Bluebell was just catching prey when a car hit her, and her jaw is now broken from it… I imagine she’ll be staying with us for a little while.

Superspecies History: Rockclaw

Welcome once again to Monarch: After Dark, the digitial gateway between you and the organisation dedicated to understanding and navigating this troubled new world we live in.

We return once again to our Hollow Earth superspecies coverage with a rather interesting little critter that's been around quite a few places; the Rockclaw.

A species first casually passed over by Monarch during the initial Hollow Earth expedition, Rockclaws became a subject of decent interest after it was found that they are decently spread out through the world, from Hollow Earth to the Siren Isles, and potentially more locations on the surface.

One thing to note, our coverage of the Rockclaws for this entry will not be including the Mantleclaw, a closely-related superspecies known to have lived on Skull Island. While they are members of the same superspecies family, we will be saving coverage on the Mantleclaws for a future entry.

The Rockclaws, much like the Titan species Jinshin-Mushi, are vertebrates despite outwardly resembling invertebrate species. Their outer carapace strongly resembles rock, hence their name, and their pincers have a clamping force of 5,400 pounds per square inch. Juveniles, also known as "grubs", are even capable of generating small-level quakes to deter predators, giving them time to escape.

In 2024, the Monarch-Apex joint expedition followed Kong through an open rocky plain that was home to several Rockclaws. Disturbed by the Titan's wake, the Rockclaws began to scatter and find new resting spots. A particularly unlucky individual was snatched up by a native reptile that regularly preys on Rockclaws.

While no other particularly notable encounters have occured since, Rockclaws have been a regular presence throughout the mysterious Siren Isles, a location Monarch have only recently begun to dig deeper into.

And that's all she wrote on the Rockclaw! As stated previously, we will be examining the Mantleclaws of Skull Island separately in a future entry. The Rockclaws may not seem like much in the face of larger and more powerful superspecies, but they are still nothing to laugh at.

Fun fact, he was originally female but I really wanted to keep the name Bruno, so I just changed his gender in the code. Maybe he’s trans+bi or something!! It’s fun to think about. Although idk how trans kittypets with owners works… oh well! Who cares? TRANSGENDER BISEXUAL

The other cat (yellow tabby) with Moonstar (calico) is named Shattersun!
