Featured Vendor JOHN LUNDY
Let's welcome John from "The Humble Hutch" ~ Where Shabby Chic Meets Fold Art!
Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right. –Henry Ford
John is an art teacher at an elementary school. He is married with a 4 year old, Ben, and a six year old, Summer. The Humble Hutch is a new business and so far, has been a joy to John and his family. John started selling ornaments and decorations in the front lobby of the school to raise money for a local charity. After some rules changed about doing that, John and his wife decided to go out on their own. Having been an artist all his life, John is consistently inspired by the simple nuance and aesthetics of natural materials and nature in general. John has found the power of social media to be amazing. His business has been blessed with great customers who also find joy in the small things. They reach out through social media and friendships are formed.
John is often inspired by simple compliments and the smiles on peoples faces as they see some of his work. John's art helps meet one of his personals goals, which is to make others happy. Each piece he creates is designed to carry ones thoughts beyond their current difficulties into a world of simple fun and make make-believe.
At this time, John has not made any big plans for The Humble Hutch. He would like the business to be successful and help make life just a little easier, but he doesn't want it to become a burden that could hinder the joy he receives from creating and sharing his whimsical folk art with others. Something you might not know is that John has a silent partner... a twin brother who is also an art teacher! John's brother helps a great deal by allowing him to bounce ideas off of him constantly.

Living and Crafting in the Mountains
“Running through the woods, and creeks of the Appalachian Mountains and sitting at a very young age, learning crafts from family and friends is how I grew up. Later, my husband’s career made it possible to meet and learn from jewelry makers and artisans as far north as New York and as far south as Panama, Central America. I thank God for being able to live my dream, of being in my mountains of Western North Carolina designing and hand making exciting pieces for you with beads, wire and nature.” Joy
Her Background
Joy grew up in the mountains of northern Georgia enabling her to see and learn from artisans and craftsman in the Appalachian Mountain area, home to the oldest mountain chain in North America. After marrying, she lived in Florida where her husband had a business in horticulture. He would bring Joy back to the mountains to get her “fix” each year because the mountains were in her blood. He promised that they could retire in the mountains and they have.
Joy came from a family of creative people; her father with music, her mother with crafts of all sorts of mediums. In addition to the myriad of resources she uses to make her jewelry, she has also worked with wood, fabric, metal and cord. Being very coordinated and anxious to learn, Joy was only 3 years old when her mother put a crochet hook in her hand and taught her a simple chain stitch. She would patiently correct and commend Joy on each stitch as she went on to learn one new stitch after another. Joy thanks God for her mother’s patience and guidance as it lead the way to her becoming the artisan she is today.
Her Work
Joy focuses on compositions from nature to design each element in her jewelry. What makes her work unique and distinctive is the fact she combines a variety of artistic techniques for every piece~ Wire Art, Bead Weaving, Silver Metal Clay and Simple to Complex Bead Stringing. No two pieces are alike! She enjoys using silver, gemstones, pearls and Swarovski crystals in her work. If she varies from these materials, it is only to improve the design for she knows God cannot be improved upon~ the way he created the petals of a flower, the bend of a branch, the swirl of a small snail’s shell.
Her Plans
As she moves forward in her work, she plans to continue to work with aspects of nature in each design. There are hundreds of colors, bends of a tree, shapes of landscape and creatures that have not been captured yet and her goal is to accomplish that. She realizes it will take her lifetime and more to reproduce the beauty found in God’s works of art! She would love to be blessed with a grandchild or other child to pass down her love for nature and her zest for expressing that love through various mediums.
