with the rods (hehe) being filled with the god’s essence and death retaining injuries from their imprisonment makes me think that death can still feel bits of their essence into their scars. mostly because i imagine that that lover!sol’s scar he inflicted glows and burns, leaving a constant reminder of what sol had done to them

But back to the point: I agree! Each deity had to infuse their rod with part of their essence in order for the ritual to work, and part of that essence still lingers in Death's essence.
