🖊 Phaedra as perfected the art of staring down at people who are taller than she is. Which is everyone. Even her companions are taller than her. Sirin’s like what? 15 or 16? Yeah, even she has an inch or two on Phaedra. What’s that? You would like to talk to the fatebinder? Yeah, she’s the one hopping up and down behind Barik and Verse, trying to see wtf is going on. She is small and fluffy, the pomeranian of fatebinders if you will. Yet, she has a way of staring down her nose at people, even while straining to look up, that makes people feel small. This is something she picked up from her noble upbringing. She can flip on the “I’m rich and better than you” vibe whenever she wants.

“Realizing that just now.”

“Oh? You’re just getting that news in right now? An occasion to celebrate surely.” 

Pollux rolls his eyes, the utter indignity, the asinine nature of it, the utter idiotic way this had happened. Heroes aren’t supposed to fall for plots like these, but in recent months Pollux has been intently aware of exactly how heroes haven’t even lived up to his incredibly low standards; standards that don’t even exist anymore, Ricardo Ortega being the exact cause.

There had been countless times leading up to the complete and utter loss of any sense of expectation over the past few months, all ridiculous and incredulous, all caused by Ortega. This had been the fifth time in a month he had managed to take out the power in their Ranger’s headquarters. Not to say that Ortega couldn’t be a capable leader who had successfully directed many of their missions, but he was also a man who could make a joke as easily as breathing

Pollux can’t see in the dark, but he can hear the smile in Ortega’s voice and he knows exactly how his lips are curling upwards and how his eyes are sparkling exactly like his powers. He should be Sparkler, not Charge. Or maybe Asshole since Pollux hates the way he smiles since it makes his face turn all red.

His face burns even know and he curses under his breath.

“It’s not that bad. Not the worst thing I’ve done since meeting you.”

“Itemized or in alphabetical order?” Pollux grumbles, running his hands down his face. “I just want to know how you want the list of the worst things you’ve done since meeting me.”

“You have a list? I’m touched, Pollux.” He sounds like a puppy for crying out loud.

“You’ll have more than that if we don’t get the power back on before Steel comes grumbling around.”

Ariela:

85. What kind of personalities do they find attractive?

Well, she’s a particular fan of quiet but intelligent Aedyran Wizards, with a wit that often goes overlooked. But she finds a lot of different things attractive. 

She finds kindness very sexy, and is definitely attracted to people who try to do right by others. She loves someone with a sense of humour, though they don’t necessarily need to be the life of the party. She easily falls for people who are passionate, and brave, and who are trying their best in spite of everything else.

94. Outlook on life?

She definitely tries to be an optimist, both for her own sake and for the sake of those around her. She knows that its better for everyone’s mental health to at least try to hope for the best from the future.

But she’s been through a lot in her life, and has seen the worst in people, and she doesn’t forget that kind of thing. She might hope for the best, but she prepares for the worst.

95. What kind of things make them sad/depressed?

Thinking about her past; how her own sibling/s tried to have her murdered, and how she’ll probably never see her father again. Thinking about the overwhelming amount of injustice in the world, and knowing that she’ll never be able to set it all right. Knowing that she can’t help everyone.

Faenna:

85. What kind of personalities do they find attractive?

I’ve never really thought much about what Faenna finds attractive, because they’re definitely not at a point in their life where they’re ready for any kind of romantic relationship during either of the games. But I think they probably like people who are quiet and introspective, and don’t feel the need to fill a silence; people who appreciate hard work; and people who love nature and animals. They’re definitely not a fan of loud, obnoxious, reckless types.

94. Outlook on life?

They have a very pragmatic approach to life; they don’t hope for the best or expect the worst. Their life view is something that I tend to say a lot irl: “it’ll be what it is”. Things are going to happen, and they’ll do their best to survive it, whether its good or bad.

95. What kind of things make them sad/depressed?

Thinking about the friends that they lost back in the Living Lands, for sure, and of course, worrying that they’ll lose any new friends they make in the same way. The revelations about the true purpose of the Godlike.

