Chapter 10: Damn your love damn your lies
“Hi.” He answered with a small, curt smile.
“What do you want?” You asked feigning dismissiveness. Out of sight out of mind only works when the person is OUT OF SIGHT.
“Steve left his jacket, I said I’d get it.” He answered.
Great so no elaborate romantic gesture you thought before mentally slapping the thought away. He’s married. Almost instinctively, your eyes glanced down at his hands in search for a wedding ring but he had different rings on, maybe one had been a wedding ring all along and you didn’t know.
“Come in.” You sighed, gesturing him in so he could get Steve’s jacket.
“Actually I also wanted to speak to you.” He admitted once he was inside.
“About your wife!” You exclaimed causing Loki to look away from you.
“You’re married are you not? What is it like then?” You argued.
“I’m not.” He insisted “well, not anymore.”
“So you were married.” You gasped.
You took a deep breath as your brain ran through all the information you were gathering. Loki was married but now perhaps broken up with the girl who you saw kiss him on the cheek last night and did lord knows what once you left. How was it that he would have even been able to keep a whole divorce hidden. It just didn’t make sense.
“How have you managed to keep a whole divorce hidden?” You questioned skeptically.
“Then how comes you were both so friendly last night and why didn’t you tell her who I was?” You asked, voice becoming quieter the closer you got to the end of your question, not actually knowing if you were more than just a groupie to Loki.
“Things aren’t finalised yet, I have to keep her happy until they are or her lawyer will take everything including some of the rights to the band. If a few smiles and hugs keeps her away from everything I’ve built then so be it.” He spoke sternly “I’ve already agreed on a six million dollar settlement with her as well as half the estate, I won’t let her get the band too.”
“Yes. And if she finds out or even suspects that I’m seeing somebody else, that would be the icing on the cake for her lawyer.” He continued “it would technically be adultery.”
“Yes.” You agreed, nodding your head, still trying to process all the new information. “But we haven’t had se—never mind.”
“I have to keep her happy if I want this to pass quickly. She’s got it in her head that we’re going to get back together.” He said with a small chuckle “there is nothing I would want less.”
You furrowed your brows as you looked at him.
“She wasn’t good for me.” He admitted “although, come to think of it, I don’t think we were good for each other.”
“Right person wrong time?”
“No. Wrong person, terrible time.” He laughed causing you to smile too. “But I was being truthful yesterday, I would like to get to know you.”
“Oh.” You said, clearing your throat as you looked down. So much for out of sight out of mind. How about in sight inside of me or in my house in my bed or I’m already undressed why don’t you hurry and join me your brain droned on.
“Sorry I’ll just grab Steve’s jacket and be on my way.” Loki interrupted your thoughts with an awkward smile.
“I think it’s in Nats room, I’ll quickly get it for you.” You offered before making your way into Natasha’s room, ditching the towel for one of her dressing gowns and getting Steve’s jacket that was hung on her door. “Here.” You said, handing it to Loki once you left it.
“Thank you.” He nodded curtly, taking the coat and turning around before quickly turning back towards you “actually, I would really like to take you out and I promise if you don’t want to see me ever again I’ll disappear.” He chuckled “at least as an apology for how things ended last night.”
“You mean your ridiculous lie.” You giggled.
“Fine. But you have to wait here so I can have a quick shower and get ready.”
“Alright, in the meantime I’ll take advantage of that stunning collection of books.” He answered, gesturing to the bookshelf in the corner of the room.
You showered quickly before changing into some casual clothes considering that Loki was wearing fitted black dress pants as well as a shirt which was a huge contrast to his usual leather and definitely the most clad you had ever seen him. Perhaps he had just come from a meeting or something you thought to yourself before remembering it isn’t all the time he’s on stage performing, maybe he just wanted to wear something different for a change. Once you were dressed, you walked back out into the front room where Loki was standing with his back to you as he continued to look through the books. He was strikingly tall, how sexy.
“Perfect.” He spoke, turning around to face you before his eyes ran over your form. “You—you look good.” He smiled. “Really good.”
“Thanks.” You simpered “off we go.”
You and Loki made your way out together before he led you towards an emerald green corvette. Opening the passenger side door, he welcomed you inside before making his way towards the drivers seat.
“How comes the paps didn’t follow you here?” You wondered aloud.
“I took out restraining orders against most of them, I’m sure they wouldn’t want to risk breaching them.” He answered, fastening his seatbelt around him.
“Nice car.” You commented, not knowing what to say as you did your own seatbelt.
“I’ve got a blue one in the garage at home, she’s called Tess.”
“Oh sorry Mr rockstar.” You laughed, not missing Lokis smug smile. Once he began driving off, he turned his music on before The chain by Feetwood Mac started to play. Instantly you remembered the first time you laid eyes on Loki in all his magnificent glory.
“Rumours is my favourite album of theirs.” He spoke, noticing your quiet singing.
“Same, it’s also strangely fitting to your life right now.”
“You really think so?” He grinned, glancing at you.
“Yeah. I mean you’re currently going through a messy breakup that you’re hiding from the press whilst driving with a different woman.” You snorted.
“So nothing like Fleetwood Mac then.” He laughed “so who does that make you then?”
“Why Nicks?” He ventured.
“Because I’m memorable.” You opined.
“Oh how could I ever forget you?” He spoke dramatically before belting the chorus, you joining in.
