His claim of innocence did nothing to soften Mona’s countenance, poised and ready to disappear in a splash of water at the slightest sign of him coming any closer. Not poised to attack. She knew her own strength was remarkable, but even she was not so arrogant as to believe herself able to handle his strength.
“I see you, Harbinger.” she still declared imperiously, tilting her chin up just slightly. Yet, she most certainly could not see everything, for the Fatui and their Harbingers were veil-protected mysteries that made it near impossible to untangle their pasts or predict their actions. She didn’t know why, and could only guess that they had some sort of protection from their Archon or that their Delusions masked their true forms from her.
She could only assume that is why it was so difficult to find the truth behind the meteors, why her hydromancy had shown her little and less. Yet, sometimes a lack of knowledge could be just as informative as knowing. It’s why she had made the accusation that he was to blame for them, even as he now denied it. Irritatingly, she could not tell if he was being truthful.
The only thing she had been certain of was his intention for the Traveler, when they first met. Read it in his heart if not in his future. And now, to see him again, she feared he would know her face and would continue to find her, seeking retribution for thwarting his plans or seeking knowledge that she had no intention of giving him. Narrowing her eyes, she slid another wary step back, glyph still rotating beneath her feet, ready to whisk her away, “Why have we met again?”