7. Is there any emotion they find difficult to control (anger, sorrow, anxiety)?

Anger for Jane, but not in the running-hot, erupting-in-screaming, temper-losing way. She's remarkably calm and almost never raises her voice. No, her anger is the ice-cold kind that creeps along her bones and freezes her heart and can't thaw until the bastards have paid for what they did

For Ruby it's....all of them lmao or rather she's got a lot of conflicting emotions dragging her this way and that - is she angry at the Rangers for accepting her "death" and not coming to save her? are they her friends that she hates herself for fighting but her course can't be stopped? is it dangerous and terrifying to get close to them because They Will Know? are they comforting and familiar and a spark of brighter days? All Of The Above - but at the same time there's a withering numbness underneath it all, a dull grey zone of dead feelings (it's Depression Babey)

12. Do they have someone they trust during their own time of need, or do they prefer to handle it alone?

Jane's got a bunch of friends and loved ones now, but handling everything on your own is a hard habit to break. She has to teach herself to be able to rely on Ulysses once they start living together.

Ruby absolutely prefers to handle everything alone; Must Not Show Weakness To Others, Can't Let Them Know. Ortega, however, has other ideas, and knows her well enough to be able to tell when she's faking strength.

Ahhh, thank you! My response is a bit late, but managed to get it finished in time for Watcher Wednesday!

Was your Watcher glad to have Eder, Aloth and Pallegina back again (if indeed they did)? Was there any other companion that they would have liked to have back in their party?

Yessss. Having dear friends around meant a lot to Sinead, especially given this was her first time away from the Eastern Reach. She might have kept in contact with them to some degree after the Hollowborn crisis and White March adventures, but she still missed them. She was also glad she could do something to get Pallegina back from exile given how much the Republics mean to her (although she was concerned given it seemed a rather conditional pardon and the ducs and VTC honestly don’t deserve Pallegina but that’s a whole other post).

Plus, with the fragile state of her identity with that much of her soul torn from her, it was quite helpful to have some familiar faces to ground her (seriously, Sinead wasn’t exactly herself after her death and I was debating whether she even remembered Eder and then Eder made that comment about slapping her each day to try to wake her and it reminded her of all the jokes he made about dumping a bucket of water on her to wake her up when her Awakening was getting worse). There were a number of times she asked them about their travels together as she tried to piece together what remained of her memories. It admittedly did take her old friends some time to realize exactly how much she needed their help given how good she was at seeming put together even with her acknowledged memory loss…

(Additionally, she was a little more private about her Awakening early on, so it was good to have people around who knew about her past life, particularly when something related to it came up.)

She would have loved to have Kana back in the party. She misses her chanter buddy so much. Plus I feel like those two scholar nerds would have had some very interesting conversations.  

Which faction did your Watcher side with in the end, if any? Was there a particular reasoning behind their decision?

Sinead was very pro-Huana and supported them reclaiming their heritage and resisting colonialism (while still getting high reputation with the other factions cause diplomacy), but she drew the line at Onekaza’s demands for alliance. It was a cunning plan on Onekaza’s part… except for asking a bleeding heart and honest reputation extraordinaire of all people to commit mass murder and then lie about it in court. Especially cause at that point Sinead was tired of kith and gods expecting her to be a weapon, and cares too much about all the people of the Deadfire that call it home to kill some for a supposed greater good.

So she sailed off to Ukaizo with just her crew and allies, and between her ship upgrades, Tekehu’s watershaping, and my headcanon that Sinead and Tekehu trained all of the crew of The Truth’s Vestige in some degree of weather chanting, they could reasonably get through Ondra’s Mortar without faction help.

But alas the Deadfire is apparently in chaos and shambles cause the game offered no collaboration route. I do like to think Sinead found and inspired others who were willing to work together, even if they lacked the power of the major faction leaders, and they’re currently studying Ukaizo to repair the Wheel and helping people in the Deadfire as the factions war.

i think ruka would like to ask someone rather than be asked. bc when he's asking he's in control of the situation, and he's planned for it so if they refuse he can just laugh it off and back out of the situation gracefully however if he's the one being asked you could catch him off guard, he'd turn into a blushing mess and start babbling bc ?? someone? wants him ???

