shine, they took advantage of every second they were given and endeared themselves to basically every Season 7 fan’s heart.
And what’s honestly not to love? Their story is simple in its conception (Seemingly mean girl and seemingly naive girl fall for each other), but is given nuance within those parameters to challenge one another and allow their characters’ other qualities to enrich their story in both their real and cured lives. Not only that, in a series that never got a lot of LGBTQ+ representation, Alice and Robin were loud and proud with an adorable love story that could simultaneously be utterly heartwarming and tackle topics like mental health issues and trauma. That’s...a lot to accomplish in eleven episodes, but there’s few who would say that Curious Archer didn’t absolutely stick the landing.
So, with Alice and Robin’s first real Valentine’s Day since their love story was revealed on the horizon and plenty of ships doing events, I figured I’d throw one together!
What I propose is -- in the spirit of Alice and Robin’s first date -- a fun and relaxed library of original Curious Archer works to get us all in that Valentine’s Day spirit. You don’t necessarily have to theme your works to Valentine’s Day, but I of course encourage it! Among the type of works that will be accepted are fanfics, fanart, gifsets, edits, manips -- you get the picture: if it has Alice and Robin in it, I want it! Hell! Do something really out there even in the spirit of Alice and Robin!
As for the date, I want to do something a little special. Valentine’s Day is gonna be plenty packed with works from every ship under the sun, so this event is gonna be a spanned event so we can wet some whistles, get in on the action, and deliver a nice last punch of love when it’s all over. This event will run from Wednesday, February 13, 2019 until Friday, February 15, 2019. I’ll also accept late submissions until Saturday, February 16, 2019.
How do you participate, you may ask? Well, just create your great work and be sure to tag this blog and I’ll post it over here! It’s as easy as that! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, be sure to let me know, but otherwise, get creating!

🔥+Curious Archer?
I absolutely love them!! Alice and Robin, with only half a season of development, grew to be one of the cutest couples on the show! I think their strength as a couple comes from the overall simplicity of their narrative that allows for a good and solid foundation for their love story to bloom while letting more nuanced bits like Margot and Tilly tackling Tilly’s “bad days.” And, of course, I’d be remiss -- especially as a bi woman -- not to point out just how incredible it is seeing an openly lesbian couple who are universally accepted in the universe of the show and that don’t fall into any of the tropes that many LGBTQ couples often fall into (Ex. Bury Your Gays). Alice and Robin are these strong, young adults with so much energy and charisma. Watching a fluffy scene with them feels like the first bit of wind after a long summer -- energizing and refreshing -- and Curious Archer has fluffy moments in spades! Even when a scene isn’t fully fluffy, we still see moments of comfort from one of them to the other, and the only exception to this is when Robin keeps Alice locked up. It’s honestly such a ship of dreams and the more I think about them, the deeper I fall for their love.
Also, if I may take a moment to plug, I’m doing a Curious Archer Valentine’s Day project later this month!!!
The thing I love about Alice and Robin is that we started in the middle of their story, and that makes it so much richer to me.
It's like, there's so much backstory to think about that necessarily happened — they had their meet cute, they had relationship development, they they told their parents and both parents know that it's serious, to the point that in each case, both Killian and Zelena know that their daughter is thinking of the other first in a crisis. And then that kiss! Just full of emotion and joy and desperate love and !!!!!
I've made mention of this before, but I think OUAT relationships are most successful when we're introduced in the middle of the story. You're brought into a relationship that has history, nuance, and it's own special tics (like I already believe that Alice has a habit of kissing and nuzzling Robin's hand).
This is part of the reason why I ship Millian so hard. All their interactions speak to a backstory of deep relationship, which made the meet cute so much more meaningful when we actually got to see it. It's why I never felt the Zades and Ruby Slippers TLKs, and why Swanfire never felt developed or rich to me — everything about the relationship - the meeting, development and conclusion of sorts - was presented in one episode, onscreen, and it felt like it had no depth of familiarity and history and love.
Anyway I love Wonder Arrow a lot, and I think joining the middle of their story is a big reason why I'm already really emotionally invested in them, and it makes me really anticipate seeing flashbacks to their beginning and the future of their story.
Do I love them? Absolutely!! Rose and Tiera had one scene last night and it was so beautiful! I can’t wait to see more of Alice and Robin both in the Enchanted Forest and in Hyperion Heights.
I’m doing some research about cool places to go to in London for my trip this summer and I encounter a chocolate-themed bar called Dark Sugars.
And all i can think about is how Alice and Robin would just have the best time there! It’s honestly so up their alley for a honeymoon or a first date spot in an AU.
My question for Rebecca Mader
As someone who was raised by a single mom, I think those types of relationships are so important and special. With Zelena, it only gets more interesting when the mother is someone like her who’s larger than life and going through her own redemption all the while. What do you think it was like for Zelena to raise Robin as she grew up?
Answer (thank you, Carrie):