💯 what is my muse's ideal date?

ruka is a man who goes out of his way to plan dates, he'd try his best to make it the most romantic thing possible, he gets really into it and tbh it rubs off on him. he likes the whole storybook romance, the "cliches" like dinner by candlelight and big proclamations of love, but he's also not against simpler ideas like taking a small boat out in a lake and just relaxing for an afternoon (or evening) and just being in your presence

🍓 Has basically zero concept of how old people from the younger races are, and has probably unintentionally offended some of her companions at least once by exclaiming “omg you’re practically a baby!” after they’ve told her their age

🍓 Tends to carry a lot of coin on her at all times, and gives it out to anyone that she meets throughout the day who she thinks might need it

Mia:

🍓 Always introduces herself as a performer before mentioning that she is a Watcher. Because priorities. Jokes that she is the only Singer and Actress in Eora who can perform for spirits.

🍓 Considers herself a follower of Hylea, though not the most devout. When she prays, it’s typically through song.

1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?

Pollux was definitely drawn to Ortega by his humanity. There were a lot of things about the world that Pollux was really intrigued by and did stupid things to test them, but people were by far the most interesting to him. For a long while there were moments where Ortega would do things and Pollux would just sit there utterly baffled, like.....why do you do the things you do??? He would understand on a practical level, but there was still that gap instituted in him that he couldn’t feel or do those things too. But then Pollux figured out that he could do those things, that he was free and that he was away from the Farm. He could feel like that and having Ortega around was just keeping up with how much ‘’’’emotional’’’’’ human stuff can we do together? Essentially sticking two idiots together and hoping that the world doesn’t burn down, but knowing it will.

Ortega was drawn to Pollux’s quiet sort of almost port in the storm feel, or the eye of the storm. He's different in all sorts of different ways and he was def one of those people who would give Ortega shit back, even if he was the Marshal and he was in charge. Pollux respected him, but at the same time didn’t give a flying fuck. He would joke and poke his buttons and be a bit too mean at times, but it was nice how he didn’t put him on a pedestal--didn’t treat him like a hero. He treated him like a friend and someone to be goofy with, to have fun with. It’s sticking two people who come up with terrible ideas and knowing the absolute best and worst is going to happen.

7. Favorite date activity?

Maybe one day they’d go to a fancy restaurant and Pollux would let himself be seen like that with Ortega, but that is a one day in the future thing. Outside of that possibility, back in the sidestep days they would go to arcades and pollux would kick ass at pinball and skee ball. They got banned one time because Pollux managed to climb up onto the top of the machine and keep everyone distracted enough with his abilities to just toss balls into the high score section.

When he comes back after Heartbreak, they do simple things. They cook and bake together, even if Ortega doesn't trust Pollux to cook. They make dinner a lot, they dance a lot. Watch TV or listen to jazz music again. It’s nothing big and maybe it’s them getting old, but they like the quietness of being around each other like that.

13. How do they react at being away from each other?

Pollux acts more or less the same way, generally keeping himself on a tight emotional leash a lot + he doesn’t talk to too many people outside of what could be considered their shared friend group ie. The rangers. But just because he thinks that doesn't mean he doesn’t have his little quirks that will pop up. He’ll be a bit grumpier, less comfortable, more antsy and on the edge. He will snip at others like he’s expecting the same sort of banter/arguing that he will do with Ortega and he doesn’t get that. There are also moments where he’ll look....much less like he fills the space he exists in. Almost less like a person, or he has less to remind him what being a person is. He notices that most of all because he is aware of how he isn’t a person. Everyone else just thinks he looks sort of lost.

For Ortega, it depends on how long Pollux has been gone, but he is notorious for not answering anything having to do with his phone from texts to phone calls. The longer he's been silent, it def turns Ortega’s anxiety up, especially since he knows that Pollux has enemies. He doesn’t know who they are, but it’s certainly anxiety inducing being told that and then he will disappear for a good week. Ortega will anxiously check his phone a lot and generally be more stressed with everything going on around him and express his anxiety more when Pollux isn’t around.
